Is Ole a good appointment?

Waiting to see what excuses or goalpost-shifting the Poch fans get up to....
 
Mourinho used to call Sir Alex "the Boss" and for all Mourinho's faults I dont think you can accuse him of not having a massive ego. Fergie is the gaffer.
 
I like that Ole has given us that ‘us v them’ mentality - in a positive way - in that he always says we’re Manchester United, we’re doing this, we’re doing that.

Going by the recent articles, and many written since he’s taken charge to be fair, he really has transformed the whole feeling around the whole club, inside and out. I’ve no doubt that he’ll get the job full time but the board will stick to their original plan of announcing it in the summer. I don’t think they want to distract Ole with any contract talks from the job at hand, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s had some assurances about next season given the job he’s done.

My only concern about the club moving forward would be the DoF appointment. I wouldn’t want us to just employ someone who likes a similar style to Ole, I’d like it to be someone in the same mould - humble, working to the same goal, an affinity with the club - who genuinely wants the best for the club. Ole clearly has a preferred style of play that excites the fans and I hope that the two could form a great working relationship.

I think the point is that spurs are in the title race despite spending a pittance compared us, pool and man city. Even with their best players out they are still progressing and getting results in the pl and cl. Im still on the ole train, but obviously poch can get his team performing without having s blank check that pep and mourinho insist on to be competetive

As important as Ole is, just as important is Phelan.
He gives that experienced view. I think he certainly has a hand in improving our defence.

Currently we have the complete staffing in place.
With a few players coming in, we will be ready to take on the League and Europe.

We should make a deal with everyone in the current staff. This is a really good setup.

De Gea has taken a liking to him, had his best season ever under him last season so I can understand why.

I think everyone likes him. He is really happy when we score. I think he makes a good fit for our club. Looks like a good guy and must be very good with DDG.

I wonder what he'll do, he was working as an athletic director at some university in Australia and they put out a statement suggesting he is committed to returning to them. If his job at United is tied to Ole or not is fascinating to see.

contracts can be bought out. Doubt it will be a crucial as a manager's job.
Sure he will want to be Manchester United Assistant Manager though.

Silvino Louro was Mourinho's goalkeeping coach. Emilio was the understudy, and now the main guy.

Emilio Alvarez was De Gea's former goalkeeping coach, he was brought to please him.

At this point I'm probably 60-40 in favour of Poch.

Huge credit to Ole because only a month or so ago I was 100% Poch. Come the end of the season I'll probably end up favouring Ole, but I'd be happy with either, tbh.
 
Since we're acknowledging Phelan's role in Ole's success so far, perhaps same should be done for Pochettino's assistant as well.

We are not going to hire Poch. That sail has gone. Ole will be the permanent manager. You dont change a winning team.

Poch capsized today and confirms he is a top 4 manager and not a real candidate for ever winning the prem.
Ole is the real deal. He will get the job and even win the prem next year.

Arsenal was an amazing result. I really didn't have anything negative to say about it. Lukaku was man of the match! The problem is that our last 2 managers, who have been widely critized on here, both won at Arsenal in almost exactly the same way. So forgive me if remain cautious at this stage.

Then came 3 more league games: a 2-2 fight-back against Burnely, a tight, 1-0 win against Leicester, and a comfortable 3-0 win against Swansea. The Burnley result showed a lot of character, and it was great to see us come back from a losing position for the first time under Ole. But many forgot we had the EXACT SAME result against Burnley at home last season: 2-0 down at half time, before coming back to rescue a point. So there wasn't really anything new here. The Leicester and Fulham performances were very impressive: the former a very difficult game where we produced a professional performance, the latter a comfortable victory where we probably could have scored more.

The PSG game was our first defeat. A weakened team, but still a quality one. And we actually started really well; if Martial and Lingard had stayed on the pitch I genuinely believe we could have won that game. However when we lost them, Ole didn't change our approach, even though we all could see we didn't have the players to play the same game anymore. And we got beaten. It may sound strange, but I was excited after that game. I have said from the start I want to see how Ole responds to a bad result, and I was excited to see whether we would bounce back. And boy, did we. An emphatic performance against Chelsea, who despite their poor form, started the game really well. But it's also worth remembering that their fans turned on them in the second half, and the atmosphere became toxic for them to play in. We defended well, and Chelsea's performance level dipped.

Notice throughout this, I've only actually criticised Ole once; for the PSG game. In all the other cases, I haven't criticised him at all. Your suggestion that people say "X result doesn't count because of reason Y" is a gross mischaracterisation of most people's comments, which can better be stated as "X was a great result, but we should also remember Y". Looking at results without their proper context is irrational, and you shouldn't criticise those who take a measured and balanced approach to their analysis of our performances.

All this sounds very logical and reasonable. Problem is - it downplays our results and performances.

You need to be on top of your own game to take advantage of other teams weaknesses/ off field issues. Ole has done that. You think Chelsea atmosphere would have been toxic if they scored first?

Anyway - I'm enjoying United (for the first time after SAF) being in the news for the right reasons. No more boardroom issues, toxic conferences, football heritage, philosophy (TM), underdogs etc. etc.

Coupled with attacking - fast paced - one touch football. :drool:
