PL L FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:2 Manchester City

Post-match discussion

Our brand of football has cost a few hundred million hasn't it. I can't stand it.

Hate watching Guardiola's teams. Fecking shit boring to watch. Despite all the posession and intricate play its as boring as long ball shit from other teams. Diving time wasting. Dont care what anyone says but that team is missing a leader on the pitch. Now way city go showboating with a Keano in the side.

Lukaku oh my days. Despite the two errors for the goals, when the ball came to him fml, turning circle of a battleship

Very frustrating loss. Dont know if it was the players playing the occasion rather than the match or the 'sit and hit them on the counter' tactic that didn't seem to have a plan B. When we attacked them their back line was wobbly as all hell.

And much as I love him for his goal scoring - Lukaku was a liability and again no plan B when the long ball to him wasn't coming off.

Looking forward to the Christmas fixtures and hoping for a seasonal miracle.

City will win the league now and we need to spend big on attacking midfielders to close the gap.

A lot of reflection required after this performance.

After years of domance under SAF, City just look the best team in the lands and quite easily too. And the first thing we need to look at is our own manager and the job he is doing in comparison to theirs. City are a proper, brave football team who come to play. We sat back like cowards as we did against Liverpool. That's the direction both clubs went in a year or so back and this is the result we see. And it's sad, really. It's about losing to your City rivals but it's also about having seemingly such an inferiority complex up your bum that you can barely compete. Also we have ths 70 point striker who made sure we played with 10 men.

Jose has improved us to an extent but this performance among a few others is worrysome. If we want to compe with Pep and City, we need our manager to do a better job. Whether it's Jose or someone else. We play backward football in comparison to City and it's clear as day.

Shite game with shite goals that City just about edged. Nothing more to it really.

why is everyone orgasming over city. they were far from brilliant (maybe they didn't have to be). we caught them on and off day and still let then win. one thing I know for certain, they aren't the best ever PL side and won't win the Champions League. lukaku is the fecking joke I thought he was. had me doubting it early in season but he's just a huge donkey

They’re just better.

My concern now is how Mourinho and the players respond.

Easy for our league form to collapse.

Didn’t think we’d lose in that matter - two scruffy goals from set pieces.

Tactically wrong, hoped we stick with the formation that saw us play so well in the previous two games.

Ah well.

There's been a power shift in manchester. City are the top dogs now.

This is the best premier league team ever with arguably the greatest manager ever. United cannot compete in anyway shape or form.
Huh?

Also its obvious we wont fight it out with them this year but it's not done forever imo?

They have been shite for 4 games (and werent great today) but we wasted half the game hoofing it at a Sunday league level.

If we tryed to play for 90 minutes (and kept Lukaku out of our box) we' have won that.

City are the luckiest team in the world, add Oliver on top of that, and I can't really be arsed about the game.

They didn't need to be at their best to show they are superior in most departments. There is a big gulf between the 2 teams in terms of courage, tactical discipline, understanding and footballing intelligence. I wanna be annoyed but I feel deflated, I'm glad this is over. Never expected the team to win but somehow hoped for a miracle.

City were much better than us today, their midfield completely dominated. Just a shame that the goals were so sloppy.

Rashford was poor. Lingard at least tried and was decent. Martial was invisible most of the time but did create the best chance of the match which Lukaku missed. Unexcusable.

At least Rashford scored his chance when it came. The goal could have been twenty foot wide and Lukaku still wouldn’t have scored today.

Both the 3 goals were gifted lol.
Not much threat in each net, was a balanced game and City ended up having the edge with luck before (-Pogba) and during (+1 gifted goal, that double Ederson save) the game.
I don't see that huge difference people talk about too. City had more possession (no one expected right? lol) but they didn't create many chances while United had naturally less chances.

The ref was ok, I don't see what the problem is there.

Lukaku must have a negative score in this game, he not only results in the two City goals he also missed most touches and failed to score :P

If it weren't for 2 defensive errors for Lukaku..
Although we were bad I think a draw would be a fair result.

What does it say about us as a team if we are so reliant on one player (Pogba)? We're hopeless without him...

Just need to face it - this group of players just isn't good enough...

Swap Lukaku for a half decent striker and we quite easily could have won that game.

As a general topic of discussion, does anybody think we play too wide? City's interplay in the final third is very good but by contrast we rely a lot on long balls and pace, seemingly trying to beat men for pace and the put in crosses too often. Our best moves usually came from Lingard just outside the D but when Rashford/Martial are forced out wide they're not always around to play those quick one-two passes. As well, Pogba makes a lot of difference when he pushes forward and does it.

Can we start giving Ibra a run again? Lukaku sucked
Ibra makes us worse. He's just not got the power and pace at the moment needed in the Premiership.

Let them off the hook big style.

We couldn’t get near them first half, but second half they were nervous and kept gifting us the ball.

Obviously Lukaku majorly at fault today - unforgivable errors and shocking finishing.

One disappointing aspect is our distribution from the back. And our forwards just utterly failing to win any ball in the air. Don’t get me started on our set pieces.

We're lucky everyone else dropped points this weekend.

Just need to keep going and concentrate on the rest of the fixtures and the cup competitions. See where we are in a few months.

Disappointing goals to concede though, and Lukaku really needs to step it up. He hasn't really got a choice. We paid a hell of a lot for him so he needs to use every resource that is available and work on his faults. Jose's reluctance to take him off is not helping.

Anway, that's that.

Herrera and Mata have really become pointless players, they contribute nothing to this team any more and should be replaced asap. Lukaku was terrible and should start the next game on the bench.
I don't like slating our players but I agree with Herrera and Mata. Simply not good enough for Man Utd.

Not a very good first half. Fortunate to go in level.

Bit better in the second, but tbh the bottom line is City are just that little bit better than us & the rest of the league.

Oh and Lukaku is starting to get on my tits. 75 million ffs. Can tell we were fecking desperate.

Title is over, City will be deserved champions, let's concentrate on trying to finish 2nd, which represents some improvement at least on the last few seasons.

Main reasons why we lost.

1 Very poor tactics from Mourinho (started very deep so we gave them space to play. They didn't create much against our parked bus although we created nothing, but one error and it was 0-1. Got a lucky goal and we raised our game slightly in the second half. Although they could have killed the game on the counter as well. The main plan in the end hoof it up. Park the bus plus hoof it sum our game up and it is not enough)

2 Lukaku not being sharp ( in big games you need your big man to score the chances. Lukaku didn't and it made it harder)

3 Peps tactics ( he set it up a big more tactically today and they could find a lot of space to use. Also changed to a more defensive team in the end to get the points. Not revolutionary, but it helped them keep us out and deal with our hoof balls. )

Positives

Young, Rashford, Smalling and Valencia played very well. We got a lot of very good players and individually the difference is less between us than it is between the managers.

Hopefully it shows the board how far we are behind and they will finish the squad overhaul.

No offence to Lingard but he should not be the starting number 10 at Manchester United.

We have 2 class midfielders, then Fellaini and Herrera who are inconsistent. We also need a decent wide right sided player and a left fullback.
