Varchester City 18/19 discussion

Impressive ?

They had multiple opportunities to win that game by 4 or 5 and they would have had sterling brought his shooting boots.

I take the point that we won and the character on display to come back like that was amazing, but to describe our performance and tactics as controller, disciplined and impressive is a serious misrepresentation of the facts.

The reason we won that game is because city weren’t ruthless enough on that day to kill the game when they were 2 up and Herrera produced one of the best assists you’ll ever see in your life.

Good result, but that wolves performance yesterday was a better blueprint than us soaking up pressure and conceding two before we start playing.

If you read my post carefully, you would note that the “controlled” performance was a reference to the Wolves yesterday. Not when United came back from two down last year. So your point is actually the same as mine, which is go at City right from the start.

We weren't good yesterday, it was a poor performance from most players. However, the goal they scored was both offside and handball. The only other shot they had on target was a good save from Ederson. We suffered officiating mistakes when we dropped points against Everton early last season, and we got the same yesterday.

There is a massive De Bruyne shaped hole in our team though, and that may cost us long term.

I think you’ve forgotten the disallowed goal they scored on the counter.

You’ve misrepresented how good wolves were yesterday by saying you were poor.

You were poor because wolves were brave in possession and worked damn hard out of it to try stop you playing. They also had more chances to score than you’re making out too... neves should have scored on the edge of the area and Jota could have buried you towards the end too...

Give the promoted team the credit they deserve. They earned that point.

Wolves have got loads of credit and deservedly but we were poor because we missed silly passes even when not being pressed, Mendy, Kompany and Gundogan were horrific for it. Wolves had two good chances and two half chances, we had 5 or 6 good chances and the great save from the Sterling long shot. In the end Wolves had 4 decent shooting opportunities, 2 of which they blazed miles away.

Full credit to them, they worked hard and are a good side, but on another day they are getting called out for going toe to toe and losing 4 or 5-1.

“Full credit ... but...”

Is not giving credit.

Hey I think your post raised an interesting point ......... but I think it’s patronising and condescending towards a well organised side that put up a good fight and brought good tactics.

I said in the thread they earned the point, but there were factors beyond their control they got said point.
They did bring good tactics and played in a positive manner which was cool as we don't face that too often, but like I said had we taken our chances and won 4-1 they'd be getting slaughtered for being naive.

I do believe though that the key to beating City is hounding us when we have the ball when its with whatever defender is stepping forward and Fernandinho before the ball gets to our front 5, not an immediate press but like Wolves did yesterday and Liverpool done well, wait until the fullbacks have pushed up and the ball is in the triangle between the dm and cb's.

Do you think it was a good point for you or two points dropped?

Two dropped, Wolves are a good side and will be comfortably mid table, the reason it feels like 2 dropped, is more the way it happened than the actual result. Still I think good and all as Wolves are United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs will almost all win there.

They're still favourites for me. Their style of play is excellent. And I felt they were a little unlucky against Wolves with the handball and all that. But I suppose they can't complain given their attack didn't really show up. Wolves will be a tough team to visit this season

Just found out that September 1st will mark the ten year anniversary Sheikh up of the club.

It doesn't feel that long, does it?

Nice draws in the CL and League Cup,

CL group will be tricky but we should be topping that quite comfortably and its almost as good as we could have hoped for avoiding Dortmund, Napoli and Roma from Pot 2, along with missing Valenica, Inter and Monaco. Was really expecting us to pull something like City, Dortmund, Monaco and Inter so happy with what we did get.

Oxford in the cup is another that should be simple but we made hard work of lower league opposition last season many time. We can rotate but need the rotated players to be on their game. Our 2nd team now seems to contain Jesus, Sane, Mahrez, Foden, Danilo, Delph, Kompany, Zinchenko and Otamendi so theres zero excuses.

Is this new or the interview from years ago?

Since there is countdown in the top corner for a Clasico, it might be from years ago. First time I am seeing this though. It is fitting to the Sane situation IMO.

Nothing like the Sane situation. Sane was benched last summer as well because he came back unfit as well.

The fact is, if Mendy was fit the whole of last season Sane would have be benched most of last season.

Leroy Sane is too inconsistent. Also against deep blocks he tends to be on the periphery of the game and he can only operate out wide.

Nonsense. Really not sure where this notion is coming from that everybody needs to be as consistent as Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe or Neymar at a young age. He's perfectly fine for a 22 year old.

I don't understand why people use that interview as a stick to Pep, its pretty much an arrogant wanker trying to make out that he ran the dressing room and claim as much glory from that Barca team as possilbe, honestly listening to Eto'o talking himself up makes me wanna punch him and I wasn't even his manager. Guy is an arrogant tool with an ego the size of Barcelona who couldn't handle being rejected. If Pep was so wrong in everything he did, how come he kept on winning when he got shot of this managerial, motivational, world class (this he was) leader of men?

Makes no sense really, every manager in history of the game had a falling out with a great player at some point in their careers. If anything Barcelona should have been more ruthless with him in the summer of 2009 considering his contract was running out in a year, that part swap with Inter has contributed heavily to them not winning the CL in 2010.

So every player that says bad things about Guardiola is doing so because they couldn't handle being rejected? Ibrahimovic has spoken badly against him. So has Hleb, Yaya Toure, Dante, Ribery, Mueller.

Maybe Eto'o just has a problem with Guardiola, the same as the other players I mentioned and not because they "couldn't handle being rejected".

Did I say every player? Don't make stuff up, I said I don't know why THAT interview... And if you watch the whole thing where Eto'o acts like he pretty much ran the team, dressing room, tactics etc.. he just comes across like a jealous ex-girlfriend talking himself up.

I have no doubt Pep is an ego maniac and probably an asshole too, but that Eto'o interview in its entirety shows him up to be a prick and discredits just about everything he says.

Here's the entire thing 11 minutes of Eto'o telling everyone how the world revolves around himself.

That interview has been around for a while and yes, Eto'o is one in a line of great players to give interviews that reflect poorly on Guardiola.

Yet Pep remains the best manager in the world and is universally respected for achieving feats that only managerial greats such as Rijkaard, Louis Enrique, Mancini, Pellegrini and every Bayern manager before and after him were capable of.

I have a question for the resident City fans and hope you can help me out.:)

Do you consider David Silva or Aguero your best ever player? I am interested in your personal opinion and in what you think is the consensus among the majority of City fans.

Shaun Goater remains my favourite player but David Silva is, in my opinion, City's best player of the current era.

David Silva is our greatest ever player. Yaya Toure is our most important ever player. Sergio Aguero is the man who will have the greatest moment that will ever happen to the football club to his name.

Does that clear it up at all?

Eto'o & Ibrahimlvic prefer Jose over Pep - says something about the individualisttic type of football against the team style of football the other tries to offer.

Great name that

Yes thanks:)

Aguero for me, Silva is my fave ever player but the simple fact is Aguero has destroyed the clubs goal scoring record. He also has the clubs defining moment and without it we don't know where we'd be.

Might seem harsh on Merlin as he's the most gifted technically but its Aguero who has been for me our truly greatest player.

You have successfully found the best means to sneaky torture City fans congrats. Trying to pick between these two is impossible. Silva every touch is magic and has been pulling the strings in midfield since he arrived 8 years ago. Aguero just bangs in goals and will forever have that moment. The type of moment that is forever engrained in your memory. Not going to torture myself two club legends not need to nitpick between them.

 I think David Silva is the greater player because of his success with Spain, but had no idea who has been better for City between the two. Seems like the fanbase is split on that point. It‘s interesting because most clubs have one player who the majority of fans consider as their best ever player.

I am too young (just!) to remember Colin Bell in his hey day, a lot of city fans of a certain age consider him to be the best ever.
For me it has to be Silva, Toure in his pomp was magnificent, as was (is) Sergio, however for consistent brilliance Merlin is the best I have seen in a blue shirt.

Vintage Colin Bell was a Rolls-Royce of a player.
His quiet disposition and England's absence from major competitions during his peak years keep him as something of a under the radar genius.
It would at one time seem like sacrilege for Blues of a certain age to put another player ahead of him but "El Mage" has won many over.
Aguero, Yaya and KDB are a short distance behind.

only one King at City and its Wanchope.

This needs a new thread mate.

Interesting reading and pretty damning for the likes of City, West Ham and even Chelsea.

Will leave it to the mods, don’t want to be quoted with the city reinterpretations

New thread with some great BM quotes such as

That's clearly not fecking true.

They would be able to justfiably claim a difference if they picked the worst attended games, but the claimed attendances for the games they are selecting, are clearly wrong.

It's also pretty fecking obvious to anyone, that the swamp is not 96% full. It's not even that on the lower tiers, let alone the upper ones.

That's a deliberate fecking stitch up.

It's not just City though (their figures are horrendous mind).

Good to see United being recognised as giving accurate figures in line with FOI requests and GMP.
