Cristiano Ronaldo - performances 2017/18

It's not about
Will get that for sure since ref included it in his report. It was light enough that it shouldn't warrant more than the minimum imho, and he's Cristiano. We'll probably manage to bring it down to 3 with the appeal

Well, i don't think the fact that it was light should be taken into consideration, this is not acceptable and la Liga should make sure that players know that it's not.

it's like Vettel's turn on Hamilton at the Azerbaijan GP this year, even though i'm a big Vettel and Ferrai supporter, i thought he should maybe have a harsher punishement. You are a professional Athlete, you should know how to keep your shit together.

Saying that, 3 games is for a direct red and i think that it should be slightly more. as i'm sure that the referee would have given him a direct red card if he wasn't already red carded.

How did Ronnie not dive there? Theres little to no contact from Umtiti. Seriously frustrating how easy La Liga players go down, the real madrid game was extremely frustrating for this very reason. And Isco should've at least had a yellow based off of diving alone.

Though I think its not a dive you'd card, but it is a dive to me. Theres next to no contact which would make him fall like a horse being shot down, especially not someone as physically able as him.

Dives such as the ones Suarez does constantly, and we saw from Chicharito vs us in the last match (though not in an important part of the field for Chicharito's dive) should be carded.

Also he should be banned, at best he'll get 3 games (or whatever the absolute minimum is).

He clearly reaches out to shove the ref, theres no two ways about it. That shouldn't happen, no matter the circumstance. Its fking rude and arrogant.

I don't think it is a dive by La Liga standards. I have seen so many players including all the big ones go down easily at just a poke in the back. In La Liga, you touch 'em and they go down in a heap.
We saw the same when we faced Real recently.
I am not so sure about the ban for touching the ref. Ideally, I would say 3 game ban for touching ref is just. That would depend on the history of the El Classico. Surely, there would have been some instances where someone had a go at the ref.

If he was going to get banned he should have just gone all Di Canio and dashed him to the floor. I'm not a huge Ronaldo fan but he barely touched him, he's still guilty though so can't argue with it.

Can't argue with this. It wasn't even 'barely touched
', it was a clear shove. But hey it is Ronaldo so there will always be people who defend all his actions.

He loses his balance. It's not a dive or a penalty.

It's a deserved punishment obviously, bit of a shame it stems from referee's blunder though. It wasn't a dive.

That's fair enough. So he'll miss Barça (2nd leg), Depor away, Valencia home, Levante home and Real Sociedad away

It was 4 games for the push + 1 for the red, they'll appeal the red so it should be reduced from 5 to 4 games which means he would be back for the Real Sociedad game.

I'm not worried about Anoeta, it's basically become Bale's second spanish home

Valencia at home though... those cnuts

It's fair enough. The Las Palmas player got a 4 game ban as well so atleast they're consistent.

He'll get the yellow rescinded on appeal, so likely the ban will be the next leg of the supercup and the first 3 La Liga games.

I'm not too worried tbh.

Ban won't hurt them in terms of performance really. Plus he didn't get much pre season so will serve as more warm up. I would still expect them to win all those games.

What do we think the chances an appeal for red card, second yellow, would be really? It wasn't a dive and he shouldn't have gotten a yellow for that.

5 match ban for a push like that is excessive. I'd look over if he had shoved him to the ground or something but it was nothing.

Referees shouldn't be pushed. They have to be respected for the good for the game. They already have next to no respect with players hurling abuse at them all the time. Physical intimidation no matter how mild should not be tolerated even slightly.
5 match ban is fine for such a push. If the referee had been grounded, it should be the same as Suarez got for biting.

5 match ban means absolutely nothing. He is nowhere near full fitness and was unlikely to start any games in the next few weeks anyhow. More time to get himself ready for Real's CL defence, and, more importantly, prepare and pace himself for Portugal at WC.

I won't be surprised in the slightest if Madrid warm up for their next match wearing Ronaldo jerseys.

How long before were linked to him again because he hates the Spanish FA and the Spanish tax office etc etc

That's just ridiculous.
It's not really. They're being consistent with their decision from last year where they banned some Las Palmas player for 4 games for shoving the ref. It might not be with too much force but it's stupid of Ronaldo to put hands on the ref.

They shouldn't be man handled i agree but i don't imagine expecting them to be treated like precious little diva's who are not allowed to be touched generates much respect from people for them. Quite the opposite probably.

Yeah Ronaldo was trying to physically intimidate him, jesus.

If the ref had reported it as intimidating, or violent, the likely punishment would have been 12 games or more. This is more a punishment for being disrespectful.

How can people think such a ban is not a suitable punishment for pushing a ref?

The level of disrespect for refs throughout, from players, managers and fans is incredible. It doesn't matter whether they're doing a good or bad job, they're the ones who are officiating the match (often while 22 grown men spend their time trying to deceive them and tens of thousands of fans try to sway them).

You cannot push a ref like that. The fact that Messi did something similar is neither here nor there. He should have been punished with a similar ban at the time.

That's incredible! It could barely be called a "push" - Jesus, one or two matches would have been fine but four?

Fair enough. You don't touch the ref.

Besides much needed rest for him

Agree with this post. Good news for our NT. Btw I don't understand some reactions by him tbf. There's no reason or need for this type of behaviour.

They should be treated with respect and that means no touching like pushing. If you don't punish what Ronaldo did, doesn't matter if it was a slight push; it opens up referees to further pushing. I don't see how they can be respected after that. So the opposite point I don't understand.

What was Ronaldo trying to do with the push according to you?

Fully deserved the 4 match ban. Players should never touch the ref, simple as that.

My thoughts too.

Don't think it is s dive nor a penalty. Seems to be out of balance all the way and tumbles. The stupid move was appealing for a penalty though. That sort of made it seem like a dive. If he gets back up and on with it he gets no yellow either.

Next time should just kick the ball straight onto the ref face, as ref is dead object during the match anyway

I hate defending him but have to agree. It wasn't even a passionate claim for a penalty. At least he gets a rest, he'll come back and probably score a few hat tricks and braces to make up for the missed matches.

This part doesn't really makes sense does it ?

he didn't concede a dive to Suarez, he thought it was a penalty so gave a penalty. whether Ronaldo deserved a red for his dive is a completely different matter that has nothing to do with suarez'.

If he saw a dive from the Barça player and didn't give a yellow, you would have a point. but he gave a penalty so didn't think it was a dive.

I agree it doesn't make sense as he appreciated two plays quite differently, maybe Ronaldo had to exaggerate more in order to don't be sent off otherwise is just baffling how he can evaluate both of them so wrong. He concede a penalty to Suárez, so he got that very very wrong and then he booked Ronaldo because he apparently saw him pretending (and acting) to go down bad enough to deserve a yellow; it doesn't involve Suárez directly but you can see how he either has a completely different judgement in what he considers to be a dive (Ronaldo) and what he considers to be legit penalty and display of pain (Suárez screaming like he got his leg ripped off and asking for the asking for the medical staff to come in). It doesn't make sense to me either how bad that ref can be.

The ban is totally just. The referee should be demoted to second division for a few weeks though. Either he was totally incompetent or he was corrupt.
