England Discussion | Finish 4th

Yeah there's definitely no Irish, N.Irish, Scottish, Welsh United supporters I guess (never mind all over the world).

Nobody is saying that.

But Utd are an English club. So seeing so many posters on here who slag England off constantly can be annoying.

We're constantly told we're shite and irrelevant and yet everyone on here is desperate for us to lose.

You can hate our media if you want, I don't like them either, but it's very frustrating to see so much anti England sentiment. Especially on a forum dedicated to an English football club.
I actually am not anti England, what I didn't liked in the past was the constant dismissal before they faced us and when they lost there was always an excuse by the media must be said, not the fans.

I don't see big reasons for pessimism, if I was a England fan would be more confident to face Colombia than I as a fan having to face Uruguay tbh.

I'm an Englishman. Yet nothing could make me want to sing a song pleading allegiance to some fake monarch, and I have nothing in common with the Carling guzzling, drum bashing lad bible cnuts that make up most of the England match following. I can already picture England success at the World Cup being used as some kind of 'two fingers to the rest of the world' vehicle for Brexiters. It would be insufferable.

What a thoroughly miserable bastard you are.

Away for a Carling. May do you some good.

United is an English based side and that poster goes on slagging off all things English. Well if we are all that bad why is he on a football forum for an English club?

Pickford continues to be dodgy as heck - clearly our biggest liability. I've been saying for months that Pope should be ahead of him.

A dislike of our Media is fair enough of course. In general tho I don't think England fans have had high expectations since 2006 anyway.

If James is out then I think we'll sneak through. Really tough to call Portugal vs Uruguay, penalties looks likely

I don't think anyone actually hates England. Just quite fond of seeing them screw up seeing as the English media/pundits tend to overhype them (Germany defeat in 2010 was a particularly good example).

Means fcuk all to do with my love for United in any case.

I've tipped England to do well in this fecking tournament!

I'm actually more hopeful now. If James is out then we're definitely going to beat Colombia overwhelmingly.

I bet your the life and soul of a party.

Plotting a way to the semis isn't arrogance? How can anybody even look past Columbia?
How do you think Columbians feels as they're told that England would be happier to face them over Japan?
The country is called Colombia.

Nobody thinks Colombia is easier to face than Japan, however after Colombia which looks like a winable but close matchup (50/50 at worst? depending on James) England would face another winable game against Switzerland/Sweden.
Or is it too disrespectful to say that?

I don't know what's so hard to understand about that.

In addition to that the 2nd place finish guaranteed more rest and less travel IIRC.

The self loathing here is impressive.

Despite being pissed off about tonight I hope England can get through to the later rounds. Incredible pressure on them now and will be interesting to see how they perform.

Why is that arrogance? How dare anyone possibly dream of getting past the last 16. Ridiculous.

I think even if James plays they didn't had the chance to rest players, I can see England winning without extra time. Unfortunately your other prediction won't happen, more easily Argentina will upset France than us beating Uruguay.

Colombia are a decent side. James being injured will help us though.

But it is cause of the media. The hype is already pumping if it hasn't been pumped already.

Well I agree there. I heard Jermaine Jenas say he would only be worried about facing Brazil. Because beating Tunisia in the last minute and hammering the worse side in the tournament quantifies us as world beaters now.

I think most England fans know the minute we play a half decent side we are probably out. The media (as usual) are creating a hype that England fans now expect to go far. I think most are just enjoying we have won a couple of games in a major tournament.

There's hype around this Croatia side. Dark horses.

So should everyone hate them?

I bet they aren't talking about their route to the final despite not winning a knockout game for 12 years like some England fans and media are. Croatia have a much better chance of getting to the semi's than England.

Yeah I don't know where this idea that Brazil have been the most impressive side has come from.

Let’s be honest, England should be beating that Colombia team, and easily beating Sweden or Switzerland.

Anything less than the semi finals is a failure for this squad. I can see England beating Spain, but not Croatia who I think might just win the whole thing.

Well I don't watch Croatian TV but maybe they are.

And Croatia's knockout record isn't much better than Englands to be fair.

If you're a supporter of an English team (English or not) and actively want England to do badly, I don't care what your reasons are, I reserve my opinion to think you're a cnut.

Yeah but I didn't just start watching the English national side this year.

Nothing wrong with fans looking ahead. It's not disrespectful, it's just that out of England/Belgium, Colombia, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, Mexico and Brazil, there is 1 clear side that is on a different level to the rest in terms of both history and current player ability. And that's Brazil. So if given the choice, many would rather pick the other. You don't lose intentionally to go on that side, but it's not a big deal if you do.

Anyway, on the actual game... A full strength Colombia would be a much tougher ask, and possibly slight favorites over England as they are more proven IMO. But with no James, England would be considerable favorites. My guess is they'll play him and he'll be half fit, but England will still get the win. But it will be by far the toughest test, because it's still hard to judge both England and Belgium in this group. Tunisia and Panama are both trash so those games didn't show anything other then they can beat the shit teams, while the 3rd game was a dead rubber that says nothing. So that's a disadvantage for England IMO. Perhaps not having the right competitive intensity from the opening 3 games. We'll see though.

Columbia..yep its my go to auto correct :(
Its OK to find yourself in that position but to actively look for it annoys me.
Like I said before, I would place you as favourites over everybody bar Spain, Belgium and Croatia so it's not an underrating England style of rant.
Is it because its England that people can't see it? Many times on here when we have a winnable run of games there's (quite rightly) plenty of fans reminding us to take one game at a time etc etc, don't look past so and so..
I have never seen so much attention paid to the quarter finals over the second round before, and its not a passing piece of analysis either. The whole build up and post match discussion has Brazil mentioned as many times as Colombia

Really? Tell me England's record against Sweden over the last decade or two.

Stepping into the realm of fantasy for a second, if England were to go all the way to the final, three of our four remaining matches would now be in Moscow. Which is not that long a trip from our base.

Rather be miserable than some absolute plum who sits in their living room screaming 'send her victorious' in their 'it's coming home' socks.
