The landscape in Scotland has changed. My generation have no real reason to hold bitterness over policies brought in from the 80s etc, 10-15 years before we were even born. There is also a lot of well off areas. The oil in Aberdeen has resulted in a lot of rich suburbs in the countryside, which are set to all vote Tory.
I think he means gains from labour.

If a small percentage of Lib Dem voters in Putney had voted for Labour, they would have won the seat. The votes getting split lost Lab the seat.
Conservatives didn't take it from Labour. Labour took it from Conservatives.
