Speculation that Allen's controversial tweets were deliberately leaked by a certain team to make him drop down.

Its totally doable imo. A lot of people in Toronto do gravitate towards the Bills, but all things said its much further apart than the Jets/Giants - Chargers/Rams - or Raiders/49ers . One snag may be that it would start to completely undermine the value of the CFL if the NFL started cutting in on Canadian turf.

Would any Canadians actually care if the CFL went away thanks to the NFL expanding into the country?

Can easily see this. Read that he'd deleted them a few months back so someone was likely saving them from before that. Don't see it doing too much damage simply because they were able to spin some of it, the worst tweet turned out to be a quote from a Modern Family episode that had just aired. Compare to Tunsil where the video came out 10 minutes before the draft started.

There was also a report a couple of days ago that Hue Jackson hadn't been told who the Browns were picking because he always leaks everything. Today it's been suggested Dorsey finally told him two days ago, right around when the Mayfield chatter went into overdrive.

They likely would if it only meant gaining one NFL team. If however the NFL and CFL merged into a farm system type deal where the CFL continued to operate in non NFL months then it could work.

The thing about Texas is that most people there root for the Cowboys anyway. I don't personally know what the likelihood would be of SA-based Cowboys fans switching allegiance if there was a team there. I have a friend from Houston who, somehow, hates the Rockets and roots for the Spurs but doesn't care much for the Texans and roots for the Cowboys. I question his city/team loyalty, but he says it's not uncommon for people in Texas to gravitate to the Cowboys just because of their history as "America's Team." I know I'm one of them, but American sports fans are weird.

It's kind that way all across the southwest. There's still massive Dallas support in SoCal, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, etc.

The Vikings flirted with San Antonio a few years ago; Dallas and Houston were against it - for their selfish interests not for the Vikings fans or good of the game.

That's interesting, do farm systems in other sports follow the exact same rules than the "mother" league?

My useless predictions:
  • Darnold goes first
  • One trade in the top 2
  • Jets get screwed on their silly pre-draft trade
  • My Broncos foul it up

It would conceptually be a bit of a hybrid between baseball type farm systems and the now defunct NFL Europe. There are far too many football players coming out of college to be accommodated by the NFL and a baseball type one tier farm system using CFL franchises could work

That's very interesting. I grew up in the Northwest and have only lived in Ohio and DC since leaving, so besides a couple friends from TX I only have an outsider's view of sports culture there.

I've seen a few predicting Lamar Jackson will go to New England. If so, I could see BB using him like the Steelers employed Kordell Stewart, up until Brady retires. Still not sold on him making the QB grade at the next level but perhaps he will.

Darnold would seem the safe bet, but the Mayfield rumors are growing, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

The Broncos will find it hard to screw up at number 5 since it’s pretty likely that one of Rosen, Mayfield, or Allen will be available there. Only way they would screw up is if they went for Nelson or a DB.

Agreed and there are too many athletes that leave college without the coaching that they need to succeed in the NFL because they need or want money sooner. A farm system could help teams and players from a strictly football oriented POV but I remember that the topic was discussed in one of the podcast that I follow and if I remember correctly the problem is that it's not financially efficient for NFL owners, unlike the MLB or the NHL, NFL teams work fine without the extra cost.

I think they would screw it up with Allen, who is a big, strong QB like Elway but the highest bust potential of the lot .

And Nelson is the safest pick of the elite tier top 6-8 picks, as well as a need.

I find it would be quite beneficial to those annual camp bodies, former players trying to stick around, etc. And the potential to be a decent cash cow for the league and owners is there.

No amount of college football will prepare a player for NFL. It's a whole different level. All college football does is showcase the talent so teams can pick based on potential.

Just like football (soccer) has a reserve team, the practice squad can be expanded into a full reserve team with competitive matches.

Can't wait to see who the Bucs draft, so I can get excited about the season right up until the first play of it.
Didn't know there were Bucs fans on here. You have any connection to Tampa or do you just randomly like the Bucs?

This reminds me an article I was reading about whether the Crimson tide could regurlaly beat the worst NFL teams. The sensible answer was very simple, the worst NFL teams are made of the best college players in each positions. It's Alabama on steroids, faster, stronger and smarter.

As a relatively young cheesehead, this is basically the first draft I‘m really excited about. Pick 14 and many QB‘s being picked before we’re on the board. We could actually end up with franchise changing talent. If we manage to pick someone like Lattimore, we’d be a strong favourite to win it all.

The hypothetical game would be over before halftime. As you pointed out, it's 45-active professionals versus maybe a dozen or so NFL-ready prospects (and another 20-30 future prospects barely out of high school).

There were rumblings that Miami could beat an NFL team back in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, the best college team would lose by a considerable margin to an NFL team.

A few days ago Mayfield was a top 10 in the draft. Now he's 1st overall? What happened there? Why has he risen so much?
If true, it’s because he’s the right fit for Cleveland - energy will lift the franchise. I still think they’ll go with Darnold.

In truth, no one knows where any one is going. Its all speculation, so someone like Mayfield going #1 could well be where the Browns rate him.

They were playing on TV in a restaurant we ate at while on holiday in Orlando when I was a kid and I got suckered in by that pirate ship at their stadium. Next time we went over we went to see them play and win on their way to the Super Bowl. Boy did that not prepare me for much in the years since.

Total punt but here ya go...

1. Browns - Mayfield
2. Giants - Barkley
3. Jets - Darnold
4. Browns - Chubb
5- Broncos - Rosen
6. Colts - Allen
7. Bucs - James
9. 49ers - Edmunds
10. Raiders - Fitzpatrick

Cleveland should pick Barkley first, so that Giants don't get him. They will still have very good QB's to pick from at 4th.

I proposed this a month or so back. They could still get their QB at 4. Let's see how it goes.

Probably Mayfield no.1, but definitely most wide open top-10 picks in a while. Good fun.

Nice try Goodell, still booed like feck

That crowd really hates Goodell. Good crowd.
