Manchester United vs Sevilla | CL R16 Build-up Thread (Return Leg 13 March)

Totally forgot about the draw, Sevilla isn't half as bad as what could have come out of the hat, but it's a good test. We've got to be winning it and hopefully the players turn up.

Tottenham Vs Juventus should be a cracker. City have been handed the kindest draw. Real Madrid Vs. PSG in there too. Plenty of games before February to focus on though.

very good draw for us.

2 of PSG, RMA, Barcelona and Chelsea to go out. Those are all potential challengers, apart from maybe Chelsea.

Slightly more optimistic now.

After third draw, we had 50% being drawn into Real/Bayern. Then it was Sevilla, what more could you ask for? Just stop being pessimistic

Great draw, should be good game and would back us to win over two legs. Would have taken it all day long, considering what real Madrid, spurs and Chelsea have got. Expect all those three teams to go out.

I hope we will not see this scenario:

Real knocks out PSG. Emery sacked for his failure in the CL. PSG move to Mourinho.

Ballbag on SSN seemed to think with Sevilla's struggles this season that we should be able to get a draw at their place and then score against them at OT - so that's confidence for you.

They have a good home record.

SEVILLA

Coach: Eduardo Berizzo

Star man: Wissam Ben Yedder

Champions League/European Cup best
: Quarter-finals 1958

Sevilla won only two of their Group E fixtures but got through on the back of being hard to beat - all except for the complete aberration which was their 5-1 loss to Spartak Moscow in October. That exposed their key weakness - although they can score plenty, they struggle to keep the back door closed, and kept just one clean sheet against lowly Maribor.

They're not good. This is a routine win. They've lost the glue that keeps them together in midfield.

Based on their weak display in group stage matches vs Maribor (and also against Spartak) and potential transfer of N'Zonzi we should have no problems with them.

It could have been much more difficult and Sevilla will still sort of represent a big European tie so it's fine but at some point I want to draw one of the biggest teams - Juventus, Bayern, Real, Barcelona etc. We haven't played those in ages.

Outside of getting Shakhtar, this was essentially our best-case scenario. We should be very pleased with this.

Absolutely no excuse not to make the final 8 this season.

Juventus, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Roma, Barcelona & Bayern Munich to advance

What a last 8 that would be

In terms of getting to the next round, it’s probably one of the better draws we could ask for. Mind, there are no easy draws at this stage in the competition but we should be favourites.

Spanish sides are notoriously a pain in the backside for us though, so hopefully we don’t make a meal out of this one like we did against Celta Vigo.

I would have said that every group winner would have wanted Basel

Good draw. Would be amazing to do a job and then get a Porto, Basel or Shakhtar in the Quarters. Really would be wide open then. One thing about this team, as poor as we were against Liverpool, Chelsea and City, we were still right in the games and could easily nick a one off final against any team.

Leicester passed them last season and they were far better at this time than this year. We should have no problem with him.

United should beat them comfortably, they’re a very naive side, precisely the type that Mourinho likes to play against

Good draw. Looks relatively easy. 0-0 first leg and 0-0 second leg, with an extra time goal from Rashford to see us through.

Us, City and Liverpool will be in the quarters barring a shock. Spurs have got a chance vs Juve but I can't see Chelsea going through. The other good news is one of PSG or Real will be out. Could really be a couple of English teams in the semis.

about the best we could ask for. city got the easiest draw, but of course we couldn't draw Basel. Possibly Donetsk or Besiktas would have been better but fairly happy given who we might have got. now let's see if Conte is this bloody genius the papers kept saying last year...

Who? They have Banega who ran the show against Liverpool, I would take him at United right now.

Should be winning this. Just hope we go out and dominate like we should and not hand them the initiative like Mourinho loves to do against anyone decent. But it should be a comfortable enough passage to the quarters.

Anyone have the fixtures before and after these matches?

10 Feb Premier League Newcastle United (A)
UEFA Champions League Sevilla (A)
FA Cup - 5th Round
24 Feb Premier League Chelsea (H)
03 Mar Premier League Crystal Palace (A)
10 Mar Premier League Liverpool (H)
UEFA Champions League Sevilla (H)
17 Mar Premier League West Ham United (A)

The usual cliche, but there are no easy games in the knockouts! Forget about how Sevilla performed in the group stage, this is a totally different animal.

Will say that Mou will be the difference over the 2 legs. Not expecting more than a 1 goal margin or a squeaky away goal win.

Not the easiest draw we could have got, but shouldn’t be particularly difficult. If Leicester can do it then so can we. Glad we get to wait until the quarters at least before we meet one of the big boys, much as I am looking forward to that.
