These guys don't get to where they are by taking losses gracefully. And, frankly, if he wasn't pissed, I'd be pissed.
I think the narrative will be about the most exciting Title Race in years - Pep vs. Klopp, and they're both great guys.
If we assume Chelsea won't last the pace. Poch might be the next target for a bit of flak, esp if Harry gets injured or misses a penalty or something.
I knew when we drew Chelsea it would be tough because Klopp was never going to put out our starting XI, neither were Chelsea. At that point it's pretty much the roll of a dice as to who will win. Fair play to Hazard, he is on fire at the moment.
It's not good to go out the cup so early but it's really not bothered me that much. It now means Klopp might be a bit more serious about the FA cup which we haven't always been in the past.
I really think Moreno is only still at the club because he is such good friends with Firmino, I guess that's something that's taken into account when looking at keeping your top players happy, especially after Coutinho left.
Keita looks the real deal to me, he has said himself he has asked for extra time to adjust but his pace, power, passing and touch suggests to me he will be a nailed on starter come mid-season.
The jury is still out of Fabinho but Klopp has always done this, give a player a lot of time to adjust to his system and the teams style of play. He did it with Robertson and he's gone on to become a big player for us. Nothing worse than joining a new club and the fans being on your back within 4 games, especially with our new influx of Egyptian and Middle Eastern social media "fans" since Salah joined who expect 30 goals a season from everyone.

Something occurred to me about Klopp's rebuilding of LFC too.
2 Big Blokes in the centre of defence, a MF that runs around a lot and forwards who are quick and can get past the first opponent, the 3rd guy Firmino can play the pass that puts them in. Very athletic mobile full backs who can put in lovely crosses.
Not exactly complicated is it? Bit surprising a few more teams don't try it, really.
A system based on pressing or breaking & not much in between is probably the clever part.
Still, on the plus side, the best chance of them actually nabbing a trophy went down the toilet last night,

.We don't really play like that anymore.
Most of our aggressive pressing happens when we are already pushed very high up the pitch to retain possession, moreso than breaking from a defensive position.
Klopp is on one-trick pony but his one trick is proving effective at the moment. I still think Liverpool struggle to break down well drilled sides who have tactically prepared for them. I still don't know how effective Liverpool can be long term because if you look at history under JK, they still haven't won anything and always seem to focus on one competition (last season it ended up being the CL). Yeah, I was nearly going to say with the bonus that teams are now a bit scared too, so sitting deep is what they do. Just scared of the goal threat I expect.
LFC might score a few less this time, but they probably won't have to (better defence as well)

The point was that Klopp picked a poor side with Lovren's first game partnering Matip (Spurs 4-1 and Man City 5-0 anyone?) with Moreno yet had to blame the ref. I'm surprised it wasn't the wind this time

He didn't get the team selection wrong. It was the league cup ffs! If you don't rest players there then when do you?
It's no real shock given those players are acutely attuned to what Klopp wants. Something that both Fabinho and Keita need to get to grips with, given we're challenging we can't afford to give them both a learning curve at the same time. If even one or two pressing triggers are off the entire thing breaks down in there.
I do like what I've seen of Keita so far, he just needs to adjust to life in England both on and off the the pitch.
In a crucial CL tie against Real Madrid like Rodgers did of course! Never forget.
This season they've scored an offside goal against WHU, got a soft penalty against Palace and got away with a last minute pen against Spurs. Yet he cries about the awarding of a free kick.
That was probably one of the singular managerial decisions that damaged us the most in the past 5 years. Like taking a baseball bat to everything we stand for as a club.
It was pretty bizarre. I mean, that's what you fought for the previous season - to play European football, and you achieved it, only to rest your best players in your biggest game of said tournament. What was he thinking?!
In hindsight that was a definitive sign that he didn't have what it takes. Nevermind the blow to squad morale that our key players were benched for the biggest game of the season up to then,or how the lack of belief in our ability to to do something against them showed his failings as a manager. A liverpool manager should always have the pride and instinct to believe that of course we can win a game like that. Instead he signalled to Europe that we didn't really have ambitions to compete at the highest level when given the chance, as we were too busy trying to scrape 4th. It was a genuine betrayal of everything we're about and he couldn't see it.
If Woodward had been in charge, he'd have sacked him for damaging the brand.
That added to the hilarity. Like, did he not realise how silly it looked to rest players in a huge European game so that he could use them in the league to try and secure European football again the following season?
Also, you give Ed too much credit! Did you see how long we kept Moyes and van Gaal on for? Do you see us sticking with a past it José?
We actually did something similar against Sevilla in benching Pogba for McTominay who even looked poor for our U23s so it wasn't like we were using a potential first teamer or anything. Wasn't as crazy as Rodgers' stunt, mind, as Pogba had been in poor form, but even an out of form Pogba is always a better option than McTominay.
He SO got the team selection right that he lost the game. He got it wrong.
He should have known not to play Moreno, Matip and Lovren together against Chelsea.

We have nobody else to pick from. VVD, Gomez and Robertson needs to be fresh for the coming games. Plus, if there were injuries to our main 11, I would rather the replacements have had some gametime under their belts. Yeah, we lost the match but the selection at that time is not entirely unjustified.
I'd like to think you will get the nod at left back over Moreno.

Would have meant more if you had a higher post count, but I take it where I can get it.
Moreno is a poor left back but we can't keep playing Robbo or even Milner there for the league cup. We need the latter 2 for the PL and Champions League. To be honest, unless Robertson is injured, I imagine the next games for when Moreno starts will be the final 1 or 2 CL group matches (if we've qualified by then) or the first FA Cup match.

Who should he have played then? It was a glorified friendly. Chelsea played Christensen, Cahill and Emerson.

It wasn't a glorified friendly. It was a cup game and probably Liverpool's best chance at winning a trophy this season.
He rotated the squad. So did Sarri. Doesn't mean, that he didn't want to win the game. It was a very sensible thing to do in the middle of some very hard fixtures.
To be fair I'm glad...if the League Cup was our only trophy this season with a third or fourth place finish, I could imagine people saying something along the lines of "Klopp has sent over £200m and has only won the League Cup in 3 years". One less competition to focus on and I want us to put full focus on the PL.
Of course he wanted to win the game. When you play a friendly you also want to win it. Doesn't mean it's important, though. To me, the difference between winning the league cup and going out in the first round is very miniscule. It's just slightly more prestigious than the Emirates or Audi Cup. The only thing it does is give fringe players the chance to get some game time.

True but we don't have anyone else to put on the pitch. As was mentioned earlier, we need to keep Robertson and Milner fresh for the upcoming fixtures.
As mentioned earlier, he should have used some of the €50 million spent on the almost totally absent Fabinho or the £48m on the unimpressive Keita on a better backup LB. He must have known he has to play Moreno in some games this season if he doesn't get a better LB who literally concedes at least a goal a game he plays (he's that awful).

I know it's hard for you to understand (and maybe however many accounts you have) but for the third time he should have gotten a better backup left back. It's been 3-4 years now Moreno has been there. Stop making excuses.
4th season, no trophies, if he doesn't win a egg cup this year it's should be disastrous, spent huge on what he needed been backed by FSG, got the philosophy of playing attacking football, it's their year as long as they keep there top players fit for most of season, lose 2 or 3 of them for a few weeks at crucial times then you have to use your full squad. Prediction for me 2nd in prem, out of champions league in quarters, F.A cup could win, but his record is bad, .. City's squad is best so can't see anyone other than them getting Prem ..
Saying we shouldn't have bought a player who has the potential to be one of the best in the league to invest in a backup leftback is just silly.

It's amazing how when you have a settled defence liked Lpools, you can easily chuck in a Gomez or and Matip and things still look great.
