England vs USA & Croatia | Its coming home

England are on the same level as Croatia, Italy or Portugal, not on the same level as Germany or Spain in theory. These last two teams will probably look much better by the time the Euros come around.

Germany is in transition. Already you see Hummels and Boateng is a car crash for Bayern but I think they're still first choice for Germany? Neuer also been dodgy since he came back from injury but all 3 likely to start in 2020. I think Germany will properly be back in 2022 with a fresh squad and manager. Next euros feels to me like Spain just thinking 2014 was a fluke and then they saw in 2016 it wasn't.

Spain looked good first few games under Luis Enrique but still defensive flaws against pace.

France as we've seen in WC are so difficult to beat in KO games with how they line up and last chance for many of the Belgium players really so expecting another good tournament for them.

It all depends on the field of course. Portugal last time ended up in the kinder half of the draw so who knows which big team will get that this time.

Stones was very good today. Was impressed by England although you could see Croatia were fatigued.

So do group winners qualify for the euros staright away? Or do they have to go through another separate set of qualifying rounds?

Group winners are guaranteed a playoff spot. So even if you feck up during Euros qualification you have that safety net.

England are very one dimensional. They have tons of pace so, in theory, can be dangerous at counters but the decision making of the likes of Rashford, Sterling, and Walker gets in the way of that. Ultimately, it is a team with a decent defensive structure that excels at set pieces. That can only take you so far.

Really good 1st half followed by a flat half hour after the break before a fantastic comeback.
Have to say that John Stones is a proper footballer, so easy on the eye. ( only in an England shirt obviously and forgetting the bambi on ice moment when they scored )

Deserved by you guys. Shame about that Brozović chance and conceded goals. Left a bit longer post in international week thread. :)

This is the bit where I get really confused! Do all the winners in group A section play B or C and D in the play off section? What happens if in the main euro draw 4 of them get in the same group.

Good posts by you mate. Fancy a bit of Serbia in the next edition?;)

They got to the World Cup semi, then beat Spain in Spain, and then come from behind to beat Croatia and top the group. What more do you want from them?

Lovely little week in Portugal to watch the finals next June. Very considerate of France, England and Belgium to not bid to host the games.

The semi-finals are in 7 months?!

Would be logical to play them in March but euro qualifiers are starting then so can only fit them in June.

Be interesting to see how many players tired from a long club season call off otherwise it's another summer without much of a break. Think these fixtures will be on same time as the Copa America.

England are an excellent passing team.

Each tier will play amongst themselves with the winner taking a spot at the euros. However, if that team is already qualified as is likely for tier A certainly, then that spot passes to the highest ranked team not qualified

It's pretty well explained here

Rashfords decision making was decent today though?

Walkers wasn't bad either... Thought Barkley was our biggest culprit for poor decisions

It’s funny how England think they are on level terms with Croatia. Minnow bashers getting a little confident here!

Yeah it's hilarious isn't it?

There's not much between England and Croatia, I'm not sure how anyone can argue against that.

Ah yeah I get it. I thought next summer was just playing for the trophy and winners getting a euros spot with then play offs taking place at a later date but obviously it's the same thing!

Qualifying groups will be a bit odd to say the least as some of the teams will only have played 2-3 games and already know they've qualified.

But this is an official UEFA competition. The Emirates Cup isn't.
Arguing with English people about the importance of new competitions, as history teaches us, is a lesson in stupidity. See the first edition of the World Cup and the European Cup/Champions League. Whatever became of those comps without the English buying into the first edition?!

The 'English' are taking this seriously, though.

Only winner is going on Euro. I think

interesting to see how many of the current England squad will be around in seven months. Southgate likes to keep a close group but some players really need to up their club form.

More interesting is if England win will all players involved get a medal,or just the players picked for the final?
