Day 17: France-Argentina, Uruguay-Portugal.

Unbelievable by Mbappe. Absolutely ridiculous by various posters saying, "Messi did nothing". There's nothing, or no one who can carry that Argentina team, or pull a proverbial rabbit out of a hat. That aside, Mbappe proving to be exactly what many suspected he already was. A star.

Messi didn't do enough. You live as a team, you die as a team and he must shoulder his portion of the blame. Unfortunately, pundits and fanboys will give him a free pass.

Mbappe, though.

Well in the French! What a game of football, we've been spoiled.

Pleased for Poggers but tbf that whole France team were on top of their game.

If this is the last time I see Otamendi and Macherano's faces again, it won't be to soon. The can feck right off.

So Messi Player of the Tournament again like 2014?

Last year, the difference in points between PSG and Monaco was lower that between City and United. And the year before that, Monaco actually won the league.

Okay, they only won the league by 13 points, but it's still a one-team league and will stay that way for a while. I realize one could say the same about the PL this season, but I'd argue the gap will narrow down and that even if City dominate, the overall level of the PL is much better.

I just want to see the best players in the PL, although a guy like Mbappe probably wouldn't end up in Liverpool:)

Messi can shove Aguero’s goal up his *** now.
He is the one to blame totay for Argentina knockout

How?

Mbappe, incredible as he is, plays with Pogba, Griezmann, Kante, Umtiti, et al.
Messi plays with Pavard, aged Mascherano, Rojo, Meza, et al.

Tell me, how is Messi supposed to receive the ball in dangerous areas if the players aren't good enough to give him the ball?
Tell me, how is Messi supposed to create for others if those in front of him aren't of the a quality to make quality movement?

What you're expecting is a superman performance where each time he receives the ball he evades two or three markers and literally slaloms between them like Roy of the Rovers.

Has Ronaldo ever scored a world cup knock out stage goal? Can't remember him playing in one apart from when he was very young and put a spot kick (penals after extra time) away vs england.

Now that the excitement is over, Nacho’s was better than Pavard’s. You can’t argue with a double poster.

Great game. Messi should have done more. Still a great player but doesn't move enough.

Mbappe though

If I'm Aguero or Higuian sp I'd be livid not starting.
Higuain has done feck all in clutch mathes, would be delusional if he thought he'd be an automatic starter.

Agree with Aguero. Feel the same for Dybala as well. Don't think he played a single minute this world cup?

what

He might get one more in 2022 (aged 35). If Argentina qualify.

Honestly think he'll retire. He did it when they lost Copa America final in 2016. Don't see him hanging around for 4 and a half years time when Argentina will probably have a transitional generation in that tournament.

Finally Argentina is out

Pity Messi can’t do much

Pogba did well

This France team doesn't do anything for me. Mbappe was outstanding but the team as a whole flatter to deceive again, imo. Thankfully for them they were up against an atrocious Argentina side which they really should be beating anyway; their back five is a joke.

Messi was poor again for me, though. Of course the team as a whole was awful (again) and there's not much he can do really, but he wasn't even in the game. His demeanour and attitude never seem great, either. I get the pressure and frustration, but it's not really good enough from him. He spent way too much time just ambling around, not really in any position in particular. That really doesn't help the teams shape at all. As for the rest of them...fecking shocking. That manager leaves this tournament as an embarrassment, imo.
