This is a false choice. Defensive, park the bus football is no guarantee of beating Liverpool. Especially when it neuters the strength of your own team trying to park the bus.

Jose has done a decent job of getting results off them in uninspiring fashion which is the intent of the choice.

I mentioned immediately after the second Roma fixture that this was a genuine feature of the final that could have a major bearing on the outcome. If the fans think the run-in has been long, what about the players? Two full weeks without a game, nothing to distract them and nothing on their collective minds but this huge game, the biggest in all of their careers to date. Meanwhile, Madrid, old hands at this stage of the competition, had fixtures in the past two weekends and the build up, the media fanfare etc. would've felt second nature to them.

The two-week break may well have rejuvenated Liverpool as they looked exhausted in the final weeks of the season and in need of the rest, but the two-week period may have been just a tad too long, who knows? Liverpool's form, like United's, is sketchy after prolonged breaks too (internationals etc.) so it's hard to gauge exactly what kind of effect it'll have on you.

Either way, I'm looking forward to the game and either victor will have deserved it this year. Madrid have beaten the league champions of Italy, France and Germany en route whilst Liverpool beat the English league champions on their run, scoring an historic number of goals in the process. Both scenarios have to be applauded. It should be a great final.

It's a positive in that we were absolutely knackered at the end of the season, so two weeks break will have rejuvenated the legs. Rhythm can be important, though. Mentally, I suppose it comes down to how we've managed ourselves over the break. Too much focus can be a bad thing.

In other news, I think I'd forgotten how emotional a football game can make you. And it hasn't even started.

I don't even understand the whole "there's deep underlying respect between the two clubs", no there fecking isn't.

If it did exist, it went out the window the second they publicly defended the racist actions of one of their players.

Hope they get utterly humiliated tonight. I want them to lose in such an embarrassing fashion that the FA see it fit to relegate them to the Championship with immediate effect. I will lick their tears.

Good, use your aggressive feelings boy, let the hate flow through you..

Two thumbs way up

Watched a couple of youtube vids and Madrid and the Spanish press are being a right bunch of cocky cnuts. Against any other team I'd want them to get smashed, but as it's Liverpool - Godspeed you cocky bastards.

Tottenham beat them at Wembley. In inspiring fashion.

Jose gets results in uninspiring fashion, period. That is what he does. That is why we beat Liverpool, and we crashed out against Sevilla.

Real don't have the choice of parking the bus. They're probably shit at doing it. Their best chance of winning the final is sticking to what got them this far, and perfect execution of that. Some tweaks here and there to account for Liverpool's attack. Not a complete 180 that worries first about stopping Liverpool.

Whilst I'm not going to be popular, I'd really like to see Liverpool destroy Madrid. I just hate everything that Madrid stands for, including: unsettling players, sense of entitlement, referee intimidation and a general dislike for them in general.

Feck it, I'm calling it 4 - 2 to Liverpool. Think they'll absolutely bamboozle Madrid and go 4 up. Klopp can't keep losing finals and winning this would justify losing all the other finals (bar the Dortmund final).

No fecking shit, Sherlock.

The Anfield atmosphere has been a major factor in Liverpool getting this far. At a neutral venue, it's certainly advantage Madrid. Think that's going to be the difference tonight.

The atmosphere is going to be all Liverpool tonight. Real fans makes no noise at all (other than whistling/booing), and my guess is something like 70% of the stadium will be filled with red shirts.

Think Liverpool will go into an early 2-0 lead. Madrid to pull it back and win 4-2 in extra time.

Hope Real win comfortably. A Ronaldo hat trick would be ideal.

Am worried about Liverpool catching them on the counter & scoring with their pace up front. Hopefully the Madrid defence doesn’t leave huge gaps.

Words fail me. How bout feck off.

If a midfield containing Henderson, Wijnaldum and Milner is able to overcome a midfield with Kroos, Casemiero and Modric, then I might just be done with football for good.

Likewise if Lovren gets a winner's medal... Just feck off with that kind of bullshit

Anyone else feel like They don't want to watch the match and skip to the result? I don't think I can watch them play for 90 mins (or more)

It's one of these olympic stadiums with a running track round the pitch and the fans miles away from the action. Certainly will be nothing like the intimidating, cauldron type atmosphere of Anfield, where the away team has to deal with supporters being close enough to shout abuse in their earhole every time they go near the touchline. Liverpool rely on home advantage a lot more than Madrid ever do.

Mate you’ve missed my point completely. Liverpool can be beaten in a number of ways because they are not a great Team like say, City , or this Real Madrid side.

My point has to do with how badly people want Liverpool to lose (think wishing us losing the fa Cup if it meant pool losing). And then compare that with this multi season long whining about good football vs results.

If we’re talking about which strategy exactly beats Liverpool then literally all and none do depending on the day.

Christ I hope Madrid win. If only because I have no idea how to go about deleting the entire internet in the minutes following the final whistle if they don’t.

I'm at a wedding and can't watch. Probably better for me, so i don't have to see real win it again.

Just get fecking hammered if the unthinkable happens. That's how I deal with my problems.

Though I've got two four flights and a 7 hour layover in Istanbul, tomorrow - No drinking for me!

State of that car.

Oh my bad mate!

I completely agree with you then. This entire season would almost be worth it if Liverpool lost to an offside goal in the 97th minute. Marginal utility and all.

Well my nerves have just kicked in in a major way!

I don't think I can add much more that hasn't already been said about the game. I know we can beat Madrid and I also know that Madrid can batter us. I'm prepared either way. I do think that the first goal is important, as if Madrid get it I think that would be dangerous to Liverpool for Madrid to play in front and dictate how the game goes from there.

Whatever happens later, as a football fan, or a fan in any other sport, this is the sort of occasion you live for. Everyone on here has no doubt experienced some superb highs and crushing lows as a fan of their team.

Either way I probably won't sleep well tonight, be it through such an emotional high, or lying there thinking of moments in the game where it all went wrong.

Bring it on!

Did you not watch the 2005 final?

The one where Liverpool were 3-0 down by half time? I remember it , yeah. Think that would have happened at Anfield? Not particularly relevant to today's game though. Madrid have been winning big games at every venue in Europe over the past few years. Nearly every big Liverpool result has been at Anfield. It's hardly a controversial statement.

A midfield of Henderson, Milner and Chamberlain has already overcome a midfield of Fernandinho, Silva and De Bruyne.

Stranger things have happened.
