CL W Champions League Group H

Manchester United 1:0 Young Boys

Post-match discussion

Why are we still being subjected to this terrible state of play? People saying nothing will change if we sack the manager, nothing will change with the current manager either. Same boring play that lacks direction and ideas and what was with Mourinhos reaction at the end? Surely a touchline ban will happen now so he will probably miss the knockout home game

Prepared for Sevilla.2 next round. Fortunate to get through from an underperforming group and will shortly be found out.

It's all about me! Mourinho just said that he has had 14 seasons in the Champions League and 14 times they have qualified for the knock out stages.

what a load of shite, it's like watching Groundhog Day, try the same thing a hundred times eventually something has to happen. why do we not have a right winger, so much space and yet hardly anyone goes up there, constantly down the left where Shaw and Martial seemed to be at a complete loss. can't wait for us to be spanked by a decent team.

I must be conditioned to expect bad performances, as I thought it was a decent performance tonight. Was it really that bad?

Finishing could have been a lot better, but we generally moved the ball with more pace and had some good attempts. Suppose you half to look at it in context that it was a weakened Young Boys team and that much of the same problems still persist (team selections, attacking patterns)

I'm very clear in my mind that Jose should still get removed ASAP. Some evidence for myself was that I didn't even react when Fellani scored - I must be disengaged from this current side and I can't be the only one

A very weird feeling at the end. Can’t remember a goal being celebrated in a manner of just sheer relief, by both players and fans alike, rather than joy. Everyone is feeling the pressure and it is affecting all aspects of our game. I said at half time that we just need to grind out clean sheets and we’ll get goals to get wins. From that confidence will come.

I thought Smalling and Jones both had good games. Jones did more in two minutes at right back than Valencia all match. Smalling’s passing and ability with the ball was strong tonight. Reminded me of Carrick a bit. Maybe they’re working together?

Worst players were Martial, who was read like a book all night and very weak against any resistance, Lingard, who was extremely quiet, and Matic, who simply continues to uninspire. How’s he getting 90 every match? Valencia, I don’t even consider an option any longer and have no expectations of him.

Not a great performance, but a win is all that mattered. A lot can change before the knockout rounds, so it is good that we have booked our place. Let’s keep grinding.

Jose being weirdly arsey in the post match and having a stupid stat about himself ready. Rio and Scholes rightly making a point about it too.
Like they say, it doesn’t fecking matter when we look so shite right now.

Sounds like he was just being his normal self.

Didn't leave my seat even for the goal. No enthusiasm left, although I did shout for Fellaini....who I'm now actually convinced,is our best outfield player....and no,I'm not being sarcastic and yes,its terrifying.

He's the only one who consistently does his job, regardless of how we feel about 'his job'.

Rashford,as I keep saying, is a headless chicken who will be playing as a squad player for West Ham, Wolves or Palace by 2021.

I hate that I can't enjoy a last minute winner as much anymore. You just know if we keep Mourinho, we will get fecked in the Round of 16 again.

Listened to 20 seconds on 5 live before turning off due to Liverpool supporter Alan Green and boring ABU Chris Sutton accompanied by fecking drums in the crowd again. What about security?

I can no longer work up any enthusiasm to watch or listen to this rubbish week after week and I’ve supported the club for six decades.

Rio just absolutely ripped into Jose, very emotional after hearing that interview. You could see he's genuinely hurting.

On plus side,Fred looked alright i thought. There us a player in there, nowhere near a top class one,
but a good and reliable option for a big team. That's all,DDGs wonder save aside.

So with that...
1/2: Dortmund/Atletico
1. Barca 2. Inter
1/2: Napoli/Liverpool/PSG
1: Porto 2. Galatasaray/Schalke
1. Bayern 2. Ajax
1. City 2. Lyon/Shakhtar
1. Madrid 2. Roma
1. Juventus 2. United

Easy loss for us whoever we get drawn with in the next round. I'd probably put us around the same level as Ajax, Schalke or Galatasaray as the worst sides that are going to make it through to the next round, though not sure if we'd even beat those teams over 2 legs. Would be shocked if we make it past the round of 16.

Worst lineup in years. By far. Win is a only positive thing after this.
I hope i will never ever see midfield with Matic and Fellaini at the same time again. Same goes for attack.

That was just brutal. Fellaini should not have started at all in the first place. No brain or vision or skill.

Matic was hopeless as well.

Christ that was bad.
But Fellaini scored the winner.,

It’s good to be through, it’s bad that we have to carry on like this.

Because there isn’t one.
I didn’t say we would’ve been more “successful” under Moyes, but he did have an eye for a bergain (Stones, Coleman, Cahill) and by all reports Kroos was very close, until LvG vetoed it, Kroos would’ve been a sensational transfer for us.
Moyes’ dithering would’ve prevented us from spending millions on absolute dross.
And yes, Mata and Fellaini are still here, 5 years after Moyes.
Strange, really strange points. He had an eye for a bargain so he'd build something at United?
And Kroos was close. Sure he was.
And let me get this right, his dithering prevented us from buying dross. So if he didn't dither he would buy quality.

Matic needs a break. ALWAYS TOO SLOW IN PASSING
Attacks have to be coached. Martial and Rashford looked incoherent but lively.
Practice finishing. Mou atmosphere is more unforgiving than England for Rashford I think.
Jones and Smalling may still have some life left.
Smalling's passing though was pleasantly good.
Fred is a good player, needs a quicker midfielder alongside him.
Lukaku apart from one turn, actually looked a bit better.
Lingard moved well
De Gea top save.

Worst united performance since last week...and the week before that.

I mean, come on, this is soul destroying stuff.

Watching the highlights (I didn't watch the game) I don't get what the moaning is all about. If finishing was any good it would've been a comfortable victory.

We were actually pretty decent in the first half, and could have gone in 2-3 up if not for Rashford fluffing every chance he got. The second half was atrocious though as they ran out of ideas. I cant even blame Jose tonight, we seemed pretty well set up but we just keep making simple errors and have no killer instinct in the last third.

The thing that stands out is how desperately we need a leader in the centre of the park, we're crying out for someone to put there foot on the ball and look up.

The moments were few.
The whole match was very dis-jointed and devoid of ideas in attack in terms of general play. Everyone seemed lost in the final 3rd like
"What do we do now?"
