Post-match discussion

There wasn't anyone on the bench who could have helped in the second half when Spurs were doing their onslaught. Pereira and Fred certainly didn't instill any confidence with their performances vs Reading last week.

I'll probably get slated but we could have used Fellaini that last 10 minutes.

First game I've genuinely look forward to in years and they didn't disappoint.

We played some nice football and showed some real promise with the changes Ole is make.

However, our defending was rather desperate at times and we obviously rode our luck a lot, but we all knew Spurs were the better team. So, against such a side, away, with such a short amount of time for Ole to work with the players, I think it was a very decent effort.

We could have been 10-0 down at half time, shame you missed it- even though Spurs didn't have a single shot on target. Lloris didn't touch the ball in the other part you missed in the second half. Weird.

Your sarcasm is hilarious.

Where was Dalot playing when he came on?

Comitted performance from everyone and that's all we can ask for. Well done OGS.

Very good game to watch. Thought Spurs were excellent second half, however we showed a resolve and a togetherness that bodes well for the future. De Gea was absolutely sensational today.

What an outstanding win. The teamwork, effort, positive football and excitement is finally back!

With regards to Ole’s tactics of playing Lingard central with Martial and Rashford wider, he was understandably coy about the reasoning saying he simply though it would be effective in this match.

What do you guys think motivated the switch from previous line ups with Rashford central?

Spurs fullbacks push up and Rashford can exploit that making runs in behind. If people remember the Old Trafford game against Liverpool last year, TAA was pushing up and it allowed Rashford in behind and he scored twice.

One of the reasons I’m a little circumspect about getting top 4, we have a good first 11 but very little beyond and are trying to handle three competitions.

I'm afraid that's a bit too optimistic. It was a terrible defensive performance in the second half and only DDG and poor finishing stopped Spurs from scoring 4-5 goals. I doubt that Spurs have had 11 shots on target in one half all season.

Are you kidding me? Most of the shots were half chances. The 11 shots also include the Ericcson long effort, the poor shot from Lamela etc. Yes we were too deep and spurs could have scored but so could Utd. Lloris made two excellent saves. We can improve a lot but we will definitely concede chances against a top footballing team like Spurs

Brilliant game of football! It was a great display from United and thought Spurs were really good too, just that De Gea was at his best. We were lucky in the 2nd half when Spurs pushed but we could have got a second as well.

Biggest win of Oles tenure so far, hope we can catch the teams ahead!

Second half was poor tbh.

De Gea was really good but still spurs should have scored.

We just caved in completely. But still in a one off tough away game a back to the wall performance is fine I guess as we are still imoproving.

He's actually not a bad outlet if we're not chasing a goal, if we just need to get it up the pitch to reset then he'd be pretty useful to help hold it up.

Nervy second half, but still a great win.
Next week we have Brighton at home, while Arsenal and Chelsea play against each other
Chance to get even closer
Yes Chelsea are really the target now. A loss for them or a draw would be ideal.

This has to give the board confidence to invest in ole (including spending on players this window)

Spurs didn't really have much better chances against Everton where they scored 6. They scored 3 goals from fewer chances at OT. DDG was great but their finishing was off today. The first 60 min were excellent though.

Alli had two great chances, Kane had one or two and Llorente had one

That win will do us a world of good even though we allowed them to dominate in second half. All players worked hard for each other and when everyone failed there was de gea. We can definitely catch up with Chelsea and Spurs if we carry forward this momentum. Cant wait for the next match.

Would we have lost by quite a lot without DdG? Feels that way?

Some fun stats to consider after todays victory.

Before the game, Manchester United had only won 4 out of the last 17 away Premier League games(!)

Tottenham had won the last 3 home games against Manchester United. And 8 of the 9 last matches between these teams have been won by the home team. (We all know when that 1 outlier happened). Now United holds the second outlier.

What we have to remember is that our team was trying to play a high intensity pressure game with a team who have been playing like that for 4 years. You can see by about the 70 minute the team was dead on its feet so you have to expect us to drop off whereas spurs are used to that intensity. We can't go from one of the least running teams into one of the highest without having huge drops later in the game.

I am as ecstatic as anyone with the win and with Ole but this post is a clear definition of double standards. Second half was a park the bus performance that Jose would be proud of and would probably be lambasted for by many in this forum.
First off, the bus is gone, it was Jose's bus and he brought it with him. Today we attacked and looked like a Manchester United team, we were put under severe pressure by a very good Spurs side, but thanks to our first half performance of counter attacking play we had the lead. And our goalkeeper had an amazing 2nd half. If we had parked any kind of bus in that match we would surely have come away with 0 points just like we did last season, when the bus had a flat tyre after a few minutes.

Ole have had 4 days to train this team. Let that sink in.

Spurs had 19 chances and 11 hit on goal. This was a very nice win but our defending was very poor both in midfield and defence apart from DDG. Our defence and midfield are too poor in the defensive as we got cut open time and time again fairly easily by a decent spurs team. This need addressed in the summer.

Not sure if anyone’s mentioned it, and can’t believe I’m saying it...but Mike Dean was fecking superb today.

They really weren't. We rode our luck today big time.

Agree. Spurs and United are the two clubs in England with greatest tradition of attacking football.Today's game was worthy of that heritage: great game, great players, great entertainment.

You would think we were playing relegation fodder and that United sides in the past were never under the cosh. Spurs are a good side but they didn't score, like other sides were kept out in the past. Those sides rode their luck as well. Sometimes you have to. Wish people would stop looking for reasons to diss out efforts today.
