World Cup 2018 Qualifiers

It is quite amazing how you can have one of the best strikers and number 10s in the Premier League yet they both put on an England shirt and look average. Not just tonight but nearly every game.

What is it that England does? Is the pressure? They don't care or do we just not play to our players strengths?

Personally I think we need a manager with a set idea and picks a team based on his ideas. Southgate has switched from 3-5-2 to 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3 already in his short period. Basically it says to me he doesn't have a clue and merely choosing what the flavour of the month is.

Have people forgotten he was the manager in charge of that abject spell at Middlesbrough 10 years ago where he got them relegated? The only reason he got the job was because he was the under 21's manager, which is stupid, it should be the best man for the job not just the guy that manages the team below the senior one.

The answer to your question is precisely as you've suggested - the manager has no idea what system to play and frequently switches, his style reminds me a lot of Hodgson who'd play with whatever flavour of the month is popular. The best international sides are usually ones that have gotten used to playing with each other, have a set team and a set style (Spain, Germany, even to an extent France in the euros). Heck a lot of people criticised Portugal's style of play in the Euros but it was a consistent team with a method to their play, and they did well.

The best managers tend to be the ones that have a style of play in mind and how to effectively implement in (Mourinho - mix of strong defence and a good attack, Pep - possession, Klopp - pressing, SAF - lots of wing play / midfield attacking). The best ones then imo modify that style of play as needed depending on the opposition. Imo Alladyce would've been better for us, because despite his style of football not being great, it is at least a style that players can get used to. All this chopping and changing helps no one.

fecking hell is Glen Hoddle Dele Alli's dad?

Praising him there for running.

Rashford has just smashed one in you berk!

Brilliant finish, and yet again Hoddle waxes lyrical about Alli's movement creating the space for Rashford. He's been shit yet gets nothing but praise.

brilliant finish that.. his shot technique has the potential to be scary

WAs wondering myself! Just has to mention Ali every chance he gets.

I'm not watching your match but just wanted to chip in that Alli is nothing but a glorified goalscorer who de facto plays as a striker and gets called a midfielder.

Doesn't sound ridiculous, it's true to an extent. It would depend on how much conviction Allardyce had to see it through. If the players start doing their own thing and the pundits start laying in to the style of play there's every chance he'd cave and try to go away from what works for him. We don't have the quality so we need cohesion and a style. At present we don't have that.
Rashford scores Southgate goes to Russia

Rashford really does have good striking technique. It may not always come off down to direction of shot, or shooting from the right angles, but he consistently strikes it very well.

Wow. Absolutely no cohesion in attack by England. Definitely looking more like a bunch of individuals rather than a team.

Whats with Alli and Hoddle thing? Spurs related, anti United, pro London what?
