I'm hyping because I've watched him for 2 years and he I believe he's an outstanding player. I rarely hype young players but this lad is different.

It sounds like you don't even watch football, because that's not what wide forwards in a 4-3-3 do ffs. Are Martial, Rashford, Sterling, Son, Mane, Salah, B.Silva, Hazard, Neymar, Mbappe, Messi, etc. etc. running down the wing whipping crosses in?
Needless to say that Ole disagrees with you since the two games he came on, he played as right forward.
You're just getting stubborn over this for no apparent reason. Starting off as a right forward is a great way to work your way into the team and build experience and no one was ever harmed by that. Including Rashford. If he develops well and becomes dependable, I'm sure he'll also get chances to play centrally.
Let's get him some real minutes in the first team. He's shown he can handle the pace and get a few passes going, now its time for him to show he can do something meaningful.
By no means did he do something extraordinary yesterday. However, while Rashford and to a lesser extent Martial were poor, Greenwood wasn’t poor, he was Ok.
Yeah, the grand total of 675 minutes played for the first team this season was enough for expert Mr. @SteveW to estimate if a 23 year old is a very good player or not.
I just watched his academy goals and now I'm very interested to see him as part of a front three with Martial and Rashford. The later would be constantly stretching the defence as a 9, while Mason and Martial would work in the half spaces that open up on both flanks, and all can fluidly interchange to create nightmares for defenders.
True but to be fair those players are expected to take on responsibility during these matches and make something happen. Therefore when that doesn't work out, they look poor. Also their skills and qualities are known and studied and teams are prepared for them. Rarely does any team leave Martial on a 1-on-1 with a defender, if they can help it, cause they know he'll likely skin them.

Agreed that he didn't do anything extraordinary and that the hype might be putting too much pressure on him.
But a lot of it comes from how good he has looked and because of his natural talent. While yesterday was nothing extraordinary as you rightly pointed out IMO you can see he is ready. He was assured with his touch and passing and to me he looked like he belonged out there. That maybe my bias but thats how I saw it.
Here's hoping to see Martial/Marcus/Mason soon. No pressure.

I had never seen the guy before yesterday (no time vs. PSG). Very impressed and I'd definitely try him RW, Martial LW and Rashford centreforward in one of the next few games.
Hardly did aything to be fair. I only saw enough of him yesterday to get at all excited, not Wednesday.

I've watched him for years through the academy reserves and on loan. I wouldn't give an opinion if I hadnt watched enough of him to stand by it.
Looks like the lad has a quick and bright football mind coupled with good technique. Once he settles in, he will improve others too, as he likes to be involved and get others involved, fantastic prospect.
You're predicting that not only will he get a permanent spot in the first team but that he'll be the best player - above people who are already years ahead developmentally, like Rashford, Pogba and Martial - within a year or two. Despite the numerous talented young players who've fallen by the wayside.
I'm not doubting his talent but he's a long, long way away from those guys and has proved very little so far. He's not even completed half an hour of first team football and you're comparing him to World Cup winners? I like your optimism but it has no foundation in reality.

I agree that it might sound insane to someone who hasn't watched much of the lad play. It's a huge prediction to make. But I hope your dismissal is based on having watched the player and not just cos he's young and you dont know much about him.
I've been swept along with the hype for a good 12-18 months and have seen plenty of him. He looks very gifted but making the step up to the first team will be a challenge for him - as it is with 99% of talented young players. The ones you've listed are among the elite-level outliers. The most we should realistically expect of him for now is a few good cameos against the 'lesser' sides. Anything else is just hyperbole.

To be fair to @SteveW Mason is the most talented player at youth team level I can remember. He's done more than Ravel/Pogba did at the same age, although different style of players.
He seems grounded and motivated, it would be a travesty if he doesn't make it. I'm willing to bet like Steve that in 4 years he will be first name on the team sheet.
I don't actually think he's much more talented than Morrison (if at all) but he seems very level-headed, which sets them apart.
In all honesty, I hope you're both right, obviously. It's a bold claim - although your '4 years' seems more realistic than '1 -2 years', which is what I took exception to. If he's a first team regular in 1 year he'll have done more than most kids - expecting him to be the star man in just over 12 months, from where he is right now, is pure fantasy.

I get that. I just dont expect him to have a figuring it out period like most young players. His touch and link up play are unusually polished for someone so young. He already understands football. He's also growing and filling out so quickly the physical side likely won't be a big issue.

Saw him for the first time and thought his touches looked ridiculously smooth. Even when a player does nothing it's easy to spot natural talent from their passing and dribbling style. He ran at players with close control rather than kick and run. His passes and layoffs had a natural precision to them

Ignoring talent, what is the closest example there is? From the youtube highlights (haven't seen him in youth games) he looks like Sterling or Hazard to me. But everyone here compares him to more orthodox forwards like RvP, Kane, Rashford.

He doesn't look like Kane or Rashford either. He's not type of a player who relies on physical or physical even though he can run fast, he's more of RVP/Rivado hybrid type who is skillful and creative, his use of feint is nice, balance, and close ball control.
Rivado? Greenwood has a similar style of play as RVP, especially RVP's Arsenal career.
I think it’s a cross between rvp in terms of his movement and gait and ronaldo (Brazillian) with how deadly he is in front of goal.

As others have mentioned, some youth players just look like they have 'it' when playing for the first team and Mason is one of them! The likes of Sancho, Rooney, Ronaldo had that X factor that sets them apart from 99.99% of other youth players! Was actually surprised at how physically ready he looks too!
He didn't need to do anything spectacular in that game. Sometimes it's the subtle things that you look for in a performance. How the player moves off the ball. How quick and smooth his interplay is. The type of decisions he makes. None of the above will stand out, per se, but they all culminate in terms of how effective he'll be in the long run.

I haven’t been as excited about a youth prospect since maybe Pogba. He’s everything our current forwards aren’t. Loads of technical ability and composure. While I think our central striking options need improving, I’m actually wary of signing any striker who might block Greenwood’s way to the first team. We may have our own Harry Kane in the ranks already.
I would love to see what he with regular football which he won't get here. I'd say we loan him out to a championship team where he can get regular football. I strongly believe if he can hack it out there, he would definitely make it to the first team here.
He looks calm on the pitch, and it also looks like he can do a job at right wing, even if it's not his best position, which could be pretty useful for us right now.
Fully agree with this.
There is no iron rule that stops young strikers from honing their skills by playing in wide positions during their formative years in the senior team.
