NFL Thread

Think Maxwell will re-sign with us. Dunno how much Kam has left though, keeping Earl Thomas is essential.

Although this may not matter since if we don't upgrade our OL, we may as well start planning Wilson's funeral.

Is it though? I mean, considering we have the fifth hardest schedule and no draft picks in the second and third round, on top of that this team really needs to get younger and we probably won't be able to beat the Rams to the first place, I'd say trading Thomas for a few picks and getting new guys in, who use this season as a learning curve, could be the best way forward. I'd love to keep him as well though.

Rams defence going to be good this year
Won’t be easy stopping Suh and Donald. Can’t really double team them both

Rams have assembled a really good squad & it looks beastly on D with adding Talib & Suh to what they had before. Quite excited to see how they do. Wade’s got himself another championship D.

Rams are rightly going to be one of if not the most hyped team this offseason. Interesting to see how they do.

This season is going to be a pisser but as long as we have Wilson, we won't be too far off and I'd put off tearing everything down for a couple of years at least. Earl should still have a few years left at least so unless we get a huge offer I'd keep him.

If things go as the potential is, this could be on the level of 2000 Ravens and 2013 Seahawks defensive units. The talent is there.

They're also rumored to be pursuing a trade for OBJ.

Since Giants are shopping OBJ, could somebody explain to me why the asking price seems to be so small i.e. "1st rd pick plus"? I mean, for a player of such calibre you'd think you could get at least a couple of players and picks.
Why are the draft picks (especially 1st rd) so valuable in NFL?

The Giants are trying to rebuild. 1st round picks in any American sport is valuable because you have the chance of drafting the top college prospects who can go on to become franchise players. I am sure its not just a 1st round pick for OBJ but their criteria is any deal for him will have to include at a 1st round pick which means they do want more.

Them having Wade Phillips still is even scarier. I have them going to at least the SB this year if Jared Goff can perform at least the same as last year.

Didn't their GM explicitly state that they're not shopping him? Granted he also said it'd be hard to say anyone is safe, but I doubt they're looking to do anything with OBJ other than sign him to a new deal.

They're coming off a car crash of a season but OBJ was out for most of it so hard to blame him too much.

I'd be surprised if they traded him. If he does end up at the Rams they'd probably be instant favourites in my book.

He won't play next season unless they offer him a new long-term deal, and I can see why they are reluctant to do so - he's coming off an injury season, has off the field issues and they don't look like competing anytime soon either way with their poor squad all around and a strong NFC East.

Steelers' situation with Bell is a bit similar, although he's already the best paid back in the league, I think.

Podcast i was listening to suggested it would be more like two 1st round picks. Not that I think a trade would actually happen.

The "problem" of course is that OBJ wants to get paid big money, that would put off lots of good teams that just dont have the cap space.

Dallas could do it for Bryant, a 1st and some change.

No way the Giants trade to Dallas.

It would be surprising but you never know. But I don't even think that the Cowboys would be interested, their first could be used on defense.

The Rams roster is scarily good.

I can understand the Giants trading OBJ. They obviously see risk in giving him a massive long term deal. They’d get decent value for him too.

That said he’s obviously a great player.

Manziel getting maximum attention from all teams

I doubt many of the teams are there to see little Johnny.

I'd guess many are, since getting a quality QB with great upside potential for very little money is a massive homerun for most scouting departments. I'm sure A&M have a couple of players who are also being scouted.

Hope this removes some ambiguity regarding catches though they still have "control" of the ball in the rule.

Do you think Manziel is said quality QB?

Not as an immediate starter but definitely a backup who can then take his time to reintegrate into the position without the weight of the world on his shoulders. His problem has always been that he was a bit of a headcase. The QB talent to play in the league is there though.

Rams looking at Odell. Should we just hand them the trophy now and scrap the 2018/19 season ?

I am not a Giants fan but I don't see the attraction of a 23rd pick. I would trade only for another special specialist position player or a Top 10-12 1st round pick with more picks. He is a transcendent talent.

Would make sense for the Giants, but the Browns don't need another WR after already getting Landry. They would be better off with a RB. Also, its highly unlikely Darnold (or whoever) would walk into Cleveland and immediately start over Taylor.

The attraction is that you can trade your higher pick and probably turn it into several second rounder which in this draft will lend you several DL, OL prospects and the RB they need, exactly what you want when you are rebuilding.

Sure but how much are you getting back for a 23rd pick?

Agree with the bolded bit, i cant see him becoming a starter in the NFL again, it will be interesting to follow though.

It's the 2nd that you trade, that's where the value is. And they are probably going to get more than just one pick for OBJ.

Yeah but that's not what I am talking about.

I am talking about the tweet where apparently Rams' 23rd pick is in play for OBJ. I was wondering what the point of that 23rd pick by itself is?

You can always trade down from the 2nd pick for a haul of picks unrelated to the above.

I don't understand you then. If the Giants trade OBJ it will be because they are reluctant to give him a big lengthy contract, in that case they will try to replace him with several talented and cheap players which is the point of the draft., they are not going to take a player on a big contract and no one will give them a great player on rookie contract, though the Vikings could send Diggs or Hunter.

Agreed but not several picks which include a late 1st round and bunch of 2nd round. For example what I would look to get for OBJ would be a top 10 pick + other picks or a great player + picks even if that great player is on a big contract. That's cuz I am not opposed to a big contract just don't think OBJ is worth a big contract for the locker room mess he makes.

Does that make sense?

No, it doe not make sense because of your last sentence. The trade has to factor in the imminent big contract and OBJ's reputation, unless you sign and trade him, OBJ is a rental.

At your fee, it's best to trade up and take Ridley.

Nothing has shown that Manziel's taken care of what's going on between his ears though. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice...

The teams all have detailed information about each player, especially as it relates to their personalities and off the field activities, so I doubt they would bother even going to see him unless they have researched where he is in terms of his personal life right now.
