There's not even a remote reason as to why Griezmann would sign a new contract if he were set on leaving after the window. It's off.
With the release clause remaining the same(according to reports anyway), I think it's just Atletico's way of thanking him for staying through their ban. He gets increased salary too. Win-win for him.

Another reason is - we don't know whats in the contract. If he was dead set on joining United before all this transfer rubbish, he might have a clause that lets United have him for a little lower than his release clause. Who knows.
