Russia's at it again

Exactly. It is an obvious "WE DID IT" message, they never had any intention of getting away with it.
Its a very powerful move for Putin to make. Essentially saying, I'll kill anyone I want, wherever they might be and I don't give a feck if everyone knows I did it.
I doubt the person targeted meant anything specifically, just someone they could find easily (was living under his own name).
Putin openly admits that he cannot forgive “betrayal” and apart from Skripal betraying Russia he has also called Putin the worst Russian President ever (can’t you just see Putin’s cheek twitching at that) and his daughter has said she would like to see Putin jailed. More than enough to target him I would think.

Haven’t see it this morning, was meaning last night. Sky keep showing excerpts unfortunately.

My understanding is that Russia is basically saying “not us”. Is that still the case?

And what’s the thinking behind them requesting samples of the nerve agent?

Skripal had already been tried, convicted and jailed. He was released and pardoned by Medvedev as part of the Illegals program.

Also, the only crime his daughter has committed is being a Putin critic.

They went going after a guy in Britain that they had already pardoned and released as part of an exchange program with britain. It's a blatant feck you to any kind of deal you could think to ever make with russia, nevermind the attack being on british soil.

I wasn't really talking about this specific case but more in a general, theoretical manner which I believe was the direction Nucks was going.

Was the case last time I saw it. Russian Tennis..every time someone hits a ball at us hit it back again.

Seriously they are probably doing as we would...How do we know a nerve agent was used....How to we know it’s Novichok....How do we know that they (UK) are not making all of this up etc etc. They are not going to come back to us with an answer, they are just going to hit the ball back and forth. Putin will think it amusing no doubt.

Espionage against your home country is considered treason by every single country on the planet as far as I know. That is a capital offense in every single country that I am aware of. As such, if the guy spied on his own country, and he is found guilty, then killing him would be a judicial killing. If he is killed without being found guilty via due process, then it is extra judicial.

Only if the they convict him with the death penalty which a lot of countries don't have though.

Why is it that on every news article's comments section on social media, the comment with the most likes is often the one proposing it's all a massive conspiracy theory and that the British government staged it, or that Putin is a hero and a gentleman?

Are people that naive? Or is it just anti-westernism?

Bots?

Hmm, a fair few of the 'likes' and comments in support of Putin are from correspondents from the middle east and Arab world. Again, could well be Russian bots masquerading as other people, or just anti-western resentment from middle eastern people in the form of "your enemy is my friend"

...and as @Cheesy says, plenty of small minded types closer to home too.

Scotland Yard probe death

Counter-terror police are leading an investigation into the unexplained death of a man in his 60s in London.

Police are not naming the man, but he is believed to be Nikolai Glushkov - a friend of Boris Beresovsky, the Russian oligarch who criticised President Vladimir Putin.

Officers says the investigation is a precaution.
Died last night apparently.

Russia not giving a feck eh? Could be natural cause though.

I honestly found May's tough talk amusing. This is a Prime Minister who's too cowardly to reel in her own foreign secretary and terrified at the prospect of upsetting tyrannies such as the Saudis. What exactly is she going to do when the timer runs out? Formally tell the Russians that she's quite cross?

Putin probably pissed himself with laughter when he received that ultimatum.

I genuinely think Russia is taking the piss now. Those tweets are amateurish as feck.

I think that's just the way their Embassy operates, for some reason. Can remember it being like that before.

They posted some childish shit in and around Brexit too. Doesn’t really help oppose the Russian bot narrative when their embassy posts in the same juvenile style as all the underpaid oiks in Twitter farms back home.

The state of the UK government is appalling. They’ve given Russia an ultimatum, and they’ve said, honour it or then we’ll see.

Absolutely idiotic just like with Brexit they are completely unprepared and inept. The worst government for decades. We really need to get rid of these fools before they completely destroy this country.

What should the alternative reply have been? "Don't do it again, lads."

The St Petersburg troll factory.

Vlad? That you lad?

No, but if you give them an ultimatum present the consequences don’t say we’ll see. They’re trying to look strong while coming across incredibly weak. Theresa May’s catchphrase is “let me be clear”.

What?

What is the advantage of showing your hand? If, for example, they plan to target certain individuals, there is no point giving them 48 hours notice.

I generally think she's a complete joke and a waste of everyones time, but given a hostile foreign state just launched an attack on UK soil using a weapon of mass destruction, I'm going to wait and see how she handles it before sticking the boot in.

There will be no measured response proportionate to a foreign state attempting to murder a British citizen on British soil this is why her ultimatum is an absolute joke.

Its an act of aggression and it will not be met in kind which renders this whole show as all bark and no bite. Russians and the whole world will be laughing.

Without wanting to sound extreme - it reminds me of the buildup to WW2 (not that I was alive back then). Hitler just gradually pushing more and more, and seeing just how much he could get away with before someone eventually said "enough is enough".

Killing some bloke is a bit different from annexing the Sudetenland.

But we don’t know what the countermeasures will be yet. I am no fan of May but I don’t know what she has done wrong here. She had to make a public response to such a flagrant disregard of British sovereignty and she has observed the usual diplomatic protocol of setting an ultimatum in which the other side has to respond.
