16 is the new peak for players obviously. Anyone 28 years of age that was considered the peak of their powers are now considered old and need to apply for a bus pass.
Is this Naby Keita going to be a superstar or something? Why so many reports, why the ridiculous price, and why are Liverpool seemingly so obsessed? And if he is so good, surely other big clubs would be after him.

Myself, when I play the game, it's only really worth buying the real young players or regens as it's more fun. Signing anybody age 26+ just seems pointless on the game

He's got a fixed clause of around £48m (I think) next summer. Liverpool trying to buy him now for more as they know there'll be more competition next summer.
We offered the same , now they are desperate to offload.
That's actually not a bad price at all. He's obviously yet to prove he's worth it but we paid close to that for Anderson, and Jose rates Sanches. He can't be any worse than what we've already got in the middle of the park.

He's very good, yes. The reason big clubs aren't willing to cough up huge money this season is that he could very well turn out to be a one season wonder. Pool know that his release clause kicks in next year and if he has anything close to the season he just had they'll be cast aside as bigger clubs want him.
When you take away Pogba and Herrera, we haven't got much depth. Carrick can't play once a week apparently so we need depth.
Is he saying this lad is better than Herrera and Pogba?

If you say so. I wouldn't argue that Pogba and Herrera are but Fellani? Carrick can't play every game, he'll be lucky if he gets 25+ games this season. Fellani makes too many mistakes to be relied upon regularly. I'm not saying Sanches is the answer to all our prayers but he's having a bad time in Bravaria, there's a chance he could do better for us. We saw what he was capable of in the Euro's last summer.
Well Bayern already signed Tolisso who's imo far superior for less this summer, so it would be in comparison a bad deal.

Okay, guess that's the end of the line for Sanches then. If Jose feels Pereira is ready for first team football, I'd much rather he was given a chance instead.
I like Pereira, so think he will get plenty of chances. Not sure exactly what position though. Ideally you would like him to be capable of doing Carrick's job. It could save us a fortune.
Why cant Conte just swallow his pride and keep Costa one more season?
He looks decent but I must admit that I've only ever seen him in games that there was little to no pressure. Get a feeling he'd get bullied out a game against the bottom teams in the league. Hope I'm wrong, he's great with the ball at his feet but I'm guessing his natural position is one of the forward midfield roles and not sitting deep.
That would be the biggest climb down in the history of football. He'd end up having a Mourinhoesque season if he did that.
Think there has been too much going on for that one, especially as it seems Costa has been trying to get away for some time before this kicked off.
Chelsea could just keep the brilliant striker they already have instead of just constantly signing new players for the sake of it.
Costa instigated it around December/January time, I believe. Acting the cnut and pushing for a China move or a move back to Spain. Conte is actually in the right, I feel.

Ok yes but tbh Id play Fellani and Pereira before him I don't rate him. I agree we need to sign a CM I'd just rather someone else.
As others have said, the concern seems to be that this has 'Bayern next summer for the release clause' written all over it unless Liverpool/whoever can intervene in the next few weeks.
We saw what Januzaj was capable of too, he's very very raw. He should have stayed in Portugal for at least 2-3 years. Or followed the same path someone like Tielemans is doing, go to a "smaller" club first.
A player can ask to leave that is football. Costa still played his part and was a professional on the pitch.
Conte made an error because if he wanted to be a dick, he could have waited to sign a replacement before sending him that text which was utterly stupid.

You all miss the pretext of Costa wanting to leave Chelsea for Athletico for a while, also during the China saga, it was suggested he didn't actually want to go to China and it was Athletico he wanted to go but Chelsea wanted to flog him to China for the transfer fee.

If it was as clear-cut as simply wanting a move away, I highly doubt the club and Conte would have gotten so public with it. To me, it seems more likely Costa is a bit of a cnut and has acted up behind the scenes. Maybe Chelsea fans more privy to the outings have more of a clue?
Wasn't the rumour Conte told him to feck off to China after a bust up (the Xmas issue), and Conte has now texted him no longer in my plans. I would say both have been at least as bad as each other. I am not saying Costa isn't a cnut, what I am saying is Conte is not without blame in this situation. Also Chelsea have known for at least 2 years Costa wanted to leave for Athletico
Have to agree. Conte really messed this up with his ego. Which seems really weird now that Lukaku has come out and said he's been United bound for months and didn't really consider Chelsea, so the argument that Conte was confident to land Lukaku doesn't seem to hold water, unless Lukaku is just saying that now that he's signed up. The manager is expected to have more maturity in these situations. I know it's not exactly the same, but look how well Mourinho phased out Rooney from the starting XI to a bit squad role and then enventually out of the club; all with minimal fuss and maximum saving of face for Rooney. That's a prime example of top class man management.
Goal scorers are the hardest position to field and you don't chase away a player like Costa, 52 goals in 89 apps., just because he's a cnut. Not without a plan anyway, which clearly they didn't have. Missing out on Lukaku and Morata up to this point, in a lack of top class striker market this window.
Certainly there is a portion of the fanbase that feel this way and to avoid going OT, I have addressed this before
He signed for Bayern for €35m + add-ons, it's hardly a massive profit they'd be making on him. In the current market you'v got players like Drinkwater being touted around for £50m, when you consider it, it's not actually 'that bad'.
Nah its pretty bad. He's not done anything to demand a fee nearly that high. Bayern were foolish last year on the back of the Euros where Portugal won. He didn't even stand out for them. It's telling they're trying to cut their losses after one year, it's hilarious that they'll make out with a profit.
