Chelsea 2017/18 thread - FA Cup Champs, League chumps

Personally respect Conte for getting the best post the Mourinho melt down yet think the 3 at the back restricts the creative attacking play and it is too expensive to get the quality wide backs to make it successful. I prefer 4-3-3 0r 4-4-2 or even on rare occasions 4-5-1.

Hazard must be considering his options. With ours and City's spending it will be hard for them to win anything significant soon, and with Roman seemingly having tightened the purse strings I can't see it changing in the near future.
Erm, there isn't much difference between us currently.

City are as much a problem for you as they are for us.

United will keep on throwing money at the problem though, are you sure Chelsea will do the same?

Well you are horrible to watch and totally reliant on Hazard with a seemingly unhappy manager. United aren't so reliant on one player.
Not saying Hazard isn't important he obviously is, but im pretty sure our record without him pisses all over yours without Pogba.

Yeah it’s annoying he never switches up.

Looks like the Roma duo ain’t coming as expected. The Board should just sign Ashley Barnes or Peter Crouch and let me have a good chuckle at this joke of a board. This will be another push for Hazard and Courtois to refuse to sign new contracts which ultimately is best for their own careers as they seek more ambitious clubs.

They have a good manager, I don't understand why they are not backing him and taking the approach of signing mediocrity

Maybe because he's leaving at the end of the season and so they do not want to invest in him anymore.

I generally prefer a 433 myself, but what's the best back 4? We're tied for best defense in the league and I give credit to Conte for that.

On another note, Dzeko's move has collapsed. Di Marzio is saying Palmieri is done and we've agreed a £15m deal for Giroud but other sources are saying Conte prefers Llorente. Poch said this morning that he doesn't know anything about the rumors and he's in his plans. I personally prefer Giroud. The hypothetical situation may occur if Di Marzio is correct: PEA to Arsenal, which allows Giroud to go to Chelsea, which allows Batshuayi to go on loan to Dortmund. Of all the players we've been linked with, I'd say Giroud is best case scenario.

EDIT: Apparently Conte said today he doesn't really know who Palmieri is

Can't see PSG letting him go. What do you think you would ask for him?

Very unlikely scenario indeed.

It depends on the potential UEFA sanctions in the next months. If PSG is urged to sell players and failed to sell Krychowiak-Jese-Guedes at a good price, then he could be sacrificed.

He was acquired for 22 millions. Aurier was sold for 25 millions but the latter was the 3rd RB.

Even if he isn't very good nowadays, he's still part of the starting 11: given the current market, PSG would demand 35 millions IMO

Emerson has only made 65 appearances on the pitch in his entire career. Nobody knows anything about him, even Conte admitted he hardly knows what this fellow is about. There is no way he is displacing or even able to challenge Marcos Alonso for the left wing-back spot. He's just another cheapish buy and even lesser known than Zappacosta. Those blue-tinted glass wearing fans who claim he has the potential to be world class are posting a bunch of utter hogwash in forums and twitter.

From Alex Sandro to some unknown player who has never played a full season in his entire career - the club is completely run by accountants now.

Chill out . At the very least he'll be a back up to Alonso who badly needs rest.

With this guy and Giroud, we must have the best looking team in the league

Anyone know how good this guy is in Roma last season? And why he can't even play with Roma this season?

I get it that Chelsea needs a proper LWB to backup Alonso, but this guy has only played 1 league game and 1 cup game this season. Why not just saved the money and keep Kenedy, he's only 1.5 year younger. Keep spending money on average players and let their academy players out on loan.

He's has a serious injury so hasn't really played this seaaon. As for Kenedy, hes not an academy player.

I spoke to Roma fans, and they said the reason why Kenedy hasn't been really play because Kolarov has been very consistent this season. It seems Chelsea has decided to take a punt on a player who had serious injury last season instead of giving a chance to Kenedy.

You'd think Roma fans would know their own player was out until last month with a long term injury. Of course he's not going to go straight back into the team after 7 months out.

He also did mention injury but he thinks that this season Kolarov's performance so far is better and more crucial than Emerson's last season performance. That's why even if Emerson is fit enough, Kolarov will probably still first choice.

Kenedy is a winger who was forced into a left back position by Hiddink — if I recall. He’s decent on the wing but definitely not much of a full back.

Wing back is different with full back though. May be he's more suitable with Conte's wing back system, and the way I see from Alonso, he really likes to go forward and has freedom to get into opposition box.

On the contary, i would suggest he's got the best chance of a decent career as a fullback.

He's about as medium-highly rated in Italy as Alonso was when he played for Fiorentina, i.e., not among the three best left backs in the league, but a player with clear potential.

Chelsea fans will soon learn why Giroud was called the lamppost and the donkey.

So happy to see the back of this guy.

Giroud, Barkley & Emerson. What do we think Chelsea fans?
Barkley and Emerson though recovering from long term injuries have good potential but we might not see them at their best this season, we need to exercise patience with them. I feel Giroud will push Morata for the starting berth, competition might give Morata the wake up call that is clearly needed.

Donkey or not, he's got over a 100 goals for Arsenal. He's decent at sticking the ball in the net, that's all we need from him.

Squad depth. Not sure why Musonda was loaned out though, a bit frustrating.

Honestly, i was more impressed with the 10 minute cameo of Hudson Odoi than i ever have been Musonda. Can't see the big fuss with Charly.

I agree its frustrating, but hopefully he really performs at Celtic and I can see him coming back and being similar to Christensen. I'm happy with the business really. For the money we've spent at least it has been spent well.

Nothing worse than the board hitting us with a double whammy and being penny pinchers plus signing shite players. e.g crouch, carrol etc
