Let's all Laugh at England

Reading this thread has certainly taken some of the joy out of our semi-final achievement that is for sure. All a bit of a downer to be honest.

However, I reckon that if England got to the final, and it went to penalties and Rashford stepped up to take the one that would win the Cup, even the most ardent anti-English United fan would want him to put it away :smirk:

See, that's the thing. While I most certainly don't want England to win the world cup, the idea of, say, Jesse Lingard becoming a national hero by volleying home a last minute winner isn't without its upside.

Given the choice though I'd still take a hatrick of Jordan Henderson own goals sending England home.

This really has touched a nerve. I've no need to back up anything It was an exchange between the two of us some time ago that struck me as entirely odd as he clearly is Irish. Maybe he was pissed then also? I really couldn't care less so its no biggie but thought it worth pointing out in response to his pretty vile stereotyping and bigoted reaction to a few people singing their national anthem.

He's apologised so nice one. Might be advised to stay off the sherry for the semis though ;)

Yes you do. If you can’t, you should apologise. Only you haven’t got the wit or the bollox to do either. Despite being asked to on multiple occasions. Which says it all really.

I never apologised to you by the way. I apologised to @Djemba-Djemba for being short with him, because I was a bit pissed. What’s your excuse for making up bizarre shit, then refusing to back down when you’re called out?

You shouldn’t give two fecks about a bunch of saddos on a forum. Look at the streets, what’s happening in the supermarkets. Your workplace will be buzzing tomorrow. The whole country is up for the match on Wednesday. Let the keyboard warriors do their own thing in their mum’s basement.

Cool things we learned in this thread:

1. England is a race
2. Pogue isn't really Irish, he just pretends to be for some reason
3. SAF is definitely a die-hard England fan. Roy Keane is too (probably).

With point one I'll concede that being English is more an ethnic group as opposed to race however this is from the Crown Prosecution Services guidance on racially and religiously aggravated crime;

'Racial group - this means any group of people who are defined by reference to their race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origin'

I'm taking it to extreme but I do genuinely believe there are a number of pond life on the forum who have a deep lying hatred of the English.

IKEA-gate and the amount of times I've read that it's coming home on here got me giddy for the inevitable moment it all comes crashing down.

Those spoiled duvets have really rattled your cage huh.

Don't worry about them. They take the dimmest view possible of everything England does in every instance.

No matter what happens from here we have restored some pride to our national game. We have exorcised many demons from tournaments past and have laid a foundation for our talented young players that are coming through to grow from. We have every reason to be optimistic about the future.

I didn't realise the hate was so strong in our non-English contingent of fans. I mean, why support a football club - Man United in this case - if you harbor some deep-seated hatred toward the country they represent.

This thread is quite an eye-opener.

To be honest, I've seen very little legitimate hatred.

Some people don't like the national anthem, lager louts (fair enough) and stuff like that, but few 'hate' England. Wanting England to lose is not the same thing as hating the country.

 ah well...I tried.....

It was just my attempt to lighten the mood really.....

So yeah. It’s coming home!

Don't have any particularly strong feelings about England winning or not winning either ways, although I'd love it if Lingard or Rashford bangs in a last minute winner in WC Final.

The idea that for us non-English people to have to support England or not root against them on international stages, just because we support Manchester United is proper weird though.

Given the treatment meted out by English fans to Neville brothers and Beckham in the past few World Cups, its okay to not root for England in WC for some non UK fans.

This is an issue I can sympathise with but you’ve got to remember that 90% of the England fan base aren’t united fans and support nothing teams that don’t win anything, therefore rely on England for some form of glory. They like to vent at the quality players we’ve had throughout the year because they’ve been picking up medal after medal for United, yet ‘denying’ England fans the same pleasure.

You’ve also got to be careful not to tar us all with the same brush. I certainly wasn’t trying to lynch Beckham back in the days but I knew plenty of City fans who hated him after it.

Don’t think any non English fan should feel obliged to support England during the World Cup but I’d certainly say you have some personal prejudice if you hate England and want them to lose badly, especially considering we have 4 United players in the squad. At the moment I’m just happy that we’ll have a couple of World Cup winners in the squad next year, as long as Croatia don’t win it!

I'd personally be okay if any team wins it as three of the semi finalists have got United players in their starting XI but I'm mostly rooting for Belgium and Croatia to be honest, just because of the fact that none of them had won a WC before while England and France have.

Behold the master race.

Some serious lack of awareness amongst all this bitching about posters not loving up with England.

Can't be bothered to read through the thread, but anyone looking to laugh is really gonna have to scrape the barrel.

We could get battered by Croatia and it'll still have been a successful tournament, and even more importantly, it's been great fun!

Seriously, all the "it's coming home" memes & jokes have been hilarious (if you take them with the healthy dose of irony intended), and we finally have a team likeable enough to get behind. On top of that, we've been given some truly memorable moments, like Southgate banishing a few shootout demons.

Whatever happens now, I've really enjoyed the ride.

I'm going to be honest here , lads and I dont want you to take it the wrong way. The world cup hasn't brought out the best in you.

You seriously think there's a chance that one of the Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland national sides are more traditionally disliked by the others than England are? I would be surprised if English fans are genuinely that unaware.

Just look at the video of the actual Welsh football team reacting to England's game against Iceland. You think they would have done the same if Iceland had beaten Scotland or Ireland?

So one team celebrating England's demise is representative of the entire UK and Ireland's opinion? Like I said, please present some statistics the show that England is the most hated nation. As another poster has shown, the English population is by far larger than all other countries' in the UK and Ireland. I just cant see English people hating themselves.

What on earth does this have to do with anything?

Nobody is saying that other people from the home nations (or non English Man Utd fans) should want England to win the WC. Everyone is saying that is is pretty funny that you would spend such a large amount of your life following an English football team playing in England with lots of English players and set up by Englishmen, with over 50% of its managers historically being English and then actively wanting that team to fail miserably from the beginning, especially when your own country isn't in the cup. Apparently though, Man Utd basically has no link to England according to some on here.

I'm sure Ferguson wouldn't be sitting at home hoping so much that England get beaten in the WC, especially if Scotland were not there.

This is what I find both hilarious and strange in equal measure.

Some excellent wumming from some though I have to say.
I'm not wumming it looked to me like some posters werent too happy about the same people supporting Utd and not England in the world cup that I just wanted to ask if Fergie didnt want England to win the world cup does he get a pass because of his involvement with Utd ?

I think it's perfectly fine for people to support United and not care a bit about the England team.

The funny part is the weapons on here being bitter about England having any kind of success. But that's fine too, in fact keep it up lads, it's made the wins just that bit more fun ;)

but i dont just not care i actively hate them. im knitting englands demise as we speak

But I never get how anyone can hate their national team.
If it was just made up of southerners I'd get it that the north would say feck off
If it was made of northerners the south would say feck off

But these are your brothers your friends and your countrymen.

Is coming home !

This English guy wants England to lose because of multiracialism...

Arrived at a BBQ yesterday as this game was playing. Not sure when the turning point in history was but it was good to see a group of drunken Scots cheering that second England goal going in and the final whistle. Just goes to show that not everyone is a cnut.

Except me, I hate England. Which means I hate myself, but since I already think I’m a wanker that’s ok.
