Erm Chelsea won the league last year and spurs have a very good sqaud , we need to improve our team a lot so that's one reason why they haven't improved there teams yet, Chelsea and arsenal are both active making bids and will improve there teams so I dont see your point

Both lack depth to their squad particularly Spurs. Remember Chelsea had no European competition whatsoever.

Got to admit I want us to get the main bulk of our transfer business done already. Then if something special becomes available great but not essential.

Am I the only one who is calm about our transfer business? Most players would be returning from their holidays right about now for preseason and I expect deals to pick up in coming weeks. Most of our rivals have been quiet too, lots and lots of rumors but nothing official from them as well.

We need to be patient, Woodward has delivered the goods in the window year after year. This summer should be no different although I suspect most of the moaning is in regards to players we are being linked rather than lack of activity. If we were being linked with Aubameyang and Verratti, then folks would be a lot chirpier on here.

And we will also improve our team. So what's your point? Also, how do you know that we aren't making active bids?

This is the worst summer I can recall for transfer hysteria.

Well said.

Its like the opposite of the scouser boom bust cycle. Every summer fans call him crap and call for Gill to come back and then he signs some big players and he's King Ed.

Having a post mortem for the transfer activity when there's 2 months left to go is ridiculous. We don't even know what are targets are and are putting too much faith in the gossip sites.

The legend of David Gill lives on and on. This guy broke the multiple transfer records for which everyone was craving for.

Was suspicious of him because of the first transfer window, until I realised that Moyes probably drove him insane. But all he does from then is bringing money into the club and spending big in the market. It isn't his fault that the results aren't according to the money we spend. Sacked Moyes with no mercy (mainly his decision according to reports), sacked LVG in time to bring the best available man. Don't know what people expect from him.

I'm calm as well and expect things to picks up pretty soon. With the exception of the car crash Moyes summer Woodward has mostly delivered.
Oh and on the behalf of the Caf I just told him what to do in case he needs help :D

My point was since Ed has been in charge, he has bankrolled us far more than the other clubs, so I don't get this negativity. Every summer fans get on his back till they jack him off when he pulls out a big one (signing I mean). The season starts in 6 weeks. Transfer windows are long and arduous. Ed has pulled it off before so I see no reason to doubt him. The fact he is stalling on signing Perisic for 55mill suggests he has some sense, especially if Sanchez is rumoured at a similar price.

Get you, Mr. Pedantic. Little else to contribute with any semblance of intelligence so let's refer back to Fellaini who was signed four years ago. Cracking post, lad.

If you're looking for more gems of his I suggest you visit the Morata thread.

Thankful Woody has seemingly kept us away from situations like this.

The hysteria is even harder to understand when you consider we have already bought (two whole weeks ago!) one of the most expensive central defenders in our history in Lindelof. Centre half is a position many people feel we needed quality cover and competition. We've gone out and done that with minimal fuss.

It's a sign of how spoilt some of you lot are when you can't even appreciate a £30 million central defender.

Except Mourinho gave Woodward the lists about 3 months ago. To me, it seems unacceptable that Woody has had that long to do these deals and seems to be doing nothing.

Yes they've signed Lindelof, but what are United to do? Pat themselves on the back for a job well done? This team finished 6th. The squad needs strengthening a lot more than Lindelof. It's all nice having the "oh we signed him, be happy" attitude. But United need to be ruthless this window because we're miles away and that gap between us and the top isnt getting bridged.

Maybe Woody will pull it out the bag just before the tour, like with Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger. And if he does, I'll admit I was wrong. But I can't see it.

You don't know what Woodward is or isn't doing. Instead you're chatting baseless shite on here, which is particularly impressive given you don't have a clue what you're wittering on about.

Woodward "seems to be doing nothing" because you don't know what he's doing.

Every chief executive in the land has been given targets from their respective managers. If it was so easy, so simple, so minute, then every single football club would have signed all of the players they want.

It's not even July. We're going to buy more players, they're going to be good players, and Mourinho has absolutely everything he needs (with staggering talent already at his disposal) to crack on and do a good job for us. Honestly man, grow up.

"It's not even July"

My Lord. I'm not even gonna get into that.

Telling me to grow up is rich, too.

What is this supposed to mean ?
Clutching at straws, being childish... Take your pick
Next post will be in De Gea thread saying DDG was shite in first 2 matches with Utd and hence he must be sold..

I love Woody.

I Am not worried at all about us not securing our targets by now.

I am worried that our targets are completely underwhelming.

A large part of that is out of the clubs control. There aren't an abundance of world class attackers out there that are attainable.

I'll say it for the millionth time. This situation we are in is due to the failure of the club to invest properly in the years between selling Ronaldo and Fergie retiring.

It's barely July, is that better?

I'm not sure what is rich about that remark. I'm the one being rational, not you.
I was just discussing football. You're the one who's making it personal, telling me I know nothing and to grow up etc. We're complete faceless strangers. No need at all to get irked by me.

what a load of complete garbage from some of you in here.

It is not Ed's fault signings fail that's on the manager and the player once that player is in the utd red he belongs to the manager.
just cos they failed does not mean ed is bad at his job.

Falcao
Di Maria
Martial
Shaw
sniderman
Depay
Ibra
Pogba
Baily
Lindolf
Herrera

in that small list i see 2 world class strikers a world class center mid and a very good winger any one of those 4 when we got them would have got into any club on the planet with no fecking Champ League it is not his fault they were either lazy or broken! but not one person here said na dont want them.

It is not his job to make them live up to the price he just gets them in the door if they turn into girls or there bodys were broke thats nobody's fault other than Player/Manager/Bad luck.

You only need look at the reaction of us fans to each transfer when they just happened to realise how ridiculous it is to blame Woodward for our transfer record.

This.

Out of 10, id give him a 7 for how he has performed so far, and 6 of those points are for our healthy commercial state.

Yes the manager will decides who we sign, but I wouldn't say Woodward has made many great deals.

Pogba we paid through the a*** for, and he wanted to come back anyway. Fellaini we paid £4m more than his buyout clause because we missed out on everyone else. Martial has so many potential clauses in his contract we could end up paying up to £70m, for a player who was fairly unknown when he bought him. The rest I'd say were about right, but non have been a "great bit of business"

you guys need to chill and you also have absurdly short memories. Ed has provided managers with the biggest outlays in our history and you lot are complaining? He signed us Di Maria and Falcao with no champs league. Also Pogba, Miki and Zlatan too. he has convinced the glazers to loosen the purse-strings every season despite our terrible seasons year on year. I don't know what you are expecting. He broke the British transfer record twice already (a world one also), both times when we were out of the champions league. Are Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs or Chelsea's men (DOF/CEO's) doing this? very ungrateful indeed.

Instead of labelling me ungrateful I suggest you read my post again. I wasn't saying Woody was incapable of signing players. I said that if it gets to this time next week no further on and going on tour with the current set of players then I'll be concerned. I don't think there is anything wrong in wanting our potential new players to get a Summer in with their new team mates before the season starts. Jose gave Woody his list in April and said he wanted all of his deals done by the tour. We are far from that point and our squad needs major work. So while I'm more relaxed than alot on here, if you can't see why some may be concerned then you would have to have your heads in the clouds slightly. Some people are over reacting mind.

If we had bought pogba this window we would be chuffed by that fee.

Fellaini was a panic buy by Moyes. Woodward got him.

Martials clauses relate to him becoming an enormous sucess here so would be well worth the fee if it materialises.

Dont get peoples problem with Ed

With all the finishing problems last season, I am looking forward to seeing Mourinho having to put up with playing pre-season with no recognizable striker.

Silly season and no football makes people get very bored. So they go all Sun/Dailymail on Woodward now. Create blame out of nothing and use hindsight to blame him for how players turned up.

You can't say IF we bought Pogba this summer, we would be happy. The fact is, we bought him last season, the market was different and the player wanted to come back. The Juve hierarchy are still laughing to this day at how much they received.

The Fellaini deal was only a panic buy because Woodward failed to secure all other deals. If he did his job properly, we wouldn't be stuck with that tree trunk in our midfield now.

Martials classes include, £8.5 for his first 25 goals and £8.5m for 25 International caps. That brings it up to almost £55m. Paying that much for someone who achieves those two things, isn't well worth it. Giroud could get you those kind of numbers.

I love Mourinho but I would also prefer that he didn't make that comment about giving all out to Woody. I mean, it can't help him in any way.

.

Why do people keep saying things like this?
It'd be like having a wing man mate, and blaming him for you not pulling a model, when you're not that big a catch.

No man in the world was talking Ronaldo, Bale etc into signing for us with Moyes as manager, with Madrid a much much better option.

Both Ed and Jose know how important this window is. This season can really reestablish United among the elites on the field and there's no way Ed is sitting on his as$ not pursing the players Jose wants. The fact that no one really knows what we're up to is exciting, no one we've been linked to - outside of Morata - really excite me. So hopefully we have something big in the works.
