2017 Pre Season | Real Madrid vs Manchester United

I'm quite disappointed we've played out our games in a way to leave us in a position where key players won't start this. If predicted line ups are true (and obviously what Mourinho says about ours is) then we're not going to gain anything from this apart from fitness for most squad players. Why at 2-0 up vs City at HT did we not put on most of these players and save Pogba/Lukaku/Herrera etc for a decent run against these lot?
What else than fitness could we possibly gain from a pre season match? Bragging rights? :p

I suppose maybe you're thinking that it would be good to have our best players test themselves against the best team in the world? There's a match against Barca coming up a couple days after this one. Pogba and Rom etc can start that one.

I know, I just hoped to see some kind of useful tactics being applied to tonights game that we can take forward. It could still happen but I'm just imagining Carrick/Fellaini together which shouldn't ever really happen. It doesn't give players with so many question marks over them (Perreira/Martial) a great chance of impressing imo.

Hope this isn't one of those games where we set up not to concede rather than playing on the front foot. There's no point in playing the kids if you're going to tell them not to get out their own half. Hopefully Periera and co are allowed to express themselves on the pitch.

It's a friendly. The manager won't give a feck about the result. No way we'll be really defensive. We might in the super cup.

We're playing TFM and Tuanzebe. I'd imagine the setup will be relatively defensive, if only to give the kids a learning experience.

Heading to the stadium in a bit. Mostly United fans as far as I see out here!

I'm hoping for a good game and not many worries about the lineup. Just put the best out there so we don't get embarrassed.

Being competitive is one thing, wanting to win a friendly at all costs is crazy. Just do a Guardiola, start a youngster (Mitchell) and if he peforms alright say he was amazing, proud to have seen him, etc.

2 hours to go :D
Looking forward to watching this, despite the line-up we're likely to put out.

I am looking forward more due to the likely lineups.

Watching youngsters tested is one of the best parts of pre season.

Romero
Fosu Mensah Bailly Tuanzebe Darmian
Carrick Fellaini
Pereira Mata Mitchell
Martial

Pereira Carrick Fellaini
Mata Martial Mitchell
If Mata is still injured, then put McTominay in and Pereira out wide.

Well yeah, also true :D
Might be a mismatch though, if Marca's predicted RM line-up posted in this thread is true.

I think Rashford might start, he only had 62' the other night, contrary to Mata who should still be injured.

Could be A.Pereira #10 and Mitchell on the right, though.

For those expecting 3 at the back: "We played with two back fours and two goalkeepers. Against Real Madrid we will do the same.”

There are people who only have chance to see big players in real life for a little long... Better just keep thing balanced & respect the fans a bit, I think?
