Incident on London Bridge

So do you reckon the police wouldn't have shot them dead if they didn't wear those jackets?

Maybe.
But as I said previously, I don't think they wanted to risk getting arrested either. Police will shoot on sight if they're strapped up. How else can they ensure they'll die if they don't wear the jackets?

The previous Westminster attacker was killed by the police and he wasn't wearing anything like they had on. They can ensure their deaths by not cooperating with the police, what probably happened is they were cornered and ran at the police with knifes and were shot immediately.

One question which may sound stupid, whats the difference with regular police and armed police. Regular police officers are not armed, just teasers or?
Given the speed of the response, plus the photos of the regiment fast response helicopter plus articles stating members of the regiment would be stationed in London full time after the Westminster attack I'm pretty sure they were sas, which means more advanced weaponry, plus being the best soldiers in the world with the aim of neutralising the threat as quickly as possible, and thank feck for it.

Jesus, just heard about it, cannot find any proper substance though, what was it? A run-over from a van, heard about some shooting and stabbing too though, it's true?

Rip to those killed by these cowards

Kudos to the police for such a rapid response
I was in central London yesterday and left my mates house at around 10.20. The amount of police flooding south at that time was ridiculous. I was hoping it was just because of a busy Saturday night but in the back of my mind I knew it was because of something hideous like this. Brilliant response from the police.

So, sister, her husband and kids all safe and well. Sorry for the lack of updates but I would like to say thanks to everyone's messages (bit overwhelming). Hugs.

Another terrorist attack in london?:(

feck you bastards jihadi's. And i am not sorry for the swear words here.
Do we know it was jihadis? Following on BBC and the most specific they've said is "Asian" - this could mean Chinese, Japanese, etc.

Seeing as everybody who says anything un PC has been thread or totally banned or is being called and idiot, ignorant or villified in this thread, I guess the 'Terrorism has nothing to do with islam' PC crew can have the thread to yourselves and and blame it on everything else yeah?

Someone on FB this morning still posting photos of Muslim doctors and some taxi driver that gave someone a lift home - kinda missing the point. I don't think anyone has a problem with those people.

Fantastic news mate, so pleased and relieved for you

Indeed. Far too much reason and nuance in this thread.
Yep, apologies for that dumb comment. Actually just found out that I know one of the people stabbed, which is pretty damn shocking -he's a fellow business journo (and a red)- hang in there Geoff.

If you read it properly you should see that the religious element was being assumed, recognized & debated all through the piece. The bits that got rejected for being daft was folk basically saying ALL Muslims are this & ALL Muslims are the other.

If people can't understand that last point then y'know... what would you call them? Insightful with their analysis, stuff like that?

Also, history comprehensively suggests that it is a really bad idea to be starting to travel down a path like that.

What's the word on what's happening in Barking?

Very relieved and glad to hear it mate. Thanks for letting us know

Devastated by this. I really hope that there's as few fatalities as there possibly can be and that every suspect is caught as soon as possible so that the people of London can rest easy. I really feel sorry for people in London at the moment, it must be such a horrible feeling.

And I ask this question with a bit of hesitancy because I'm not trying to spread fear or anything, but to the people on here who live and work around central London; do you think you'll find it difficult to live normally for the foreseeable future? I'm just thinking if this happened in Dublin which I pass through daily, I don't think I'd be at all comfortable with walking through the city centre on a daily basis. Are people in London expected to go to work tomorrow? Are you okay with it? I guess the last thing you can do is let yourself become too afraid to live on normally but it just seems increasingly difficult.
I don't see how this could or should change my life. London's such a big place, it would be the worst possible response if you chose to respond to this by hiding away and living in fear.

I know right, no one really thinks that so why post it? It's actually probably quite patronising to most Muslims who obviously don't agree with the attacks.

Biggest annoyance for me is ppl I know who live nowhere near London/weren't in London marking themselves safe and posting things about 'I was there only yesterday...' No Terrorist attack is an 'I was there' moment, it is a deplorable act carried out by twisted ppl.

I think it's well meant, but it's not just patronising to muslims tbh.

No worries. It had to be said :)

Hope your mate is ok. Do you know the extent of his injuries yet?

I dont think it is missing the point. Sadly a lot of people need reminding that most muslims are just normal people.

It does seem that some will do absolutely everything in their power to remain as PC as possible, following the liberal handbook to a tee.

But on the other hand we do see some very ignorant and OTT posts from the other end of the scale

The only people called ignorant and dumb were the people being ignorant and dumb.

If you want to have a rational discussion on that subject go join in the other thread rather than making what you think are clever sarcastic remarks.

Is this really the biggest annoyance?

It's pretty harmless and in incidents like this it's perfectly natural to get a little caught up in it all just by watching the news and following social media. Especially if you were in the area not long before, which is almost certainly something you can't help but feel surreal about

Say whats on your mind and i will give an unbiased oppinion on whether you are an idiot.

I actually made a similar comment in the thread after the Manchester incident, although it was more comments like "I was there 2 years ago" that I found annoying as it seemed like a bizarre attempt to attach themselves to things.

That said, it did feel weird following this when I was in London exactly 2 weeks ago, stayed in a hotel about a hundred yards from Borough Market, went the market, used that tube station, walked those streets in the evening etc etc.

Thanks guys. He was more of an acquaintance than a mate, but financial journalism is a close knit field and I've chatted to him at events going back over a decade.
All I can find online is that he was stabbed and is in intensive care. One of our directors is a close mate of his- will email him now.

It kind of sounds lame, but it defo makes an incident resonate more strongly with you. I've been to Reina, the club in Istanbul that got shot up, and you remember having a laugh with mates there and can picture others doing the same on that night. Rightly or wrongly, it makes it horridly more real than say an attack in Baghdad, which is harder to empathise with. Same outcome though, obviously.

Yea pretty much.

Thankful that the number of fatalities are not higher. Police did a great job in taken them down in less than 10 minutes.

Feared yesterday that the number of dead would be much higher when we were told there were 3 suspects involved.

You may not be aware of this but some people are literally saying feck muslims in response to the attacks. I don't want to vilify people for emotional/irrational responses at such a time but it's worth pointing out that some do think this and there is evidence not a million miles from here.
