Premier League Gameweek 26 (3rd - 5th February 2018)

Dont think the first incident was a penalty - offside and barely touched, he was looking for it. Karma stepped in and he didn't score.
2nd incident was a penalty for me, I do think it was unintentional from VVD, but he kicked him nonetheless.

Big balls for the call to be made in the 2nd one, good to see, not afraid to shy away from big decisions like Stuart Attwell.

Where's the giant Liverbird lol smiley

Could only find this

Isn't Kane offside when the ball is played to him? What does a defender getting a touch have to do with anything?
I would agree with you, I thought it would have to be a deflection that diverted the pass towards Kane when otherwise it would have gone elsewhere for it not to be offside, as it is the ball was headed to Kane before the defender touches it so surely it should be offside?

If the defender deliberately makes contact with and plays the ball (even a mishit like that) its deemed a new phase of play and not offside.

The rules for the first pen make no sense, but I think it's how the current interpretation reads. Despite Kane being offside and Lovren only touching it BECAUSE Kane is there, somehow that's not interfering

Second one anyone denying it must just not have seen the angle. VvD kicks Lamela - hard - before realising he's there. It jars VvDs foot right around in the replay.

If the last touch is from the opp player it isn’t offside.

Not really, I think the player has to misplace a pass, or control the ball badly. If it deflects off the defender, its still offside.
It's one of the greyer areas of the rulebook, nobody discusses this also lol.

The look on Klopp's face when the penalty is given when the Spurs player gets booted in the back of the leg.

But he was already offside at the time of the original pass.

It doesn’t matter, it’s a new passage of play when it hit a Liverpool player. The linesman made it quite clear when it happened.

Yup. There is noway he pulled out, the contact was there before he realised he was there.

It might have been brave but it was clearly wrong - as Red Forever says, it was a clear dive (as was Kane's) and it will be interesting if in retrospect any action is taken because it is precisely for those situations the new rule was introduced.

Kane's was clear dive, agreed. Pathetic that English pundits can't bring themselves to admit as much. Second one is clear pen for me. VD's swipe to clear the ball catches the Spurs' player who has the ball on his side. Even if he exaggerates it, the actual foul is not impacted by it. But I don't think everyone will see it that way so it is probably a 50/50 call.

We had a better one with about 30 green  smileys that we always used to use.

Yeah I remember, the giant Liverbird one. Unfortunately the original link doesn't work, I have saved it somewhere on my old desktop. Might dig it out

If the last touch is from the opp player it isn’t offside.
A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:
  • gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has:
  • rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar or an opponent
It was offside.

You think the FA will ban Kane for that? You think they'll ban the Harry Kane for anything?

Kane could pull down his pants during a match.
Take a dump.
Then take his excreta and throw it into the crowd. He still wouldn't be punished. :p

That's what I think but the lino and now Carragher seem to think the defender getting a touch means its not offside. I can't know more than a professional official and an ex pro player, can I?
They’re both wrong. It’s the same reason why the WBA goal in the Cup game was wiped out by VAR - Kane is interfering with play by being offside and pressuring the defender into making an error.

VVD was a clear peno. He was in good position, but hesitated on his first clearance attempt which allowed Lamela to get into position between the ball and VVD. VVD wasn't truly aware of his bad position then cut across the back side of Lamela after his established position. There was contact that impeded Lamela to play the ball.

Well the FA website disagrees.
