The only thing I agree with you there is that Romero shat the bed for the second goal. Who goes for a save like that on the near post? Comical.

Anyway, you have completely disregarded the fact that Martial, Jesse, Pogba, Herrera and Matic all looked a step out of rhythm. They've all not played much football this month and looked like it.
The tactics were fine. Ole did nothing wrong.
 
We were never expected to get in the CL spots, so that shouldn't be a deciding factor. But if the performances drop off and we start to look hopeless, it raises questions, obviously.
 
I don’t think Ole’s used to utilizing a squad. It’s a concern. Does he have any experience doing so? Obviously it’s easy to say now, but in hindsight Pereira and McTominay should’ve started tonight. Martial, Lingard, Matic and Herrera all coming back from injury was just too much against a good Wolves side.

We'd be more silly to judge whether or not ole is capable of the job after ten matches, with another mans squad.
Barring a ridiculous run of bad form (which won't happen) we should appoint Ole irrespective of what happens.
 
When Ole was appointed I said this was the pre-season for 2019/2020.

He changed the training regime and the way we played.
It was not a coincidence we had so many injuries in the match against Liverpool.
In the last few matches we have players who are not injured being tired.
Players coming back from injury not playing to their potential.

He is without doubt the man for the job.
We will add 3 or 4 players in the summer and we will be in good shape.

3 tough matches in a row after the break.

We will be prepared.

It doesn’t matter if we finish top 4. If he were here for full season we could use that as a measure and I am sure there would be no conversation anyway as we would get into top 4 easily.

Nah it was terrible but we had equally terrible games under all previous three managers. Actually we had games just as bad under Fergie as well, plenty of.
 
We make changes after going goal down in almost every match we've conceded first . That is not pleasing to look at . Lingard had no rights to play 70 mins. He should've been out by half time . These kind of decisions worry me

I want Ole to get the job, but I'm not sure you're right about this team getting top 4 easily under Ole. This team needs quality addition if we're to coast into the top 4, let alone challenge for the title.

Exactly. The fact we’ve even got anywhere near 4th and in the cup competitions is because of ole. Now sour idiots are moaning because we’ve had a few losses after an awful run of games, with crazy injuries.

Yes the game could have been better today but you blame the players on that. That wasn’t the norm were used to.

Not talking about this season. This year if we don’t have that terrible run under Jose we would be 5-6 points above Chelsea and Arsenal by now.
 
Here's what some eejits on here fail to see. That fact that we are even talking about the possibility of top 4 is crazy. I'm not sure what you guys expect from Ole. United were 11 big freaking points off top 4 and now just 2 points off 3rd. In the Quarters of the CL. Mou wouldn't have even done half of what ole did. This season was already written off by December. I don't care what you say. It's nothing short of a miracle that united are where they are. Plus looking at our squad now, it's amazingly thin. We have no real back up for Pogba, Herrera, Lukaku, Lingard, Rashford, Martial who we were begging to come back fast because He is our ONLY true winger. So at this point it's not fair to judge him. Give him the summer to build an actual squad and then say whatever.

Why?

We were 11 points behind Chelsea, 13 behind Tottenham and 8 behind Arsenal when Ole took over. Unless you believe he would have done as terribly as Jose who got 26 points in almost half a season then there’s really no reason to believe we would not be firmly in top 4 right now.

We had 26 points from 17 games and were on course for 58-point league season. We now have 58 points with 8 games to spare.

I think it's hard to just apply what he's done since he's come to a season starting with him as the permanent manager. He produced an incredible effect on the players and I agree with whoever said that we've over-performed for a while. I don't think our team as it is is good enough for a serious title challenge, and easily qualifying for the top 4 implies a title challenge.

No slight on Ole. Just think we lacked quality (also in terms of characters) for years, and we still do.

Fred definitely should have started over Herrera, baffling decision.
 
I love Olé, hope he wins every game left 10-0 and gets the job.

But I do think we’d be right to hold off until May
 
Not sure why he didn’t play Fred. Had his best performance vs PSG yet doesn’t start the next two games. Need to start giving him a chance.
 
I think Ole is trying to give as much game time to his first choice players coming back from injury.
Herrera, Matic, Lindgard and Martial.
I'm glad Fred has shown great improvement.
We will need all our players for the remaining matches.

And people slated me when I just mentioned some shades of Owen Hargreaves there. :rolleyes: We surely don't want another case with a sick note/injury all year getting salary like a player who contributes week-in week-out, right?

Yeah what did McTominay and Fred do to deserve just shelving soon as the first choice midfield were fit again, after all they may have been fit but sure as hell weren't match sharp and should have been eased back into the team

Usually I'd agree but playing a returning Herrera over a fresh Fred was a mistake imo. He played well last week and he adds a bit of forward thrust that was badly needed.
Herrera and Matic is too samey, Fred brings something different. He definitely deserved to come on when it was apparent things were not happening.
 
Ole has done a terrific job but it has to be said that our peformances have gradually been dipping. It's no big shakes given the fact that we are challenging for the top 4 and CL quarters is a big deal in itself.

But I've always said that the quality of football is my first and foremost parameter to judge our manager by. And that is dipping and has been for quite some games. We need to start playing cohesive football. There's only so much you can do though grit and passion. If we want to challenge the best teams our football has to match theirs.

Felt the best we played under Ole was the first few games.
 
I think the magics wearing off. But inevitably we were going to enter a bad patch and this is probably it.

I would have called you mad had you told me we would have a chance at finishing third pre Ole
 
It was a combination of our players being too tired and some coming back from injuries, and Ole getting outwitted tactically. I have faith in Ole's credentials as a league manager, I think he will do well if given the permanent job. But he does seem a bit naive in cup competitions, PSG not withstanding. Wolves had the perfect game-plan to nullify us and he couldn't do anything.

This is a situation that every manager finds himself in no matter what the team. It is up to Ole to reverse this slump. The actual defeat doesn't matter, but the way we played and lost is worrying. Let's see what he does.

In a way, I am glad this blip has occurred prior to the international break and in the FA Cup. Though a trophy is very important, I am prioritizing a top 4 finish over the FA Cup for this season as I feel we need to be in the CL, and better to lose in the FA Cup than suffer another league defeat I suppose.
 
Ole has enjoyed a prolonged new manager bounce, it'll be interesting to see how he recovers from this dip. Even Arsenal went on an unbeaten run at the beginning of the season under Emery and are only now finding their feet again after their subsequent dip in form. This will be a good audition for the main role if OGS manages to get things working again.

We beat Arsenal and Chelsea. Liverpool and Spurs exited the competition earlier than us so I don't think that makes Ole a poor cup manager.

This break might be the best thing for Ole himself. Have a few days with the family to recharge his batteries. United is a stressful job. Also it is a couple of weeks for the players who are injured or coming back to injury to pick up their fitness levels.

We did, and that's why I attributed our defeat partly to the injuries and exhaustion.

However, Arsenal and Chelsea played to our strengths and couldn't capitalize on our weaknesses. Ole has a plan A in the cups, but he seems unable to mix things up when the going gets tough. I would be quite happy to be proven wrong though.

Both Klopp and Poch bottle in the cups, agreed. I'm not making comparisons here. Many top level managers are also caught out in the cups, which is why I don't find this greatly concerning.
 
Tbf there's some concept that passed my mind and it was kinda worrying. I don't think Ole made much wrong yesterday apart from the late subs.

But thinking about it, is anyone else worried he might have the same "my favorites should always play" problem as LVG and Jose?

Scott was playing pretty well and doing great against Pool, and Palace and PSG. Matic is back and immediately displaced him from the lineup from the first game. Fred was finally showing some decent quality the last 2 games. Herrera is back and immediately displaced him form the lineup.

I mena it's kinda worrying. Scott and Fred were playing well and you have 2 players coming back from injury. It would have been more logical to introduce them gradually rather than displacing the already playing well players and introduce them immediately. It's something Mourinho would have done and he would have been slaughtered for let's be honest.

Also Rashford and Lingard seem to always start whenever they are available in any position and he thinks about subbing them off pretty late in the games when they are having an off day.

I don't know if this is a bad thing or not, but if this concept is really right and he has his favorites who should as well, he needs to throw this thing out of his mind. Our squad really doesn't deserve to have any favorites tbh. They are all inconsistent as hell.

Based on his rather short time being our manager, the midfield three of Herrera, Matic and Pogba is our best midfield. We wanted to win that game so We went with the best midfield possible.

I don't think it's about favourites at all. Picking Matic and Herrera was a no brainer, any other sane managers would do the same. If He went with another players and lost, people would say "He's trying to be smart even though his best midfield was available". But I'm sure He'll learn from this, sometimes players lose their rhythm after an injury.

Also, every managers have favourite players.

Scott was playing great. There was no reason to throw him out immediately with Matic back from injury. He should have introduced Matic gradually and let Scott keep getting minutes. Same as Fred. We know Matic and Herrera are better than Scott and Fred, but you shouldn't displace in form players for players returning from injuries.

The squad doesn't deserve to have favorites because there's no one who puts consistent performance. They are all inconsistent as hell so you should keep things rotating and keep the inform players playing imo.
