Presumably he was invited to offend Corbyn so May could blame Labour for the talks breaking down when she only wanted to discuss her own deal.

I don't actually disagree with his sentiment, I don't see what business Chuka has attending a meeting for House of Commons party leaders; TIG isn't a party. But how is Corbyn walking out of the meeting providing effective leadership for his own party? He's not going to get another opportunity.

How does Corbyn walking out help matters though? I don't really understand why Umuna was there, as That'sHernandez points out TIG aren't even a party yet, but he's played in to May's hands and actually contributed nothing helpful.

Presumably that wasn't the Corbyn that turned up for the meeting, the one who said we should activate Article 50 the day after the referendum was there in his place.

Of course it was a serious meeting. The only person who didn't take it seriously is Jeremy Corbyn. Brexit is a decision that is going to affect the country for the next 30 years at least; Jeremy might not be around long enough to see the totality of the damage it causes but the rest of us will, if he can't swallow his pride to try and do what's best for the country, he shouldn't be the leader of the opposition.

He didn't call the referendum. He didn't lead the country into a series of negotiations that were "let's spend 2 years arguing over what the Tories want, then go to the EU to get it at the last minute", he's not the one holding parliament to random for a dead deal. But yeah, let's insult and blame him.

No, I agree with you. He should have done his job as prime minister for the past two years. Clearly he's the one who's messed up and let his reliance on the DUP and ERG trip him up here.The buck stops with as leader of the country it seems.

Not blaming it on him, I never said that, not sure where you got that. But he has done is though is a big fat nothing, just sits back and let things unfold.

No he should have done his job as opposition leader. How May, the worst PM in living memory ,looks competent compared to him is astounding. He must have a special gift to look this useless. And I'm not talking about this incident.

What's he done in the last two years to offer meaningful opposition against the government? If he had done anything that captured the public's interest, he'd have won last year's general election but no, he's still neck and neck in polls with the worst government in this century, lead by the worst PM in this century.
 
Corbyn was an idiot to turn up in the first place but even more so to leave.

Nobody can make that claim with a straight face. It's not Corbyn's job to fix the Tory mess until he's in number 10.
 
Corbyn is a waste man for sure, but this on that bitch T May. The meeting sounds like it wasn't genuine...
