Manchester United vs Sevilla | CL R16 Build-up Thread (Return Leg 13 March)

If we aren't crippled by injury by then, with every important player fit, this should be over in the first leg.

We are playing Newcastle Away before the 1st Leg and Chelsea at home After it.
Interesting to see where Chelsea are for that encounter.

Before the 2nd Leg we are playing liverpool the previous weekend at home - they will already have played their 2nd Leg tie.
After the 2nd Leg we are away to West Ham.

Interesting that we have Chelsea and Liverpool at home in between ties.

Chelsea if they are still in it will have team selection quandries around who plays at Old Trafford.
Liverpool could be riding high but have an away game and may come back defeated. (I think they will coast that tie meself)

Sevillia nowhere near as strong as last season imo (when Leicester knocked them out in last 16). Also got the issues with Berrizo which obviously affects the team.

Comfortable progression for Man. United.

Good draw. If we are worried about Sevilla, we don't belong in the latter stages of the CL.
Sure, we can feck anything up, but this is a pretty good draw.

They seem a decent side, but we should be too strong for them over two legs. All in all a very nice draw. If we get into the quarters, you just never know, and regardless, reaching the last eight of the Champions League for the first time in a few years would show we are making progress.

They just lost 5-0 to Real Madrid and 5-1 to Spartak. If we can't beat Sevilla, Jose just shouldn't bother anymore.

Geez people are so deflated and needlessly negative now.

Realistically we will cruise past sevilla.

On paper it should be fairly comfortable for us over two legs. We ought to place a lot of stock in Europe because our league campaign is in limbo at the moment.

I hope 4 out of 5 English teams go through and a chance for English clubs tie on European night. Haven't had those much as of late..

Sevilla is tough opponent but we must win the tie, if we want to be a CL contender.

Us, City and Liverpool should be going through. Spurs could well beat Juventus, though it's fifty-fifty, IMHO. Chelsea are going out, which is nice.

I would say Sevilla has the worst defence (alongside Besiktas) of all teams still in the tournament. Great draw!

Yeah, they conceded at least 70 goals in year in all competitions

I"m quite satisfied,I wanted Shakhthar or Porto, but Sevilla are definitely beatable and if we aren't good enough to get past them,we don't deserve to be in the last 8.

We avoided Bayern, Juventus, Real. So i am more than happy that we are drawn against Sevilla and we are capable of beating them.

I'll happily take that, perhaps the most favourable draw of all the options.

I think we'll draw out there, maybe 1-1, and win comfortably but not massively at home. 2-0 maybe.

At least Klopp won't have to say they played Sevilla and we played Ajax anymore.

This will be the first time United play Sevilla in history.

Real just smashed them 5-0. All goals in the first half.

Funnily this was when Sevilla had total ball-control and Real just sat back playing the effective counter-attack. This would probably suit Mourinho too.

Well we haven't got the greatest record against Spanish sides and last season we just scraped past Celta. It won't be as easy as we think it is. We have a tendency to make things as complicated as possible. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a 0-0 at Sevilla and win 1-0 at home with us holding on for dear life.

Berizzo, Sevilla's manager, was coaching Celta de Vigo when we faced them last season in the Europa League.

I really think we can qualify to the semis which it will be huge considering the last few seasons we even struggled to play champions league football, we are not a weaker side than the top flight clubs, our full fit team is just great and Jose did a really good progress, Don't let that defeat against City reflects on our progress.

Considering we could have got Real, Bayern or Juventus I think we got a great draw. Sevilla are a decent team so we won’t underestimate them but are a team we should beat comfortably over two legs.

Also the fact that three from Real, PSG, Barca, Juventus, Spurs and Chelsea will be gone is a bonus and we could realistically depending on the next draw look at the semi finals as a genuine possibility.

Doesn't really matter who we get! As demonstrated against City we don't have anywhere near enough about us to win the CL.

.... Positive jinx.......!

But each round is more money and not playing Juve, Real or Bayern for another round is a great result!

I fully expect us to get through to the quarter-finals, but it won't be as easy as some are suggesting, you don't win the Europa League three years on the bounce(2014-16) without knowing how to play two-legged affairs.

It’s like saying united should win the CL because they reached 3 finals between 07 and 11. The difference is that we had rooney Ronaldo and more importantly the best manager ever

They are a completely different side though. Emery isn’t manager anymore, they lost krychowiak gameiro and probably nzonzi too in January

Not sure about your first point as 07' was a decade ago, and Sevilla have always been a selling club, they'll probably buy in, or already have as good as the three players you've mentioned by February

They lost to Leicester last season in the R16. They have been Europa league merchants.

They did get beat by Leicester City, but it will forever remain a mystery how, Sevilla missed a penalty in each leg and wasted chance after chance in both legs......

There's nowt wrong with the Europa League, I was happy as a pig in s*** when we won it last year, and it had sod all to do with the Champions League qualification off the back of it.

I didn’t mean it’s shit. Just that in 15/16 they won the Europa league after getting to the EL by being third in their CL group.they have always underachieved in CL

I hope we will not see this scenario:

Real knocks out PSG. Emery sacked for his failure in the CL. PSG move to Mourinho.

I would love that. Bring in Tuchel for super attacking fun football.
