Who will knock England out of the world cup?

Look, we never qualify cause we're a paltry little nation with 4.5m people so the least you can do is perform like shit to make us feel better.

I kinda hope we do mate. I find it very difficult to get behind the likes of Alli, Vardy and Walker.

I've actually warmed to Walker a bit since watching that Jack Whitehall show where it turns out he has a funny Yorkshire accent.

You forgot Dier and Henderson! *Shudder*

No one. I have a feeling England will win World Cup.

Well knock ourselves out from the group stage. We'll draw twice and lose against Belgium. Heard it here first. Also, Jones will probably hurt himself or some else in training.

Harry Kane is a big football icon imo.

He just does not crave idol status but in every way, he has proven to be a very good player. If he's flamboyant, he would almost be as famous as Steven G now.

QF’s I think Brazil or Germany should beat England. Nothing wrong with losing to either would be embarrassing if they didn’t get there.

The most English way possible. Last game in the 1st round with a 3rd place finish on GD because of a late own goal.

The first team they meet in the knock-out stages.

I stopped expecting anything from England some time in the early 00s. At least we are at the party though.

Think we'll get to the quarters and lose to Brazil/Germany pretty handily.

Who are Ireland, Wales and Scotland going to get knocked out by?

Oh...

We'll come up short against any of the big boys. We've no chance if we meet Brazil or Germany so progressing further from any of those games is highly unlikely.

They'll come second in their group to Belgium. Then they'll do surprisingly well against Colombia in the round of 16, getting the win, and people will start to get on the England hype train.

Then they'll face Germany in the quarter finals, and they'll either get smashed 4-0, or they'll choke a second half lead and eventually end up losing to Germany in penalties.

I’d say a few of the overhyped players will be found out. It’s really a poor poor squad as I’ve seen from England. Midfield is just dreadful Henderson Alli Lingard couldn’t keep the ball between them. Plus would you bet on Stones Walker or Cahill not to make mistakes? Why Smalling is not going is mental he’s one of our best defenders and been much better than Jones the last few seasons (who cannot keep fit either).

Is not a league where you play 38 games. Its an one-month-tournament. If it was a league Spain probably would win by 10 points.

Have you considered the possibility that you guys can win all those NTs in knockout games?

No, we're England.

Who will knock out England?
And so, which round?

First round group matches.
June 18: England v Tunisia

June 24: England v Panama

June 28: England v Belgium

Second Round

Group H

    • Poland
    • Senegal
    • Colombia
    • Japan

If England top their group, they'll play the runners-up of Group H - Colombia are second seeds.

If England finish second in their group, they'll play the winners of Group H - Poland are first seeds.

Quarter-finals

If England top their group and win the second round, they'll play the winners of the game between the Group E toppers and Group F runners-up - probably Brazil.

If England come second in their group and win the second round, they'll play the winners of the game between Group F toppers and Group E runners-up - probably Germany.

Semi finals.

Argentina?
France?
Another team?

Fabinho

Depends who Southgate decides to use in goal - after all it is almost a tradition to have a goalkeeper messing up in a tournament

Poland in the last 16.

v Tunisia 0-0
v Panama 1-0
v Belgium 1-2

v Poland 1-2

I wouldn't actually be all that surprised if England end the group stage with only two points from draws with Tunisia and Panama. I think an awful lot rests on Kane's shoulders, if he can score the goals to push England on a bit further, if not they might struggle. If England can get anything from the Belgium game it will be a bonus.
Southgate is way out of his depth most likely in this environment and I doubt he really knows his players that well. I also think his total snub of Smalling was a bit ridiculous, calling in Nathaniel Chalobah's younger brother to train with the squad shows just how far Mike is out in the cold. The word in the media is Jamaal Lascelles would be next in line for the standy place after Tarkowski's withdrawal if anyone else was called in.
Different situation, but Smalling must feel the way Ferdinand did at Euro 2012, knowing that no matter what or how many defenders were injured, he wouldn't be going under any circumstances. Smalling isn't the best CB in the world or anything like that but he deserves his place.

Poland in the last 16.

v Tunisia 0-0
v Panama 1-0
v Belgium 1-2

v Poland 1-2
Thanks. But they will probably win Tunisia and Panama, 1-0 result, with some silly kinda of a goal, (Karius anybody) only to draw with Belgium, but will end up second, GD. Whole England will be praising them and calling it: "WC winners" only to get disappointed after Poland smashes them.
