Both him and Jones should be saved for Chelsea. We don't have to play them in such a game if we have other defenders that can do the job. Lindelof as terrible as he's, was good against Benfica away.
What about Smalling, then, who had such a run of games? Aren't you expecting him to start Chelsea too?

You can play well somewhere and lose, that's part of football. All clubs have their 'grounds'. For example, OT isn't a great place for Spurs.. results may fluctuate, but generally they don't do too well at our place. Chelsea rarely get much at Selhurst. Stoke isn't one of our better grounds.... etc

The 4-0 was a debacle, and that can happen to any team on any given day.
Yeah, I don't disagree with most of that but the idea that we always play well at Stamford Bridge is just blatantly false.

Samford Bridge is actually one of United's worst grounds, surely?

He's neither an injury prone nor just returning from an injury though.
You have a point. But Smalling had to play Chelsea away with a broken toe and had some niggling injuries later last season, though. And overplaying them sure contributes to picking injuries.

Benfica are not a side that travels well, and yet they come here needing desperately to score and get something from the game.
This plays perfectly into our hands, and I can see us hitting them on counters again and again.
At least a couple of goals for Lukaku here I think.

That’s why I think it will be 3-5-2. It will force them to commit men forward and we should destroy them on the counter with the pace we have.

How would you fit Mata in an eventual 3-5-2? Certainly not on a central midfield three… He could fit in a 3-4-1-2 upfront or in the right of a 3-4-3.

Umm we're talking about United here right? Because we have an atrocious record there and lost twice last season, including a 4-0 walloping.

The 4-0 was a walloping, but the 1-0 loss when Herrera was given a red card for a single soft foul against Hazzard is what cost us the game. The referee (M.Oliver) was Chelsea's 12th man.
In the 3rd game, when we finally played 11 vs 11, at OT, CFC got beat.

I do agree though, at S.Bridge, our record (for varying reasons) is terrible.

One of the reasons being Mourinho's two spells there.

I'm looking forward to the game, always enjoy Champions League fixtures at Old Trafford.

Hoping for a good performance and one that builds on the confidence picked up in the Spurs game. Not too sure on the team, big game at the weekend obvisouly so expecting a few changes in that sense.

Well, I certainly didn't expect to come in here to find a discussion on how we usually do at Stamford Bridge...

It's not even a debate; we're absolutely shite there. Do people realize we have only won 3 games there this century?

    In all competitions.

    Team should be...

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    Valencia--Lindelof--Smalling--Blind
    -------Herrera-------Matic-------
    Mata----------Lingard----------Martial
    ---------------Lukaku---------------

Subs: Romero, Bailly, Jones, Darmian, McTominay, Mhkitaryan, Rashford
you dont think we should have some rotation to rest key player's like Valencia, Matic for Chelsea?

This is 1 hr later for me due to daylight saving time. Think I'm going to leave work 2 hrs early to watch at home.

I'd rest Matic if we had an alternative i.e. Carrick
I've gone full-on rotation in my prediction as club needs to be in as tip-top shape as possible for Chelsea game as it could end up killing our league chances. Should be good enough for a draw. Don't mind if we lose either, as we can make it up with our later home games.

    Romero,
    Darmian, Lindelof, Tuanzebe, Blind
    Herrera, McTominay
    Mata, Lingard, Martial
Lukaku (only because a goal would help his PR right now).

Difficult to predict the lineups for this one. Part of me thinks Mou will rest Matic and Valencia but then we don't have a good enough alternatives and we win this and we're through, most likely top the group so that will present opportunities to rest the players for the other group games.

    Players at Lowry:

    De Gea, Romero, Joel Pereira
    Darmian, Young, Shaw
    Lindelof, Bailly, Smalling, Tuanzebe
    Matic, Herrera, McTominay
    Mata, Mkhitaryan, Lingard
    Martial, Rashford, Lukaku

Blind lives locally and often turns up later so might be in the squad. Valencia and Jones almost certainly missing.

I wonder if the team will be the same as recent Swansea away League Cup match.

I really don't see the point this early in the season to rest anyone. Win tonight and we are through with 2 games to spare. Why would you want to take an unnecessary risk and jeopardise qualifying? Start with the strongest possible team, and then make changes as the game progresses.

One of the main criticisms from the Liverpool game was that it affected our momentum. Win this, and go into the Chelsea game with another victory.

    That's ace
