Cristiano Ronaldo - performances 2017/18

What I find amazing about him is that even after so many years at the top level, he can't seem to develop great passing and playmaking skills, his playmaking at United and early Real days was based on pure athleticism and flair, once that's gone and the goals stop coming in, he can't learn how to play deeper and pass balls all over the park like Giggs learned to do. If Ronaldo was truly the greatest player in history like he says, he would be a passing master... I just can't understand how he is so bad at passing the ball when under pressure, Messi always manages to open up a small space which enables him to make a long pass or a through ball even with one defender's relentless pressure on him...

They play different roles. He is not and never was a playmaker. There's nothing wrong with that. That isn't his role.

And not a role he really has shaped his body into, how many 187cm muscular playmakers can we think about?. You can't jog around in an oversized body, you can't be quick enough in short movements when you're built for power... and if he swaps to that role, he loses power on his headers, air time and fighting for the ball in the area/at the space.

I think most people underrate how good he still is skill-wise for the way his body is built, for me even his signature step overs have looked unnatural for a guy with his frame.

Turn of the year, turnaround in form in time for PSG?

Time to earn his wage demands
Time to earn the next Balon D'or. What the Messi brigade fail to comprehend is that the award is run on the calendar year.

The fact Messi had a better Aug-Dec 2017 count NOTHING towards the 2018 award.

Yeah but i don't give a feck about that, he could become the worst player in history if it somehow helps us win the CL :D

Well, I don't care if you win the CL (in fact I'd prefer you don't win it unless the alternative is a non-United English club or Barca or PSG)

Lets not get carried away? He's been shite this season for his standards, 2 goals against Depor isn't exactly groundbreaking. If all he does is perform in the CL he should win Uefa POTY, the Ballon d'or isn't awarded for the CL alone, or atleast its a farce if it is. Bale staying fit will be the key if they overcome PSG.

I see you are new on this forum. No worries, there's plenty of time for you to get accustomed to Cal?

Does anyone reckon he's committed to Real Madrid now because Mourinho hasn't been too forthcoming with his interest? He's the best player I've ever seen at United but I just can't take the guy seriously when he keeps speculating about his future non stop.

I'm not overly bothered about him coming to us anymore and I don't think the club neither. We've got a younger model now who also likes to roll his shorts up past his thighs.

He isn’t really wanting to move to United. He is just using United like the countless other times so he can get a pay rise.

It should be illegal to criticize this man. It’d be like starting to have a go at warren buffet for making a few bad investments.

As Cristiano and Messi age, I can only see Cristiano declining at a faster rate. Messi is more rounded and is game isn't purely focused on one aspect. As Messi ages I expect him to drop deeper and dictate play from midfield while still impacting the game. I can't see Cristiano doing that as he's just not good as good at passing and doesn't have the vision.

He shouldn't be winning any more Ballon D'ors as he's genuinely no longer the best player in the world or close. I doubt we'll see a situation like this again we're probably witnessing two of the best players of the game to play at the same time.

Ronaldo scores his 100th and 101st penalty of his career. Penaldo indeed.

He owes Montoya a dinner today

Still, second game in a row were he looks really good physically. The counter for the first penalty was

Montoya should gift him another pen, just for the hattrick.

Good to see he hasn't forgotten Fergie's teachings, but maybe he shouldn't be taking squeaky bum time so literally.

Who cares how his goals come. I dont know how good Kareem Abdul-jabbar is but I automatically assume he’s a GOAT candidate when I look at his stats. Ronaldo’s stats in 50 years will have the same effect.
