Do you think there will be a Deal or No Deal?

Not sure if its worth a seperate thread - though it certainly plays into the bigger brexit picture but has anybody else been keeping up on the latest italian budget and the EU response

https://www.dw.com/en/italy-and-the-eu-clash-over-budget-plan/a-45721849

If anything I think it will make the EU more resolved to not budge an inch on the UK and Brexit for fear of increasing the risk of quitaly (and possibly destabilising the EU and the Euro)

An interesting article. I realise the UK isn't in the eurozone, but as an example of EU thinking maybe it helps explain why Corbyn, McDonnell and the seventies lefties are so anti-EU?

Also this fecking nonsense about ‘a country like Britain’. As if the French, Belgians, Dutch etc weren’t fighters and wouldn’t have done the same as the British did if they’d had the small advantage of being an island nation with a powerful navy in 1939..

Its just completely embarrassing. Puseudo saber rattling and bluster from a pompous cnut. As if this tyoe of talk is going to have any value other than amusing the other side.

Arlene Foster just played the DUP's hand (like nobody knew already) by maintaining the GFA isnt sacrosanct.

Isn't that a massive comment for Ireland, even when if I'm not mistaken she isn't representative?

Unsurprisingly, the Irish Government has come out with the opposite view, which everyone living in the real world knows is the actual case.

To be expected as DUP have been against the agreement from the start. They do not talk for the people of NI
Unfortunately they do, the majority of narrow minded people who keep voting those bastards back in to keep out the big bad wolf Sinn Fein.

I'm so lucky I'm now a citizen. This country is so hostile to immigrants.

Just out of interest is it 100% impossible that in a really close vote the Sinn Fein MP's could actually attend the house of commons if their votes would bring down May?
My gut feel is they wouldn't but could pragmatics ever overcome their objections to sitting in the houses of parliament?

No that would basically undermine their whole reason for existing.

Don't know if people saw Mr Juncker's very recent comments at a public meeting in Germany - I assume this is sabre-rattling, but who knows? The plane issue is ridiculous (all those folk who have already booked their 2019 summer holidays to Spain, Portugal and wherever in Europe) and the quarantine one - well, we don't even have rabies in domestic animals in the UK. We use the pet passport travel scheme all the time on our journeys and it's relatively simple (and safe).

All these things and thousands of others were pointed out before the referendum and since the referendum, everything was dismissed as scaremongering.
The truth is that unless there are agreements on these and many other points, the so-called scaremongering becomes reality.

The way things are going an agreement looks less and less likely as each day passes.

But when Brexiters say out is out and they want no deal, this is what they want out of, even if they don't realise it.

Take back our borders.

PRIME MINISTER UNVEILS BRITAIN’S POST-BREXIT IMMIGRATION PLANS

“The new skills based system will make sure low skilled immigration is brought down and set the UK on the path to reduce immigration to sustainable levels, as we promised. At the same time we are training up British people for the skilled jobs of the future.”

May must be loving all this, she's classed as a Remainer by Brexiters but I've always thought she's even more xenophobic than Farage.

This plan will rule out any hope of a deal being struck.

The part about having only higher skilled immigrants while British people are trained for the skilled jobs for the future.
Firstly why weren't British people trained for skilled jobs beforehand and secondly when the British people are skilled enough (hahaha) do they send all the immigrants who were skilled back home again.

Meanwhile all the fruit and veg will rot.

It's just meaningless soundbites, the news channels hardly even bothered covering it. The only actual announcement there is that EU citizens will now be handled the same as non-eu...well no shit.

No announcement for additional border forces just means nothing will change.

It's one of the most basic flaws of human nature to have an irrational fear of what's different. Everyone blames immigration for their problems in the west. Having said that I was in China years ago and found that some Chinese people disliked African people because Chinese construction companies were hiring cheaper labour from countries like Ghana, instead of paying more to hire Chinese workers.

The reality is that countries like the US and the UK are littered with incompetent and/or hate-filled politicians and people who aren't correctly educated about right and wrong. It's ridiculous how many people think they're better that others because of the colour of their skin or their nationality when they have literally no control over either of them.

Racism and xenophobia aren't traits that people are born with, they learn it from others.

In fairness northern SF have historically been more than a bit dodgy themselves. I know SDLP voters who used to vote strategically such was the hatred between those 2 parties.

I think they are. It's not so long ago, in evolutionary times, that we left the savannah. Those people from the next cave who look a little different and grunt a little different and wear a slightly different animal skin were an actual threat back then, whether through direct violence or competition.

No chance

Serious tough one and I don’t really know the answer. As a supporter I wouldn’t like to see them abandon their principles for a one off situation and couldn’t see them doing it tbh.

Gerry Adams wrote a piece in The Guardian earlier this year addressing this very question - the answer, unsurprisingly, was no.

They’re both dodgy as fook. That’s why we’ve had problems dragging on. Both shit stirring bitter as fook

Yeah but one party is embroiled in six scandals last time I looked with one costing hundreds of millions of pounds. This false equivalency stuff is getting tiresome. Yes SF have a past and are capable of being political cnuts too but DUP are a law onto themselves.

The DUP are a political terrorist group atm.

Even their faces are terrifying..

Brexit doesn't appear often on French News these days but this was actually on the news today and the EU's ears have pricked up. No extra border controls announced because they've got to train them first.
