Cristiano Ronaldo - performances 2017/18

Cristiano Ronaldo: It was very nice to be at Real Madrid

Real Madrid are celebrating a 13th European crown, but the use of the past tense from Cristiano Ronaldo might have some supporters a little worried.

The No.7 was interviewed after the final whistle and he said that he has enjoyed his time at the club he joined in 2009.

"It was very nice to be at Real Madrid," he said on BeIn Sports.

"In the coming days I will give a response to the fans, who have always been at my side."

He seemed desperate to score in the win over Liverpool, but he didn't manage to.

Despite this, he insisted he was thrilled to have won the competition.

"I have enjoyed this moment," he added.

He only scored 15 goals in 13 games this edition in CL, being the third time a player scored 15+ goals in the competition aka his third time.
He didn't score in the semis (after establishing the record of scoring 11 games in a row) and didn't score in the final after being injured for 3 weeks prior.
Blatant failure this guy.

If Messi had won 3 champions in a row scoring this amount of goals a lot of people would be dead of testicular dehydration.

Now he has 5 CL titles. As much as the club FC Barcelona. As much as the club Liverpool. He was truly a 34 year old man tonight, and not good at all. But he is truly a serial winner in the end.

More rest? He has played 610 minutes in La Liga in the last 3 months, missing 7 games of the last 15 and has 0 minutes in the Cup. If he needs even more rest Real Madrid should start to think not including him in domestic competitions, only UCL.

That's a lame attempt at snark. Its not the game breaks for a few weeks after the league's been decided, the accumulation of football is a little too much at his age. He's been playing non stop, 3 straight CL finals and the Euros inbetween takes a lot out of an athlete like that.

Well that's your opinion, saying he needs a rest is a lame attempt at excusing him imo, I can't grasp how he was great 2 months ago when he was battering PSG and Juve after playing a lot of minutes in La Liga, and now that he doesn't score "he needs rest". He had rest.

Looked really off the pace tonight, literally. I don't watch La Liga, was he like that all the season or just this game? He barely moved all game.

This.

It’s quite funny, he’s won the CL three times in a row but people will hold it against him that he didn’t score or have a good final

Its called fatigue, get a dictionary.

Was caught in between positions tonight meaning he was never in a place to hurt Liverpool, he is essentially a striker/the best goal poacher ever these days

Hopefully he has a very good World Cup but after that he could retire, there isn't much else to accomplish. He should stay one more season in Madrid to make it 10 years and then challenge himself elsewhere imo.

Weird moment after the match - he said it was (past tense) nice to be with Madrid.

To be explained (or dismissed as a misquote) later perhaps.

The best player in the world ever.

The Messi brigade will protest. :smirk:

I think he's trying to get more money, but this time it won't work. The fans are really angry with what happened.

Yeah, the same as at the end of every season.

He's just disappointed that he wasn't the man of the match. It'll pass.

Think it's more likely Perez didn't give him the contract he wanted. Wasn't that what caused the whole drama last summer?

No idea, I thought he got one last summer? Maybe he's a bit annoyed at the Neymar rumours? Who knows? We'll see in a month or two I guess. It's not like we haven't been through this a few times anyway.

If he feels like it's time for the next chapter in his career, we should let him go. Just sign Hazard or Neymar, keep Bale and get a striker in the summer. We'll miss his goals but we'll be fine eventually.

Another CL-final where he was among the worst players on the pitch.

The world cup will decide the Ballon D'or this year. Don't think anyone can argue Ronaldo has been the stand out performer for even half a year.

Only if Argentina win the WC. Otherwise it’s done
Even if Ronaldo didn't play the semi finals and final Real Madrid would have won. You can't give Ronaldo the Ballon D'or for playing 4-5 good games in a year. Sergio Ramos and Marcelo have been more important in their Champions League wins.

I and everyone else just assumed it was Bale but with Ronaldo's comments after the game it could well be him though I doubt it still.

Not really. Messi could have a great tournament without winning the thing. Like Cruyff in '74. It's not like Ronaldo was great in the semis or the final in the CL. Think he won't win it this time.

Great player but he's such a douchebag. Has to be about him.
To be completely honest, it wouldn't be the end of the world. If he wants to stay, fine, we should keep him seeing as he's an absolute legend for us. But if he wants to go, I'm ok with it aswell, we'd avoid an eventual rooney situation which will inevitably be on the cards soon. Financially it would make sense too. We'd free up a big chunk of the wage bill and it would probably be the last chance to recoup quite a bit of money for him.

I'm really not too bothered whatever he decides, altough I'd choose for him to finish his career with us if I could.

It could also mean Asensio becomes a starter which I think needs to happen. He's way too good to be a bench player.

He just wants to make it about him, he’ll be at Madrid after the window.

That's where I'd be if I was a Madrid fan too, it makes sense at this stage to be looking beyond him.

If he leaves and you bring in Neymar you'll probably be better off. Definitely long term.

I’d say he’s been the best player in the world so far in 2018, his scoring record has been phenomenal in the league since the new year and while he was off the boil in the semi final and final, he was the reason they got there in the first place with his group stage, RO16 and quarter final performances.

Maybe Paris for 1 or 2 years and then MLS?

I mean, Real will not win the CL 4 times in a row probably and La Liga is Barcas tournament. So win the titles in France.

Frankly the WC matters a lot less in this Ronaldo-Messi era. Unless Messi turns it round in the WC. It’s done

Yeah I agree. For a guy who is so obsessed with winning and his legacy I just can't see him leaving the best team in the world. Why would you?

Can't stand him and I'd hate to have his sulky egotistical ass back here. Imagine the tantrums he'd throw when Rashford doesn't pass to him, or when we struggle to even get a shot on target. He'd be unbearable.

He could. But based on Messi’s performances when it matters in the last few years, it’s highly unlikely
