Manchester City 17/18 discussion | "If you're here for the Champions clap your hands" (#6505)

To be fair Sterling was looking to dive from the first minute so both sides can be accused of antifootball.

You either dive or don't, you can't be looking to dive.

Not this shit again. Tell you what mate - why don’t you give your own head a wobble? There were several stoppages in that 5 minutes of added on time even before Sterling scored. The ref spent well over a minute having a word with both managers and you ignore the fact that Bournemouth themselves very nearly won the game in the 96th minute just before we scored. Not only that, once the game finally restarted after the goal the ref played on for the best part of a minute.

In short, you’re talking bollocks:

If you think referees consistently add that amount of stoppage time, within the stoppage time then you’re deluded. The amount of time wasting in injury time which teams get away with is massive. Hence, you were lucky the ref accounted for it on this occasion.

Are you ignoring all the other examples from the posts before mine too? Why is it so hard for you to accept you have been lucky on occasion?

It still amazes me their top of league, winning most games at a canter yet there are so many empty seats for home games. And they want to increase stadium capacity

No excuse for the turn out today, really poor showing given the teams position.

I wonder if Pep will eventually get fed up with the lack of support, particularly considering how well they're doing so far.

Its how you end not how you start and Mourinho Knows how to win this league,Utd will win the league this season just you watch it unfold next 4/5 months!!

Do you know what, I think I prefer JASR's more nuanced approach to a good defence.

Do you know what, I prefer the reality that United have the best defence in the league currently over some nuanced approach.

St Pep thought he could waltz in and get the 3 points. The fact is, West Ham are not as bad as made out to be, atleast with the likes of Lanzini and Antonio who can do some damage.

Utd have the best defence again?
Can I say City are dipping now @JASR or do I still have to grow up?

Be embarrassing for the league if a team wins it with half empty stadium.

On the positive side, the fans apathy seems to be transferring to the players.

Must be tough to motivate yourself when your fans can’t even be bothered to turn up.

I don't mind the bus parking, I do have issue with time wasting in the first few minutes. They actually seem to be showing a bit of intent now.

West Ham (Noble mainly) were clearly diving around our penalty box when we played them knowing we are poor with set pieces. You just have to rise above it and put them away anyway. The dives were as blatant as Adrian's time wasting.

Look, they'll probably come out and storm over West Ham in the second half, but can we now feck this whole "best team ever" shite off now? They're riding a wave of momentum. They're going to come up against a side who will sort them out eventually.

That’s what happens when you have a stadium that has a higher capacity than the number of fans you have..

I’m sure their monthly wage slip will motivate them enough.

In fairness almost as soon as I posted that they opened up and actually played (albeit still with the timewasting). We deserve to be down.

That's probably true but whenever I've watched City I felt like Jesus was really contributing to the overall play and fluidity.

Yeah, I think he offers more outside the box than Kun but I have a feeling Pep is also benching him because he's been greedy when in decent positions. He doesn't pass to better positioned players even when in only a half decent one himself. It's an issue I think Pep had with Kun early days in his reign too.

Uhm, what? That team lost two CL SF to a phantom goal and penalties, went out to the eventual winners after one of their players decided to get sent off in the first leg at home, then went one slip from winning the CL, lost another SF to a stoppage time goal and a dodgy ref, then finally won the CL. All the while, they won another PL title and finished twice runners-up to the best side(or at least most talented) of the PL era...

If it weren't for Cristiano fecking Ronaldo Chelsea win 4-6 PL titles on the bounce and probably grab a CL or two in process as well...
We had a bloody brilliant football team. It had more to do with having the greatest ever manager than any one player. Given Sir Alexs utter genius, I reckon he'd have gotten back to winning titles after the tiny gap no matter what.

City may well win today and I have heaped praise on them and pep this season but it's been annoying that nothing appears to have gone against them this season so far. Unlike Pogba, De Bruyne has been fit and available throughout. Mane has a moment of stupidity which gifts them the Liverpool game. Morata gets injured which throws off Chelsea who started well. And the biggest one was that away game where their defender takes down the forward who is through and still gets only a yellow (forgot the opposition). Obviously they've still been brilliant and much better than us. But it would be nice if everything wasn't falling completely in place for them.

Their £45m (and only) left back doing his ACL?

Has any team in any league have this kind of record ever after 15 games? They are just too good. I think we can safely say best team in the world right now. Even in CL I can't see their equal.

Been struggling now every time we've played and won before them. Can't be a coincidence. Had we dropped points yesterday, I reckon they would've thrashed them.

As has been said elsewhere, until they win a treble the whole 'best team ever' stuff is a non starter.

Games like today is why I've crowned them champs and why I think next week's match matters little.
The smaller teams just can't cope with the amount of pressure they are able to exert on teams, even when they are behind.

Yeah, struggling to beat lower sides sure does show the lower sides can't cope with them.
The opposition have left 3/4 goals on the table in this run as well

The fact that they have struggled to win their last 3 games tells me they are about to hit a plateau. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see them get beaten by us and have Spurs take points off them as well the following weekend.
