Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

Almost time for the 10-10:30pm Twitter transfer storm. Popcorn ready. Who's the topic of the day today? I'm going for Bakayoko. Daily Mail reporting United have had a bid accepted.

Is it me or does it feel like Atletico are spending money earned from a potential Griezmann sale..

Fair enough, I suppose that's possible. We'd need to be able to change formations against bigger teams in that case. I guess I find it hard to believe Jose would be playing a system where his wingers don't really defend. Despite you saying we used that system this season I don't really think we did. Rashford, Martial, and Mkhitaryan cut in a lot but ultimately they were still wingers when they played in a 4-3-3 system and did still have the task of tracking back. I couldn't see Griezmann tracking back in the same way tbh.

Defending wise any player in Jose's system will track back anyway, but while we're on the offense the right winger was always drifting inside as another playmaker while the left winger was the one hanging the flank a lot. Martial didn't succeed in hanging the flank a lot, though and that's the reason, I believe, that makes Jose play Rashford a lot on the left wing as he was hanging the flank and providing width even if he's not the best in it. That of course while we were playing good football, but at the last 2 months of the season these things disappeared.

What I want to say is the instructions given to the players while we're on defense isn't a sure thing to be applied when we're on the offense. The wingers will back track when the opposite team is attacking but that doesn't mean while we're attacking it doesn't mean those wingers will keep sticking to the flank as well, they can drift inside and that what was happening a lot with Mata, Mikhi and Lingard.

I don't want to drive this thread away from the tweets but I would like you to see this video. We may complete the discussion in another thread in order not to disturb anyone here.

The eternal optimist in me wonders if we simply put the Griezman transfer on hold around about the time things started progressing with Lukaku.

No. Why are people wanting to get rid of Martial, our most talented player? Ever since Jose started marginalising him, people just seem to have taken that on board instead of remembering how talented the guy is.
We shouldn't allow him to go anywhere.

He's not even close to our most talented player, Pogba and De Gea are more talented. Also he was marginalised because he was fecking piss. Rashford was working harder both off the pitch and on it, which is why he was preferred. Everyone's crying about Martial's treatment, ask yourself, if he was half as talented as some on here would make you believe, that position would be his, no questions asked.

He's had one good season ffs, was good but hardly a superstar at Monaco, came to United and was played with the ball into his feet constantly, being the main man. Not every manager he's going to play with throughout the course of his career is going to play boring possession football, he needs to adapt. Jose Mourinho is the most successful manager remaining of our era, he's a winner, it's not his job to adapt to Martial who has achieved feck all. No manager can implement a system to get the best out of every single player in the squad, especially when he didn't even sign the majority of them, that's wishful thinking.

Either he does what the manager expects of him, or he continues to be marginalised for players who will. People forget Martial was given plenty of chances last season, he was basically undroppable at the start of the season, despite continuing to disappoint. Jose came in with different tactics, attacking the space, breaking with pace etc. and Martial's looked terrible. SAF didn't play posession based football either, would you lot have complained if SAF expected him to adapt as well? In fact SAF was no stranger to making his wingers track back either. I remember so many people on here would argue that Nani's unwillingness to track back was one of his worst traits. (Which was a myth btw, he would track back) Rashford struggled throughout the season but worked his ass off and began to understand, he basically carried us to a Europa League with his individual brilliance. For all this talent Martial seems to possess, quite funny a youth product is showing him up.

I'm a big fan of Martial, but if he fails here it's not Jose's fault, it's his and his alone. Especially if he's as talented as everyone on here is saying. All manager's have favourites. SAF dropping Nani from the RW when he was having the season of his life to accomodate Valencia, Guardiola dropping one of the best EPL strikers of the past decade, the list goes on. Its down to those players to adapt to what the manager expects, to improve. If they can't, that's a shame, but no player except Messi is irreplaceable. Martial isn't even the best upcoming French talent, in fact he's not even the best French talent in the Manchester United squad.

Martial is going to work under a lot of different managers in his career, especially with the rate that they get sacked at these days, he's not always going to play in systems with pretty passes and balls into his feet for 90 minutes, he needs to add more to his game, it's that simple. Is it Jose's fault for not teaching him in training? Who knows, that's a completely different argument, we don't see them in training. I find it very hard to believe he doesn't though, looking at Rashford's improvement towards the end of the season.

Footballers are made through a combination of hard work, overcoming adversity and talent. If fecking Ronaldo wasn't talented enough not to work his ass off and adapt, neither is Martial.

Costa to Juve done deal for 46m.

Edit: Forget to say, loan for 6m then obligation buy for 40.

I wonder which agent he could possibly be on about? We may as well just look at a list of Raiola clients instead of reading the papers
