1st leg: Sunday 10pm Spain / 9pm UK
Barcelona V Real Madrid

2nd leg: Wed 11pm Spain / 10pm UK
Real Madrid V Barcelona

Madrid news. Zidane says Ronaldo is ready to play. It sounds like they've got no injuries, but they'll be without Modric for the first leg.

Modric is banned - a punishment for picking up 2 yellow cards in the 2014 final against Atletico. Incidentally the rule changed at the start of 2015 so that bans are served in La Liga instead. But this one was still on the file and it's Madrid's first Supercopa since.

The only Barcelona update I've seen so far is that Iniesta missed training during the week. Obviously most of the press attention there is on no Neymar and who are Barca trying to buy.

Modric could use some rest I guess? They can line up Kovacic, Asensio etc.

Modric is banned for yellow cards he got in 2014? That's madness.

Sevilla are playing their CL qualifier that night so presumably it's related to that. It is late though, even by Spanish standards. It may have been the only way to schedule it, given Real Madrid played us midweek and La Liga starts next weekend.

But it's 11 in Spain, which is unusual for a midweek.
Ah wait you're talking the second leg? well, it's still not late for Spain, they don't have the to worry about the Asian markets, and it's mid-August. It's like playing at 9PM(local) in UK

Don't think there's ever been a game at 9 PM in the UK.

These kickoff times hold the league back from having a truly global audience

It used to be, before globalization and Asian markets etc...

10PM is prime time in Spain
Reminds me back in Portugal having dinner after 9pm then going out for coffee, coming back home around midnight and be up at 6....now in US if dinner is past 7pm then is late... but I still go to bed late:D

Yes, but I still love it, staying true to some local values.

Every league has its own characteristics in one way or the other and it's charming. The same goes for culture in general, like one pointed out – eating dinner very late in the evening, for example. And a bit of footie on top of that, double the indulgence.

Awesome. :)

Do Spanish people not have to get up for work in the morning?
I can't explain but when I lived in Portugal that was normal and not only young people. Must be the weather because I couldn't do it here in US. In Portugal restaurants are open until late and even here in New Jersey I went to a game a few years ago and watched benfica (lampioes) vs an Italian team at night and after the game we headed back to Newark and the Portuguese restaurants still open, I had a steak was already past midnight

It's played 23:00 because there are C.L games and can't coincide (they finish 22:30) and because of the heat.
I like the football at 22:00/23:00

Spain's a late night country anyway but it's summer now and the heat resets your body clock. Late nights, even if you have to get up to go to work in the morning, and sneak some more rest in when you can.

Plus don't you guys start working at 10 AM?

Also, the supercup doesn't sell rights very well internationally, which is why they go with Spanish TV hours instead of the international slots of the league

It depends on the place but yes,in summer is everything a bit later,to open and close(in Italy too I guess?)
Besides It can be fixed with a siesta :D
I guess that in these Supercopa games there are many tourists who don't care about the hour and children don't have to wake up early.

Last Clasico without Neymar, this happened

This was such a joy to watch that evening. I don't really like either of the two clubs but I do enjoy it when Barca wins against Real away at the Bernabeu. A bonus that it was Messi and showing up the shirt afterwards. Love the provocation! Hala silencio.

Another note: Marcelo should've brought down Sergi Roberto – whom some posters here actually don't want at United as RB/CM, probably because he's not pacey enough in FIFA.

They'll never admit it though.

Don't they play most games anyway late on? I always thought it was because of the heat.

You pray he doesn't :p
Eh, i don't know. I'm still in equal parts awe and disbelief about that game, but i do know i'd like to see Messi play like that again. I'd rather Isco plays like, but one has to be realistic :wenger:
Hopefully, he just doesn't do it against us the next time :D

Fortunately, Messi is already the Sun God of Clasicos
Nope. That was probably the greatest performance of his career, and certainly the best in the Clasico
