Zinedine Zidane | Resigns

True but it’s still important considering he took over a treble winning side at Bayern and a Sheikh’s plaything at City.

Yet the nothing he's done in Europe without Messi is the same nothing Zidane has done in Europe without Ronaldo. You're criticising him for a fault it's literally impossible for Zidane to have displayed yet.

Needs to add a few La Liga titles to his belt.

I’m not criticising Pep am just not sure how he’s better or number one in the world as widely said when the last time he won in Europe was 7 years ago. No doubt he is a fantastic manager who gets his teams playing excellent football.

If Guardiola had won three Champions in a row... I do not even want to imagine the press

He's been a manager for 2.5 years and he's one of the most accomplished managers in football history.

He’s got a decent claim to be the bestest managed in history ever ever.

So if he goes elsewhere and fails to be a success or to win the CL, will we have people saying he's a fraud and only won trophies at Real because he had a great squad, like with Guardiola and Barca?

Can someone please list his signings please. Be intesting to see how he does when he has to build a team. Massive achievement though.

I'd love him after Mourinho.

Zidane reminds me a bit of Fergie.

His sides have an uncanny ability to just win no matter what.

Has insane player material though - has also looked tactically flawed under his Real Madrid spell. Interesting manager though.

His 3rd CL win sealed it for me. It could easily be the case that Zidane is just riding the wave of his players, but his in game management is REALLY good which is a good sign of tactical awareness.

How amazing is he? Wouldnt bet against him winning the World Cup with France one day.

Fantastic achievement. More CL titles than Jose, Guardiolla, Heynckes...

He now has more CL wins than Ferguson, Mourinho or Pep shows the silliness of rating managers entirely on trophies.
Yes. 3 CLs, you can't argue against that. But how much is it to do with the infrastructure in place?

It'll be interesting to see what he does at another club. I think for instance getting a Second Division side into the top leagues would be just as impressive than a cup win.

That’s bollocks.

That’s like saying Nigel Adkins did a better job than Zidane because he guided Southampton from league 1 to the premier league.

The man has won 3 champions league yet isn’t respected. Once is a fluke. But 3 times is the same amount of times we won it in our history.

He hasn’t spend a lot of money. You get City, PSG, Chelsea and us spending millions yet look nowhere near winning it. That Liverpool starting line up cost more than Madrids.

You'd think Zidane would struggle with a lesser team. But that's kind of the point. Not many would be able to manage all these superstars effectively, Benitez certainly failed. His success is down to the respect as one of the greatest as much as anything else.

It becomes a little too easy to still call it luck. The guy deserves major props. I was also someone who didn't think he would make a great coach because he has such a reserved nature, and I had no idea of his tactical awareness as a coach, I knew as a player he was a legend but that doesn't always translate. However, 3 champion's league in a row, including a La Liga trophy after his first full season, you can't argue against that. He is already a legend as a coach just on that achievement alone.

Domestic achievements are irrelevant in this case. What he’s done is simply unthinkable in the modern game.

He is respected. Yet there's always going to be scepticism surrounding Zidane and his achievements.

He might have not spent a lot of money but Real blew everyone away from 2009-13 in terms of spending. And the infrastructure was a darn sight better than Barcelona's when Pep moved up as head coach.

The 3 CLs would be put into perspective when he has to freshen up the side.

This guy literally won as many Champions Leagues in less than three years as a manager than our club has won in its entire history...and some here are calling it luck. Have a word with yourselves.

He's forcing me to re-evaluate the CL. I mean, winning the CL is a fantastic achievement. Let alone back to back. Let alone 3 in a row!

His post Ronaldo, Bale, Modric rebuild will say a lot about him. He can't expect to stumble upon a GOAT#2 attacker and one of the best midfielders in history again.

I'd say that's entirely unrealistic. Florentino would loathe to let him go after making him the most ambitious signing of the Galácticos era and subsequently elevating him to the manager's position (which was a massive vote of confidence). If Zidane does leave Madrid in the future for some inexplicable reason, he'll probably manage the French national team — seems like a very organic and obvious course of action: they will likely start peaking by the 2022 World Cup based on the profile of the players, so he'll be ideally positioned to lead the charge. Winning the World Cup as a player and as a manager would be a veeeeery enticing proposition for him, especially considering only 2 humans ever (Zagallo and Beckenbauer) have managed to do that. That will definitely cement his name as one of the foremost figures in football history.

I didn't say it was realistic.

I doubt he'd want to manage us.

I don't get the point you are trying to make?

In any case, I consider Zidane a great. Totally adept at transforming a side from a counter attacking team to a team that rivals Barcelona, Arsenal in possession.

Yes, he has an incredible choice of players but I think the smouldering cauldron - that Madrid is - it's equally as difficult to keep the players happy, Perez happy, the fans happy and the vicious press happy. You need to produce and proude he he has. Excellent achievement. Retire now and you will have won more than most managers - let that sink in!
