The plan was not that bad actually. Most Americans support what he proposed. The GC lottery is a joke. Extended family sponsorship is limited now so no biggie if its scrapped.
A $25 billion construction project will create a significant number of jobs so its not a completely futile exercise....its like the Hoover Damn without the water lol
They could generate far more with a proper national infrastructure plan to rebuild roads and bridges. That is definitely needed.

There is actually a sound argument for improving the Mexico border as part of the DACA/immigration bill. If citizenship is granted to 800,000 dreamers what happens in 10-20 years if we do not improve the porous border security. Around 78% of the dreamers are Mexican, and I presume the vast majority came illegally across the border. The majority of the remaining dreamers are from central and south American countries, so there is a good chance many of those came over the border.

Yeah but the wall wouldn't do anything to keep anyone out. It wouldn't be contiguous, wouldn't guarantee people from finding ways over /under it, and would be widely perceived as Trump's racist monument for his broken white trash political base. So all thing said, it would be a really bad idea.
It really depends on the final plans. If its using technology embedded into the foundation tunneling will be very difficult. It could also have a camera system making it harder to approach undetected.

Its not just the technology or logistics. Its the symbolism of walling off your country and about indulging Trump in his race baiting policy. The equities transcend stopping guys with sombreros from hopping across the border

Sigh. Over 70% of illegal immigrants came to the US legally and most of those dreamers didn't go to the US crossing a river. They came on a flight with their parents and their parents chose to never return home. If you want to really stop illegal immigration you'd need to look at the process of monitoring and tracking people when they enter and when they actually OVERSTAYED their time and Visa. The implication that because they're Mexican most of them crossed the boarder on foot is silly and it's precisely why the boarder wall is a very stupid idea by a very stupid man.

I am not in favor of the wall. Nor am I dead against spending money of border security. It should be determined by a full bipartisan study,. If they come to the conclusion that some parts of the border need new fencing or a wall so be it.
As for the dreamers, the majority did indeed cross the border on foot. Overstaying visa is more prevalent today but back in the late 90s early 2000s when most dreamers arrived its estimated that over a million people a year crossed the Mexican border.
Not to mention that for all the talk of a wall with Mexico, plenty have comes from other Central American/Carribean nations as well by boat/plane etc.
Immigration is fast becoming like Gun Control. One of the reasons that it is easier for people opposed to Gun Control is that they just have to say 'no' to every measure and they don't have to look for a solution. Trump is dangerously close to taking a position like that on Immigration. Already disbanded DACA and has started saying 'no' to any compromise.

By boat primarily: Cuba/Haiti. Illegal immigration to the US from the Caribbean has been down over the past 15 years.
When it comes to DACA the overwhelming majority are Mexican, and most of the remainder are from central and south America. Most arrived in the late 90s and early 2000 when hundreds of thousands walked across the border each year. I have a friend from Cuba that defected when he was on a business trip in Ecuador. He walked 2,000 miles through central America And over the border in El Paso.
I am not sure many Cubans are dreamers because they actually got asylum until recently.
The wall is a moronic idea. I'm shocked so many believe it is a good idea and especially shocked people actually buy in to the notion that it will reduce drugs. It's laughable.
I think there is support from border control and law enforcement to spend money on border control. Whether that is more fencing/walls in some sections, better equipment or more man power. It really isn’t up to you, me or a bunch of moronic Trump supporters to decide what is needed.

Well if you live in America in a State with a large immigrant population its inevitable. If you want I will give you his email and phone number and you can have a chat with him. Its also likely if you have paid healthcare insurance, taxes and used the services you would have real life anecdotes.
It's clearly not up to me as I'm not from the States. But it is actually kind of up to the people who voted for Trump as that was one of his main campaign promises AND that's the whole point of voting really. They voted for a wall and they were promised a wall so they should get one, although I reserve the right to mock the idea and point out its numerous flaws and the idiocy of it all. The same as the lies surrounding it such as it will stop or reduce the flow of illegal drugs when it clearly won't at all and the fact Mexico are supposed to be paying for it when they won't. AND that the cost has risen from 2 to 8 to 10 and now to 25 billion dollars. It's a sham.
Anderson Cooper commented the other night that logistically it's a nightmare and Trump doesn't want to build it, instead keep saying It's being blocked by the Dems so he can campaign on the idea again in 18 months time. I think he may be on to something there.

There are many good men and women working in law enforcement and border control. To label them all as SS is childish and wrong on so many levels.
No one is saying they should decide on anything but they are one of the major players so their opinion counts. A bipartisan committee should review border security and determine if anything needs doing.

Well, Loss of pay is effective immediate (After 1 business day). Salary is immediately cut off and even payroll transfer to offshore HQ is applicable only after the associate leaves. So technically, he/she can stay 180 days but without salary. It's not a viable solution for anyone to stay here without salary. The affected person in question is leaving next Thursday with his wife and 5 year old son. He literally had to pick up his son for day school after reading that email.

I wonder if there is any pattern or reason for the denials? US IT would be pretty fecked without H1B visa folks. Tampa's IT unemployment is practically zero so there is no viable alternative.
High wage visas generally come through it seems and USCIS is forcing service consulting companies to pay exorbitant wages to it's workers. There are many smaller companies that do abuse the visa system, but I do work for a reasonably large company and we've been generally on the right side of USCIS.
Is that more than a US worker would get paid?
