Charlottesville

Seems like FLOTUS also implicity supports the KKK

Meanwhile, Im sure Trump will feel the pressure after this broadside

Strange how politicians will do anything for votes even the president . I wonder if he really believes in the right wing ideology.
I don't think Trump believes in anything in a genuine way. His attitude towards the rest of the world seems pathologically instrumental to me.

Well since I bitched about him not giving her a mention, I have to now 'commend' him for doing it.

Quite a few republican congressmen coming out and condemning the nazis...I guess Bannon and Gorka won't let Trump do the same.

Surely that's a statement asking for less violence rather than any implicit support for the Klan.

Not sure what the US legal position is on the parameter of free speach. I personally dont think that groups that promote and inspire violance and hatred deserve 'freedom of speech'. That includes White Supremacists/KKK.

Her tweet does not discriminate between either side. So any reaction from the counter protest is caused by the provocative actions of an illegal political expression.

A more sensible tweet from any POTUS/FLOTUS should have been along the lines of

White Supremacist movements have no space within US society in 21st Century. We need to educate these people better. In the meantime, please all sides demonstrate without violence, while we find a legal solution to this problem

What an absolute fecking trainwreck.

It's 2017 and this is supposed to be the first world. How can there still exist such stupidity?

It depends, but once you start judging what constitutes hated or violence in linguistic terms, you're on a slippery slope. If such a law existed, it could easily be applied to the more ardent of anti Trump supporters.

Free speech generally works fine. If you're a racist, then you pay a social cost, and in some cases a legal cost. It doesn't require any more legislation.

Anyway, there is hate speech legislation.

I added an edit to my post .....

The irony lies in the fact that these extreme right groups often claim to be the ones most ardently against Islamic terrorism...even though on occasions such as this they're employing identical tactics and aiming for a similar desired effect. Highlighting how they're really not all that different from the groups they're claiming they oppose.
They oppose anyone who doesn't share their genetic haplogroup, the religion is very much a secondary thought.

Whats the grim irony? What the hell are you on about?

He's just making the point that its grimly ironinc hat neo-fasicsts are using a known ISIS tactic. Its grim for obvious reasons and ironic because right wing groups are known to be xenophobic, particularly against middle easterners (among others).

Thanks @Raoul, I got that, but there is also another interpretation equally visible to some. Anyways, enough has been said about it. Lets focus back onto the madness of this crisis :(

And then goes on to retweet a right wing nutter fueling anti-George Soros paranoia in connection with Charlottesville.

And again, objected to by quite a few people, so not me alone. We can go on like this as long as you wish.

Then quite a few people have missed his point then. Nothing wrong with pointing out that is ironic that the perpetrator of this crime used the method used by terrorists he despises.

He lacks empathy, a characteristic associated with narcissism and a few other disorders.

That and he's completely transactional, is only interested "wins", and his words are like snapchat videos in that their value expires the moment he leaves the room.

CNN say the police have charged a 20 year old man called James Alex Field Jr on first degree murder. No news of motive.
Twitter saying he's a registered Republican.

The next few months and years in the US can become really, really ugly. When people like those have no fear to openly show their faces at gatherings like this, it tells you a lot about the state of things. They are not masked at all. Showcasting their despicable ideology for everyone to see. This is so worrying and sad.
They don't even seem to mind that there are pictures being taken of their faces. The confidence they must have to do so is extremely problematic. There is no more fear of condemnment or isolation or other punishments through society. No feeling of moral inferiority or anything. They believe in this, they are confident.
The US must do something about this really quick. They are already past the point of singular violent outbursts. Next step would be organized and planned violence towards those these people consider inferior and less worthy.
Without serious intervention, they have their very own SA walking through the streets very soon.
Agreed, it's frightening. I'm not saying that Trump is a white supremacist, by he's a bigot for sure. And when your own President is openly spouting shite it allows the evil to come out of the shadows. These are people who genuinely feel like they've been victimised and prevented from spewing their vile ideologies, and now they feel liberated because their commander "tells it like it is" as far as they are concerned.

The "so sad!" really pisses me off. It's the type of thing that you tweet after a make believe death on TV, and he's showing a serious disconnect with reality by doing it here.

Not sure who my pals are. Ive not met many people from redcafe in real life.

And no, thread was taken off topic by Pogue who refenced Islam, and whose post has been objected to by several people.
Irrespective of the use of the word jihadist, the operative context is irony. Nobody linked that post with Islam and I still don't see the links to Islam that's gotten you all riled about.

Hmmmm

Doesn't really matter what he does or doesn't really believe, doesn't really matter what his intent is either.
His lack of action and lack of condemnation against white supremacy has made his stance clear.

Whatever is happening in the United States lies solely on the shoulders of Trump. The KKK, Neo Nazis or whatever you want to call them have always been around, but now they are so brazen and in the open as if they have received a license to do whatever they want. These people need to be put down like a dog, just as any other terrorists, yes they are terrorists.

Don't know why all these republicans are getting plaudits for denouncing racism. It is easy do denounce someone that's carrying a Nazi flag or shouting "blood and soil".
It's extremely hypocritical when you're actually trying to exclude minorities from voting or giving them real opportunities to climb up the ladder.

I find the mocking of these alt-right marches funny, but there is a generation of Americans to whom the imagery of white men marching and holding torches at night, is not a distant comic routine, but a real and experienced terror accompanied by threats, assault and lynchings across the country as late as the 1970s. From the news I've read so far, very little is done to make that connection, making these assholes seem like some fringe of American society resurrected after 40 years by Trump's rhetoric. This is more than a fringe.

And I'm tired of people saying we fought against Nazis in WW2. Yeah, our GIs fought the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe... segregated by race. And black vets came home to dogs, hoses, beatings, and lynchings for years more. Fascism is only part of the story here when the March occurs around a statue of Robert E Lee, and Confederate flags are abundant. Focus on the whole story.

The environment is more conducive for these fascists to take center stage but Trump can't be blamed for the number of nutters in the US, that existed long before he benefited from Daddy's money much less became President. The US has had a race & violence problem for a long time, it has never disappeared and I would counter that you can just as easily blame any of the last several Presidents (From W & his father, to even Obama) for fomenting that hatred.

Too often people like to single out one person to direct their ire when the issue has been systemic
