In the article Castles has posted, he says that Messi's contract is expiring in 2018(which I just double checked and it seems true) and also that City are more likely to try to sign him on a free.

I can't see what he gets out of leaving Barca. It would be like, say, Giggs leaving United at the same age. He might toy with the idea, but he knows where his heart lies.

I don't like the bloke, but I'd find a new sense of disdain if he decided to go and chase the money and join City. Swapping Barca, for all their faults, for City would be mental.

I don't think so personally. I know all logic says he would be. He's never been as good for Argentina imo. There are a lot of easy games in La Liga which he thrives in.He would be phenomenal.
Especially at a club like City.
He would be like Silva (at his best) on steroids.

I don't understand United fans saying this. He's shown us first hand what he can do. Twice. In the biggest final in club football.
I know this sound weird but good players get more protection in the CL than in England. I don't think the CL is a great reflection of how well a player will perform in the UK. Plus we weren't a physical side. He may struggle more against more aggressive tackling.
Having said that i think he would be unbelievable in the league. Ha ha.
