Kalidou Koulibaly

Despite the new contract, this isn't going away. Of course it could all still be speculation, but maybe closing the other thread was a bit premature?
Nah. I'm so confident that he isn't moving this window that if he does, the caf can vote on a new tagline for me.

Why would France Football know about a Senegalese footballer moving from an Italian club to an English one? Plus, it mentions a deal would come close to 100M - but the contract he signed in summer had a 100M clause which was removed when he signed another contract in December so if anything a deal would be more expensive than stick to around the same price.

He could be our Van Dijk, I have faith in that.

The rest of our team is pretty strong, but CB is a clear weakness.

Having a man mountain that's actually good at defending and very quick, what more can you ask? Oh yeah, he's left footed and plays on the left!

I'd sell Rojo, Jones and get this guy in straight away. It's huge money but he's the standout candidate.

"Man mountain" isn't quite accurate - he's 1.87m (same height as Lindelof/Bailly). He's also right-footed (although does play as a LCB).

Pogba will seal the deal, sooner or later.

Agree with everything except that Koulibaly isn't left footed. He does play lcb though.

Newspapers are speculating around the racism story, that he's upset and so on. It's not a miracle that rumors intensified after the incident.

He's a beast of a CB, but I just don't see us spending 80-100 mil on him with a temp manager in charge.

We can also use the classic excuse : he's too good of an option for us to consider. :D

Fair enough, he is right footed, but very 2 footed. He's taller than Lindelof and Bailly 100%

He didn't sign anything in December, but I agree overall. His last extension was in September.

There was an interview with Koulibaly to Sky Italia in late December where he said he signed a new one and wasn't going anywhere.

Did he definitely sign a new contract?

Yes I know but what I was saying is that the extension was in September, even if the interview was in December.

Koulibaly was born in France and played for the French youth teams before opting to represent Senegal. He began his professional career at Metz too in 2010.

I can see why FF would have information regarding Koulibaly to be fair...

From Wiki:

"As Koulibaly was born in France to Senegalese parents, he was eligible to represent both nations at international level, and initially played for the France national under-20 football team. He later made his senior debut with Senegal in 2015. "

According to Transfermarkt he has a contract untill 30.06.2023. That's very long. He'll cost a fortune for sure. But we knew that already. He'll easily cost more than VVD did.

Because he is french.

I said to myself i wouldn't - but this is the one transfer this January that i want to get all muppety about.

Kalidou it? No he can't.

Would want to have him rather than couple of 30+ cb like er did before..

He reminds me a lot of Thuram in that he is very agile, ridiculously quick and powerful. I think he'd be the perfect foil for Lindelof.

I'm sort of on the De Ligt train now.

I don't doubt we are interested but there really is nothing concrete so far. Be a huge deal to bring him here money wise. Call me sceptical but I doubt them Glazer's will go that big. It will mean offloading someone, which should happen but that realistically happen?

We couldn't give Darmian away to someone who wanted him in the Summer. Jose was a problem no doubt, we are in need of a CB though. The Glazers didn't invest in the summer properly, nothing as changed in the deeper problems at the club. Chelsea and arsenal are looking to invest this window, we are behind them in the league. Pay the money now and get this top 4 and it will save money in the long run. Koulibaly would make a huge difference.

Koulibaly will still be at Napoli at the end of this month, I am fairly sure.

If there was any truth to this, Darmian would go the other way. We rejected an offer from Napoli in the summer, for whatever strange reason.

€100m could buy Toby and De Ligt.

I had been thinking the same, but De Ligt will probably have his pick of clubs and the more I see of Alderweireld this season, the more I'm convinced he is physically compromised - he just doesn't look quite right.

All those injuries take their toll in the end. He's a good player but we cannot afford to buy another expensive dud. I'd rather we stop skimping and go for Koulibaly/De Ligt.

Pogba seems pretty friendly with Koulibaly, and i'm sure with the recent abuse he won't be sad to leave Italy.

Does De Ligt play on the left too?

If so then it should be either him or koulibaly we go for.

Agreed, people keep throwing his name out because he's experienced and will have a £25M buyout clause in the summer, but he's looked Schweinsteigered this season to me, and the qualities he does have don't fit with Lindelof so Smalling would still be starting as one of the CB's has to be good in the air.

He's one of the most comfortably 2 footed players around from what I've seen.
