The very same manager gave Lingard a 4 year contract who is supposedly interested in Perisic. They're also very different players.
It really really isn't. Plenty of managers have been known to obsess about average players for whatever reason. Were you as open minded as that when Moyes wanted to bring Fellaini like that ?
I am with you here. If we're to pick between DM & winger, then winger should be the priority. To advance to the next step we need to turn those draws to wins. For some unconvential tactic, Lindelof has the quality to step up into midfield to negate the need for DM while our left back like Blind or Darmian can sit back, & stay narrow.
Of course I am not saying Perisic is a must at all cost.
Yes actually. The difference is, I didn't trust Moyes who had never won anything in his career anywhere near as much as I trust Mourinho, one of the best and most successful managers around. Still never wanted Fellaini but Moyes did work with him and the transfer kinda made sense although it was way too expensive. It hasn't turned out great but it's hardly one of the worst transfers ever. I don't really believe top managers obsessing over average players "for no reason". IMO it's more of a case of them wanting a player with specific qualities, who otherwise isn't really world class, and sometimes it just doesn't work out.
I have watched Perisic more than most people here although the money is crazy I can see why we would be interested. I guess I have faith more thought has gone into scouting him than "I've watched this player a few times and he's OK" or "I've watched him and he's rubbish".
Your post makes sense and I hope you're right if he does come here. I know I've watched enough to think that he won't improve us much. No one knows for sure.

Looks likely that we are going to leave this in the cold atleast for some time till Inter lower their demands.

Di Marzio is Italian. Perisic plays in Italy (and is Croatian, not Serbian).

I did think about saying "a club in the north east" as well, but thought 3 whoppers might make me a bit too transparent.
I think everyone accepts he will be here for a few years but theres nothing wrong with hoping it's only in a support role ass opposed to basically a regular in the side last year. Lingard has the ability to be a decent impact player off the bench or for certain games. But if he's a mainstay in the team again this season we are in trouble.
What if Mourinho wanted Crouch and we were quoted £60mill for him, maybe we should throw in Rashford as a part of it since it's a player that the manager obviously wants.

I can understand why Inter are asking for such a high fee tbh. He was one of their best players in the last two seasons. The deal wouldn't make sense for them if they weren't able to get adequate replacement for a comparable price. The way the market is at the moment, there's no value for money.

£40-50 million isn't sounding like such a bad price after seeing the Coutinho £100 million fee and Mbappe and Neymar €200 million valuations.

If jose accepted that he wants only 3 signings then we should pay that extra amount we were going to spend on 4th signing and pay inter the money they want without giving them martial (considering jose is so desperate for perisic).

That's a ridiculously exaggerated point. Obviously that would never happen because it's stupid. Wanting Perisic makes sense because he'll improve our team.
The very people asking clubs to pay crazy money for new toys will be the first to complain about Season ticket price hikes.

The point is that quite a few have feck all knowledge about Perisic, but feels that it's extremely important that we spend whatever is needed to get him, because Mourinho wants to sign him and that makes him a crucial signing. So no, i don't think it's an exaggerated point, people in here didn't say a word about Perisic a year ago and now he's a critical player we just have to sign for £50mill, even if it takes sending Martial on loan to Inter.
Admittedly I havent read every post in this thread but I have yet to see a single person advocate that.
But it's been mentioned a few times.
For 40 mil pounds there are at least 20-30 players that are better and would fit that bill. To buy a squad back-up for 40m is madness, never mind that the actual price is likely to be even higher.
And buying a washed-up player, who's at 28 ever impressed and his 'best' season came in a team that changed managers what like 5-6 times in the last year and a half. That tells you everything you need to know about Inter. They've been in worse crisis than MU under Moyes and that is some achievement.
We also have Lingard, who is a more of natural sub for Young and hardly a worse option that Perisic. And if we are going to play 3-5-2, then Perisic would be completely unnecessary altogether.
Youre always going to get a few people with some pretty wacky ideas, the point is people may want Perisic but the massive, massive majority of people dont want him at the expense of Martial. Some people think Mourinho wanting him means we should throw an extra £10m or something at it to get it done, that is not really comparable.
Might be (another Memphis situation). But might be he will develop, at the very least he has a chance. Perisic is a waste of money from a get-go, hardly any average 28 years old success at top clubs and there have been enough examples.
I would stick with Martial, with Lingard and Rashford and option of playing with no wingers (3-5-2) at all, it's not like we need to pluck this hole. We also need to think about future. If we are to develop a team that can challenge for top titles, we need real quality. And wasting a lot of money for simple squad players, then makes it more difficult to acquire top talent. Or to risk on a promising youngster.
I'm 100% honest when I say I've seen alot of him. Watched games with him since he was a Torcida. Seen almost every game with him in the national team. He really isn't bad as some think he is, comparing him to Zaha and the likes. He is a fighter like Valencia but more technical and can play both wings since he's as good with his right foot as his left. But for the price reported I think we can get someone more long-term, I agree with that.
