In the latest episode of the United Hour Podcast, Nik (@Rood) is joined by CEO Duncan Drasdo and Financial Director Andy Green from the Manchester United Supporters Trust for a special episode on all things behind the scenes at Old Trafford including a brief history of MUST and their aims today, views on INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe so far, and the Old Trafford regeneration.

Like we were discussing the other day, we'd have documentaries and movies made, books written about how a manager who failed at Cardiff, came back to his home and covered a 19 point gap at the top, winning all 34 games he was in charge of.
We, believers, would be interviewed 30 years later when they make a big budget documentary on this title win of ours, and we'd be talking with tears in our eyes, about how we scored 5 past every team, and 6 past City and 8 past Pool. We'd be talking about how we demolished a PSG side with Mbappe, Cavani and Neymar and how Buffon just stood between the goalposts and applauded us. We'd be talking about how we beat RM and then Barca en route to final before we demolished Juve, leaving CR7 in tears, at Wanda Metropolitan.

Yes... if he won 3 league in a row then yes he can be our zidane.
If things do start to go sour and some fans start turning on Ole (although we are all entitled to our opinion) I will be very, very disappointed
. Ole is a legend helping us out our time of need. People expecting Ole to perform brilliant things (Although I think he will do well) should just enjoy each game, see how the results go and just take things one game at a time and see how it goes.
Not if we never give him the job cos we're chasing big name managers. Thats basically my fear regarding United; that we won't take the leap of faith like Barca or Real to give the job to Ole. They're reaping the rewards of a risky appointment that could have blown up in their faces whereas we only go for proven names that end up blowing in our faces anyways.

I said nothing about experience. Zidane was with the Madrid setup for several years before becoming manager. He was first involved with scouting then managing the B-team. This meant he was already integrated into the setup and so knew what most of the players were about. He was preparing to manage the first team.
Ole was a casual watcher of this team until the board called him up, he was not prepared to manage these players and so will need time to understand the ins and outs. Considering that he has 5 months to work, it is basically not possible to have success like Zidane. He'll be spending most of this time learning about the squad.
Well we've given him a try. Let's see where we are at the end of the season.

I agree. Sometimes its simply finding the right fit for the setup.
The players may really take to his coaching style. And play with freedom not afforded under Jose. He will fit in well with the financial aspect making Woody and the board happy.

It's a no-lose situation for Ole, if he gets the club winning consistently again and has the team playing in the traditional United way then he would have performed nothing short of a miracle, should the opposite occur; the team continue on the downward spiral set by his predecessor, well, it was to be expected. Ole will be spared any criticism, rather the blame will be placed firmly at the feet of the owners and the players if it goes south.
That is optimistic. I think we got a chance, but still there are much bigger favorites out there.

Following last saturday’s result against Cardiff expectation levels on here have gone off the Richter scale! I prefer to have a more balanced realistic view.

You had one task...get the scoreline right, and failed even at that.
They can make risky appointments. They have two competitors. Real Madrid have had a bad season yet in champions league spots. We had a bad season and like 10 points behind.
The Madrid and Barca teams usually filled with world class squads whilst ours needs rebuilding.
The big name approach is working for Cuty and Liverpool. It’s always worked for Chelsea most of the time. The difference is we hired a few duds and that will happen.
My main point was that Solskjær was a part of the staff at United. Ha was a part of SAFs coaching staff, and then managed the reserves team, including a certain Paul Pogba, from 2008 to 2010. In addition to that has more experience as a manager. He also played for the club for 11 years. He knows the club.
None of that is all that relevant to winning multiple CLs. Knowing the club doesn't mean you don't need to learn about the squad, to adapt his system to the personell, to adapt to the league etc.
Zidane's success had nothing to do with 'knowing the club'. He had worked with many of these players as part of the back room staff. He also inherited a squad stacked with world class players like Marcelo, Ramos, Kroos, Modric, Bale, Ronaldo.
Him knowing the club leading to success is just romanticism and fantasy. There is so much more to it that knowing the club is only just important for fans.
That's where the experience form managing 400 club games and experiencing both relegation and trophies kicks in. Him knowing the club means he won't be shocked of the clubs sheer size like Moyes did, and that he knows what's demanded of him and the players.
One thing they do have in common is that few thought Zidane would succeed as well. Writing Solskjær off is just as stupid as saying he will have the same success as Zidane or Guardiola.
He obviously won't win three CL on the trot, but he still might be a good manager for the club.
I'm not the one writing Ole off, that's the club that did it.
I have said that I would have liked Ole to be given a two year contract so he can have a good go. But he's been hired as interim manager. The club have not backed him as a proper manager, and so the chances of him winning the big competitions is slim to none.
What's the rush in awarding Ole a full-time contract when the board can use the next 6 months to not only assess his performance in the role but look for more suitable candidates in the event that it doesn't work out for him - namely Poch.
Ole seems to be perfectly content in a part-time role.

I'm happy to just sit back and see how it all pans out without getting too worked up about what ifs.
That said, you do address one point that's been bugging me for days with people going on about Ole failing at Cardiff... anyone reckon Zidane would have done better? Seriously?
I'll tell you what sort would do a better job with the shite squad they had: Big Sam, Pulis, that lot. Does it mean we want that sort of manager? Don't think so.
I’ll take Solskjaer without any trophies for next 3 years if we keep playing attacking football and promoting youth- rather then Zidane and 3 CL trophies. Short term glory vs Manchester United’s traditions is a easy choise for me. No way Zidane would be here for the long term.
I wonder how many who are extolling the virtues of Zidane would have been behind Real's appointment of him back then.
