CL D Champions League Round of 16 1st Leg

Sevilla 0:0 Manchester United

It's literally De Gea's job to stop the ball crossing the line. He's damn good at it but that's what he's there for. Don't make me get the Wikipedia quote out again.

Sitting 2nd in the Premier League and gained a respectable draw away in the last 16 of the Champions League. Yeah, we're fecked, I just hope we stay up this season.

You are deluding yourself if you think we are having a good season. We are 2nd, how many points are we off where we want to be? You can’t expect to win it because it’s Football but I’d think it’s fair to say we were expecting to challenge or at the very least be a little closer.

What players are excelling in this set up? What performances can you recall with great fondness this season against any side of quality? Arsenal was fun but we should really have drawn or lost that game.

There is zero cohesion on the pitch and the players are winging it, there is every chance we will finish outside of the top four if this form continues.

Average team with a poor performance??? Seville is 5th in Laliga so it is not a Wigan that all you need to do is to show up and victory is certain. If you recall what happen to Liverpool then never underestimate their fire power. I wish they had a poor performance but they didn't.

Having said that, our team was nervous and every single player seemed to have made a poor pass throughout the game. We definitely need to improve on our performance for sure.

Interesting bit is they are 5th in the table but have a negative goal differential (-4).

Aren't we all. I expect more of this until Mourinho sorts out his over all strategy of whether he wants to play tumescent defensively and maybe nick a late winner or whether he wants to open things up a bit and allow are attackers more freedom to be creative.

He is going to keep doing the first thing.

Job done.
Its clear as day that Jose doesn't rate Sevillas away form so I can understand why he didn't risk giving them something to hold on to.
They look slow going forward and ponderous in midfield, I wouldn't worry about their counter attack threat.
It's worrying though that we don't look like a unit and don't attemp (doesn't look like it) to play some good, effective football.

3-3 would have been a better result for us as well.
Not if we also concede 3 at home.

I'm not saying that we're a better side than Liverpool. All I am saying is that we can't lose our heads over a goalless draw away at a tough ground.

What's happened in the last month? This seems like a completely new dysfunctional group. The talent is there, but Jose is just not getting the best out of these players. It's not just about beating them at OT, this is not Manchester United. The excitement built from the other fixtures leading up to today was great and then we have to put up with this BS.

I can sympathise with everyone who is dismayed with our performance. Was it 1 shot on target we had? That speaks volumes
I agree. We were poor tonight. It's concerning that nothing sticks in midfield and they want Lukaku to come deep and hold the ball, something he isn't very good at. If we can't keep the ball for a sustained period of time we're inviting trouble. But why say that when you can just say "Sack Mourinho, worst game in the history of the club, we're already out of the CL".

I'm tired of watching United play like this and we should be able to produce some decent football at times.

I'm surprised more people don't feel like this. After the shit we put up with when we had LVG and Moyes, we should be aiming for more than this.

I understand it's a tough game, but you to be more brave than this. I wouldn't mind the 0-0 if we can string more than 5 passes together.

I think signing Sanchez and putting him on the left has destabilised things when he should have replaced Lingard or Mata.

It was like watching Stoke in Europe .
Garbage

What a horrible performance. Been like this since the Spurs away game. Absolutely boring and sloppy.

0-0 is not a great result away from home. Basically we have to win to go through. Any score draw puts Sevilla in the QF.

I fear something has suddenly gone very bad in the attitude of the team in general. Hope I'm wrong.

Means feck all if we aren’t reflecting that on the pitch.

100% agree.

It's just highlighting the mismatch of expectations vs reality really.

Tier 1 badge with tier 1 expectations, but with a tier 2/3 team with tier 2/3 performances.

I don't think he will survive at the club for long if it continues. We aren't winning the league this season and probably not the CL.

Katie that was one of the most positive posts tonight. You are losing your mantle. X

You've had a nightmare here sunshine.

Was the comment: Atletico don't want to play like Barcelona or was it Atletico don't want the trophies Barcelona have had over the last 10 years?
Also, did I say that Manchester United should be aspiring to follow in the footsteps of Atletico Madrid? I think you better go back and read it again.
Why did you mention Atletico Madrid if you wasn't using them as comparison? It's no coincidence the teams with the best football on the pitch are consistently dominating, it's simple reality.

Don't follow La Liga but this might indicate 1 thing. When they win they win with a small margin, but they often given up sometimes. You don't expect them to lose concentration at CL games.

If Jose manages to bore his way to another CL win it will be his biggest achievement since Porto. I couldn't careless how we got there.

Last season we finished 6th and won a League cup. Yes, we're having a good season. Our benchmark isn't a City team that have broken numerous records and some lunatics in the media are calling 'the best club team in England ever'. So lets not compare apples with oranges.

Too many players are in bad form at the moment. I don't know what watching City run away with the league and being told you're shit every week does for your morale, I'm not the expert on that unfortunately.

We're no where near as bad as people on here want us to be.

It really is pretty bizarre. A lot are too concerned with being top reds, instead of realising when things need to change. We are just kind of existing at the moment, you don’t get the sense anything is really building or happening moving forward. We certainly aren’t improving that’s for sure.

A game like this from time to time in tough away games to get a result is fine. You just can't manage United and don't win the top honours playing like this.

it's not cut and dry but we're still in the driving seat. would you have preferred to have drawn 0-0 at OT and had to go there and win? not many would want that.
We wouldn't need to win. A score draw would be enough. It's a bad result for me. 0-0 favours the home team and not the away team.

You hold onto to that thought mate, but the reality is we aren't getting noway near the final, let alone winning it,

Katie that was one of the most positive posts tonight. You are losing your mantle. X
I'm not really a negative poster, well except from predicting scores, but I think Mourinho has finally broken me.

i would hate to be hoping for an away goal at the Nou Camp. it's just easier to score at home, simple. Sevilla were poor in front of goal tonight at home.

I know that its easier to score at home but the way we've been attacking lately puts doubts in my mind.

Aren't we all. I expect more of this until Mourinho sorts out his over all strategy of whether he wants to play tumescent defensively and maybe nick a late winner or whether he wants to open things up a bit and allow are attackers more freedom to be creative.

The thing is- we were open as feck today. It's a good job Muriel is shite or else we would have conceded. There was so much space between our defence and midfield tonight. A competent will feck us up the arse.

Do you really get the sense we are improving or moving forward as a team? Do you sense us evolving and perfecting our system and way of playing?

We're not winning CL this season or any time soon.

QF is the best we can get.

Just wow. Speechless.

You should care - we will get nowhere playing like that

Why? Its a cup game - the best way to approach cups is to take it one game a time.

Regardless of if its Sevilla, Barcelona or WBA - Jose was always going to be more cautious in the first leg than in the return.

And I don't know why you're so upset about the result/cautious performance. We played a side with one of the best home records in Europe.

I actually know that. Was just teasing slightly based on your gorgeous, loose-fitting tagline.

Why did you mention Atletico Madrid if you wasn't using them as comparison? It's no coincidence the teams with the best football on the pitch are consistently dominating, it's simple reality.
They're really not though are they? Why don't you count all the trophies Spurs, Liverpool and City have won over the last 4 years and look at how many we've won. Same in Spain.

Again, I think you should go back and read the original message before you start saying I compared anyone to anyone.
