Russia's at it again

One is related to the Trump/Russia investigation, the other is related to Russian interference in global elections and murdering their own.

Out of interest, are you guys watching carefully for potential Russian propagandists on Redcafe?

Have they tried? Even in the newbie section?

I’d definitely not put it past the “internet research agency” ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Research_Agency?wprov=sfla1 for the uninitiated) to attempt to insidiously pervert discussions here in the same way they did on Twitter, Facebook and Reddit.

We are a closed site so anyone who WUMs generally gets tossed out fairly quickly.

Stronger response than i had expected. Of course only sanctions will really work but there you go.

In Red Cafe, propagandists watch out for you.

We have our own GRU rep here. Helps us get a sense of Vlad's latest orders.

This isn’t going to achieve much. They should sanction the shit out of Russia and hit them where it hurts.
Most of the ones that they will throw out will be the ones that they believed to be spies but could do nothing about. By expelling them they damage Russia's spy network.

If they want to hit them where it hurts they should remove them from SWFT banking and shut off Russian gas from entering into the EU and replace it with alternative gas sources.

Qatar, Azerbaijan, and the US for starters. Slightly more expensive due to transport, but definitely worth the price of energy independence from Putin's mafia state. Europe already has a lot of LNG terminals who can handle the regassification.

I can’t see any realistic scenario where Europe completely weans itself off Russian gas but they should definitely pursue increased diversification. The current relationship however isn’t as one-sided as sometimes depicted. It has its own MAD check on behavior as Russia can’t turn off the tap for any length of time without badly hitting its revenues.

You mean, shale gas from the US? Why, who would have thought that EU has been bankrolling an evil dictator Putin and his mafia state when you can buy free democratic American gas that smells what American dream must smell like? So what if it costs more, if you're devoted to the values of the civilized world, it's a small price to pay, to prove that you're with the good guys, on the right side of history.

It will depend completely on Putin's behavior imo. If he continues doing what he has over the past 5 years during his next term, then the case for diversifying or even completely stopping Russian gas into Europe will grow, as leaders won't want to deal with being held hostage to politically motivated supply disruptions. The more LNG regassification ports come online in Europe and the better the transport/delivery infrastructure becomes, the less need there will be to rely on the baggage of Russian gas.

Is this worse than the Cold War times or not? Haven't lived during that time to compare.

All I see now is hysteria and propaganda from both sides.
fecked up world we live in.

It's like the powers that be want to wipe us all out.

My grandfather used to tell me the hysteria during cold war was at fever pitch that the Russians moved nukes to Cuba and could set one off on the US any minute. There were apparently mandatory drills for nuclear shelters and evacuation protocols.

I guess we're not at that point. Yet.

That is a good point on a MAD check. The reality is both sides are reliant on petroleum traveling either out or in.

Are they paying good? feck if I'll bother otherwise.

I'm on strike till I get my Putinbux. Did you hear me , Commissar Greenwald? Not one more of your articles pasted without payment!

Ah, fair enough, no worries.

Did you get my complimentary green tea pack in the mail? I can't recommend it enough, do take at your earliest convenience.

Some of the Baltic states and even Sweden have started to prepare their citizens for war or invasion from Russia, sending leaflets out etc.

Not quite as bad as the Cold War, yet.

There have been several close calls during the eighties as well. Thankfully, sanity prevailed in all cases.

Have Putin or Trump reacted yet?

Not even close to what it was like during the cold war. An all out global nuclear war was a real possibility that you accepted as another general background stress.

Norway expelled some Russian diplomats as well.

Really wish we'd stay the feck out of this, we've got no issue with Russia and share a border with them.

It’s exactly what Putin wants though, man the feck up. This is coming from someone whose country shares a border with them too.

I see no point in moving more and more missiles and personnell to Norway for example, like they've recently done. No need to stir the pot any further, let them rot on their own with an economy slowly going down the shitter, and an impossible budget to balance once oil reaches the lowish price it will in the future.

And "man the feck up", are you taking the piss? Both your and my country could man up as much as we want, it is still the US that must intervene if Russia decides to go for either of us.
