He's not entirely wrong about the tree clearing. I'm not sure what the state of logging is in California, however, if its anything like the rest of the West Coast, it's creating a situation where the fireload is becoming overwhelming.

Forest fires are natural, and they are natures way of removing that fireload (dead and dry timber/brush), however, we've also built our communities adjacent to these areas, and so a natural spring cleaning isn't necessarily desirable.

Of course, he isn't talking about responsible selective logging, he's almost certainly talking about unchecked clearcut logging. This is also magnified by the Spruce Budworm and Asian Mountain Pine Beetle which are massacring the forests of North America. Causing entire stands of timber to be dead which is recipe for catastrophe in terms of forest fire.

Responsible, selective logging is actually looking like it is going to be needed going forward, if we don't want thousands of homes to burn down every single fire season. Of course, it will be an uphill battle due to militant environmentalists, who are every bit as bad as militant NRA types when it comes to compromising for common sense.
