Antoine Griezmann - Performances 2017/18

As long we're not switching to 4-4-2, we still won't be able to play him to his full potential so better not spend money on him then.

What's the point of this, you know that it's completely irrelevant. The rare people that didn't want were people that didn't knew him and thought that he lacked technique or speed, the people who thought that he would be shunted on the right and people who thought that he didn't want to come anyway. And bear in mind that it was a minority, the vast majority of posters absolutely wanted him.
 
Reading this thinking 'is there some football being played now?'. 'Oh it's the Europe final, sweet'...'oh, it's finished'.
 
Big game player. Shiuld be playing for one of the elite clubs in Europe .

Exactly. This was the major reason people weren't keen on him back then, if I recall correctly. Unless we decided to play a diamond, he wouldn't have been as effective, as he'd be playing off the right wing. Either that, or Pogba would be back in a midfield 2.

He is playing a club that has been in the CL final, CL Semi Final and won the EL in the last three years. Only Real Madrid are more elite.

They are the third best team in their league. Those CL runs were a few years ago too. Atletico haven't been as good as they were in their title winning season for a long time.

Also in terms of fan base, financial power, history Atletico are not an elite club.

That's the reason why France are struggling to combine both Pogba in Griezmann in same formation. Both just can't be combined together and still play to their full potential, as both need completely different setup to shine, which will leave the other playing out of position. Pogba needs 4-3-3 while Griezmann needs 4-4-2.

Class player but it's not going to work here. Barca will suit him more as he'll be playing centrally most of time.

These CL runs were literally 13 months ago for the last one and 24 months for the previous one and the third team in Spain is elite.
 
Great player but an absolute clown of a person. The hair cuts and celebrations are just pathetic. Any grown man who does the 'L' dance from a kids game deserves to be punched in the face without receiving a card.

They beat Leicester and Leverkusen to get to last years semi.

Considering all factors, not just recent form, I don't agree they are on the same level as Real, Barca, United, Bayern, Juve etc .

They aren't a super club but they are an elite one. They are set to come 2nd place in a league that arguably has the two best teams in Europe (I think Atletico are a top 3 team in all of Europe), they are extremely popular in a football mad city which the biggest team in the world resides and have won the league 10 teams, 3 europa leagues the last 8 years been an arse hair from winning the CL twice recently.

He could do worse.

Probably money and Barcelona are a bigger club, which doesn't mean that Atletico aren't elite. The same way United were an elite club when Van Nistelrooy and Ronaldo asked to leave.

Guess we are mixing the terminology, I would say I agree with you, just swap super with elite. The main point I was making they are a tier below the very best teams.

I mean he was even willing to leave them to join us, despite atletico performing better than.us over the last few years.

He deserved getting punch in the face by Lenox Lewis or Mike Tyson for that L gesture alone. Saying that, i dont mind Lingard getting punch too for all his shitty celebration.

The same way we are more elite than athletico......at the ends of the day he wants 200-300k a week and only the elite clubs can do that....based on the success which has made them elite.....or a rich benefactor.....which seems to get you elite not surprisingly!

So you agree that Atletico are elite based on their performances? I'm not sure if you can call us elite at this point in time, elite is a term used for abilities and performances not size, we are definitely a bigger club but at this point in time we aren't elite, the same way Milan aren't elite.
 
Any purist of the game should be looking forward watching Griezmann and Messi indulging in some fantasy football next season!

Form is temporary, class is permanent!....we are elite because we grew organically from the 1950s and to say we are not elite right now is simply untrue and lending itself to the new money theory....we are elite like Rolls Royce is elite.....timeless....barren years count for shit in comparison to the underpinning reasons which built an empire!

You've basically named a front half of a team made up of superstars and suggested we ourselves would be better suited with a Lingard to balance up great with average....

Edit..City play a team which to me has no genuine midfielders of worth....if any at all.....and do perfectly ok!
