Premier League Gameweek 24 midweek fixtures (29th - 30th Jan 2019)

But how on earth do you compete with a side that is likely to win the league with 100-105 points?

Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say Liverpool were too good rather than City losing it.

Because I genuinely believe that City have a better squad (by a decent margin) and a better first team than Liverpool and I think they and their manager should be hungry enough to see off all challengers. That game against Newcastle wouldn't have happened last year. I'm not taking anything away from pool and I think they've really learnt to grind out wins like champions do but City should be mentally stronger and should be relishing this challenge.

Also, I don't think Liverpool will get 100 points. I'd be very shocked if they don't drop points somewhere along the way.

City have done their bit and took 4 points off Liverpool this year. It's not their fault the rest haven't.

You keep saying it, but theres no way we are going to amass a 3 digit points total. Think we'll get a mid 90s total. Hopefully its enough. to get us over the line.

If Liverpool win the league this year, they definitely can win it next year as I said earlier. I don't think this is a one off.

Somebody has to retain the title eventually. Liverpool as I said earlier will be motivated by Utd's title record, they feel that's naturally theirs and we're only just borrowing it.

I thought when Utd won the league in 07 that would be it for a while and Chelsea with all their money would rebound the year after.

But we were motivated further by the titles record which we tied in 09' and eventually surpassed in 11'.
Sure. But there's just as great a chance (probably greater) that City will win it right back.

Hopefully we'll also be in the mix next year. If not challenging then hovering around the top teams at least

Why not?

There are 15 games left, a 13W-1D-1L would get you 100. 13W-2D-0L a 101 points, both very possible scenario's. Only if Liverpool found themselves deep in the CL could that change, but if they got knocked out by Bayern then the pathway is their for them to amass 3 digits. They don't have to play City again.

excellent results so far.

My only complaint is that it wasn't Rafa who took the penalty.

Not sure we have that kind of form in us esp. if we take CL seriously as well. Still mantain we'll finish with mid 90s point haul. But the way City are going, the title might be decided by end of february.

Who the feck is playing at the back?

Seems like Henderson or Wijnaldum is playing at RB.

Can just imagine Leicester scoring from a swift counter-attack on Liverpool's right side there. Seems like Liverpool could really do with Clyne at the moment.

Why are we playing Henderson at Rb over the man who plays RB for Brazil  baffling decision.

Hell why are we leaving Fabinho out period he’s been excellent for a while now.

Not the right personnel for three at the back so it's definitely Hendo at right back. Vardy should be all over that! Hendo can provide some good whipped crosses in though to create panic in the Fox-Box.

My prediction is 4-4.

Should be Fabinho at RB. Not feeling confident.

Shaqiri, Mane, Firmino & Salah starting together usually brings good results though.

Keita needs to put in a decent performance. He's due.

Very confused as to why Llorente is starting when Son is available.

Surely you have to go Son up top with Lucas/Lamela wide and Eriksen behind? Llorente is an hindrance to our attacking play more than anything else.

Oh well, in Poch we trust and I hope the big man proves me wrong, but it's been painful watching him on the ball.

Can Son play as the main striker?

I'm sure he will be introduced at some point anyway.

Son is starting though. Or am I seeing things?

Is tonight the night when the boom-bust cycle comes into effect?

Will the scousers cry?

I'm going with yes on both fronts because why not.

Yeah, that is what we've done in the past when Kane has been injured and it has worked pretty well. Went on a run last season with Kane out and beat Chelsea away 3-1.

He's on the pitch, that's the weird thing. I'd understand if he was on the bench due to travel etc, but if he's fit enough to start you'd expect him to lead the line and drop Llorente to the bench.

If we win tonight to go 7 points clear then we really will have the bit between our teeth. Hopefully City drop points to allow us to go for Europe as well.

Oh,I didn't know he was in the starting 11. Then yeah it is a little strange.

But he's always been more effective coming off the right flank has he not?

Just going to state the obvious that I hope Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs lose tonight

I think Spurs will drop points. They're by no means guaranteed top 4 for me.
