Game was at 3am for me so could only watch extended highlights when I woke up. Can someone who watched it tell me:

- How Pogba played?
- Did Martial play on the left? Sanchez right? How was Sanchez?

Pogba started slowly but grew into the game, no coincidence that United improved as he did.

As for Sanchez and Martial, we had a strange sort of 4-2-2-2 formation today, with Sanchez and Pogba behind Martial and Lukaku for a good portion of the game. Though Martial largely played on the left and Sanchez on the right. Sanchez was poor and Martial had a good first half but was very poor in the Second, got subbed for Lingard.

Pogba kept things simple. Nothing special.
Sanchez missed a good chance earlier, again nothing special from him. Found him a bit anonymous at times.
Martial played on the left.

Pogba went back to basics for most of the game, a definite improvement on his recent performances. He was pressing and working off the ball much harder while also going forward and trying to create.

Martial and Sanchez rotated positions. They both spent time on the right, left and middle.

Sanchez was ordinary this game, he was very good at winning the ball back and running forward. But nothing was coming off for him. His best moment was the pass to Martial which was quite difficult, Martial assisted Lukaku straight after that pass. He missed a very good chance in the 1st half from a bit of overthinking by taking too many touches.

Mourinho is the man! Got the subs and tactics spot on!

Lukaku finally stood out in the big game. Needs more of these performances to make it here long term.

Cheers fellas.

A masterclass in tactics by Mourinho and a fantastic performance by Lukaku.

Keep in mind we're still dealing with a makeshift back line and yet Chelsea were limited to two clear chances on goal: Morata and Willian. We didn't create many chances either but, finally, we finished well on the few chances we created.

Apart from an unusually high number of wayward passes in transition our counterattacking play was nearly perfect. I'd like to see more from our fullbacks going forward but it may just not be in them. I'm also increasingly concerned about Sanchez but it's still early days so let's see if he can pull it together against Palace.

Currently I'm living in your country whilst working for a year, I set my alarm for 2.55 and watched the whole thing. Safe to say the misses was not happy especially when I practically headed in Lingards goal myself whilst she was next to me trying to sleep. Now sat in work like a Zombie.

Chelsea were absolutely awful in the second half... Basically let us win the game.

Decent performance still mind... Rom, Matic and Valencia the stand outs.

Pogba played well in an attacking sense especially in the second half. Was pulling off some great skills and was generally in bully mode but started off slow and defensive wise was pretty poor in general.

Martial played on the left, overall poor performance from him but Sanchez was arguably even worse. Nothing came off for him and he looked very sluggish.

Lukaku after his goal, was quality in the second half.

Chelsea were better first half but completely neutralised second half and we overall edged it imo.

Fans need to be more louder although we didn't play catchy football most of the game today but God the support was so quiet.

Such a gigantic, gigantic 3pts. So big, that win.
First half, we were gash but better second half. Lukaku - genuinely delighted for Rom, a real performance to silence the ritics, good lad!

Some good performances there today, onto the next one and let's get some confidence back on a constant basis.

Very much a team Jose performance. Uninspiring, but a massive 3 points.

Martial swapped places with Sanchez, & they were the worst two players we had on the pitch. All in all a decent display, very regimented, & Pogba had a good game, but Chelsea were not that good, & if they had a decent striker, dare I say like Lukaku, instead of Morata, would have probably won easily.

Positives:

Lukaku was a monster especially in the second half and hopefully this performance will give him confidence going into the big games in the future.

Pogba grew into the game and as he improved so did we, kept it simple for the most part but showed why he’s wasted in a 2 man midfield.

Matic was great and showed that with legs alongside him there’s few, if any, better than him in the league as a defensive midfielder.

McTominay was again calm and assured and was given a HUGE show of confidence by Jose in being asked to man mark Hazard, find of the season for me and will only get better.

Smalling was very good again and is showing that when he and Jones don’t play together both can be very good players, I think Matic having legs alongside him makes Smalling better too.

Negatives:

Sanchez was fecking awful and is looking like he’s simply brought his Arsenal form with him, even when on the left or off the striker (his favourite positions) he looked awful.

Martial being moved to the right at times to accomodate Sanchez is doing nothing for him at all, he looks a different player on the left and seems to be our only player capable of running at the opposition with pace and meaning.

Young is NOT a left back and why Shaw isn’t playing when he’s apparently in great form is beyond me, I pray to god Young isn’t starting against Salah when we play Liverpool.

Lindelof just can’t seem to get to grips with playing in a back 4 in this league, if Smalling hadn’t been so good today Lindelof would have been fully exposed today.

We were lucky to be in it at half time. Conte probably couldn't believe how United were level (as with most of us). Second half we were much the better team. Again as soon as we got the lead, Mourihno went into negative mode - Chelsea put on an attacker and Mourihno went six at the back. Lucky for us Chelsea were pretty toothless.

Ends up in Russia, sleeping on the street.

Considering how cold is outside, it seems like Russia. Safe and home, I salute myself.

As for the game, can't still decide the best moment, Rom assisting for Lingard goal, Rom beasty mode run in the last minute or Valencia hilariously holding the ball few minutes before the end going up and down the flank. Valencia slightly edges it imo.

Had a cocktail, gin tonic and 2 beers. My head hurts. But it's a nice pain cause we won!!!

I've been very anti Mourinho of late, but, that second half just shows that with a bit of freedom, the team going forward can look good.
It's only one game so we shall see, but a big improvement on that second half.

First have was dire though
The first 5 minutes set the tone. Rudiger being able to run about 30-40yards untouched to our box just shows the lack of our closing down.

Anyway, first half forgotten, please lets keep with a more attacking mentality!

Good result and a very good second half especially. It's been a while I properly enjoyed a result, especially against a big team. Nice to see Lukaku step up against a big team. He needs more of that now. No excuses.

Only negatives were that De Gea had an off day compared to usual standards, and Sanchez has continued to under-perform. Should have buried his chance today.

First half was terrible, a continuation of Newcastle and Spurs games. Second half was a lot better and great to see us come from behind to win against a top 6 rival. Result was the most important thing. I would quite happily take more of the same against the scousers.

Whilst I don't want to see our Dave making mistakes, it's quite nice for us to bail him out of this game and get all 3 points despite being poor in the goal, and having a few shaky moments. We owe him an immense amount, so hopefully he's seen first hand that we do have the ability to win games without him at his best.

If they had scored more goals they would have won. If we had Willian we probably would have scored more goals. Chelsea was as good as we allowed them to be. In the second half once we got to grips with how they were playing it was mostly under our control.

Hah yeah I used to try that but it left me so tired at work so I just go on fullmatchesandshows and watch extended highlights.

Not my country though! Also from the UK just been living in this hemisphere the last 3 years. Moving to Canada end of March so should be easier to see some of the games finally.

Good points in analysis by Jenas - how Matic and McTominay turned it around

Is that you Kevin Keegan ;).

I was not happy in the first half, we did not start at all well, settled down about half way through the half. When they scored I was worried because I couldn't see us getting back into it but thankfully we changed a few things around and the players got their acts together, we came from behind and got a very good result.

I thought defensively we were ok, it's still an area of the pitch that needs to be addressed in the summer. They all looked like they had a mistake in them today. Valencia is the best we've got at right back that's fair enough, at centre half we just need to get Bailly back in, he'll build up his match fitness pretty quick I'm sure, either Jones, Lindelof or Rojo playing alongside him. I think we need to get another top centre half in the summer because it is all swings and roundabouts with the majority of the players we have there. Young at left back again, I just don't get it, I think he's alright there but why are we playing him over Shaw still? I don't understand, apparently Shaw looked unhappy leaving the stadium today and I'm not surprised.

The midfield three worked a treat today, credit to all of them.

In attack, we've definitely got the personnel, it's just getting the right combination and also providing them with the service.

You could argue this is the start of a difficult period with us for fixtures but at least the players don't play until next Monday now, hopefully we can get a couple back from injury in that time.

United started the game slowly because of the new formation which took the players some time to get adjusted to.

Conte took Hazard off because he was tired. (Probably because McTominay was hounding him the whole match).

Pogba kept things simple. Nothing special.
Sanchez missed a good chance earlier, again nothing special from him. Found him a bit anonymous at times.
Martial played on the left.
1. Pogba didn't keep it simple for the most part, he went on lots of mazy runs.
2. Sanchez was a big reason for our solidity in comparison to previous performances as he tracked back really well.
3. Martial played on the right not the left.

Thought or spine was outstanding.. 2 centre halves, 3 in midfield and Rom up top all won their battles.. Matic was different class today, also think Pogba got the better of Kante big time, overpowered him time and time again.. Delighted for Lukaku.. Absolutely buzzing tonight tho. Gives me hope going into Liverpool an Sevilla.. GGMU :)

3. Martial had 8 touches on the right and 34 on the left. He played on the left.
